The Quadratic rank transmutation map proposed for introducing skewness and flexibility into probability models with a single parameter known as the transmuted parameter has been used by several authors and is proven to be useful. This article uses this method to add flexibility to the Lindley-Exponential distribution which results to a new continuous distribution called “transmuted Lindley-Exponential distribution”. This paper presents the definition, validation, properties, application and estimation of unknown parameters of the transmuted Lindley-Exponential distribution using the method of maximum likelihood estimation. The new distribution has been applied to a real life dataset on the survival times (in days) of 72 guinea pigs and the result gives good evidence that the transmuted Lindley-Exponential distribution is better than the Lindley-Exponential distribution, Exponential distribution and Lindley distribution based on the dataset used.

This paper proposes a Lomax-inverse exponential distribution as an improvement on the inverse exponential distribution in the form of Lomax-inverse Exponential using the Lomax generator (Lomax-G family) with two extra parameters to generalize any continuous distribution (CDF). The probability density function (PDF) and cumulative distribution function (CDF) of the Lomax-inverse exponential distribution are defined. Some basic properties of the new distribution are derived and extensively studied. The unknown parameters estimation of the distribution is done by method of maximum likelihood estimation. Three real-life datasets are used to assess the performance of the proposed probability distribution in comparison with some other generalizations of Lomax distribution. It is observed that Lomax-inverse exponential distribution is more robust than the competing distributions, inverse exponential and Lomax distributions. This is an evident that the Lomax generator is a good probability model.

The article presents an extension of the Gompertz-Makeham distribution using the Lomax generator of probability distributions. This generalization of the Gompertz-Makeham distribution provides a more skewed and flexible compound model called Lomax Gompertz-Makeham distribution. The paper derives and discusses some Mathematical and Statistical properties of the new distribution. The unknown parameters of the new model are estimated via the method of maximum likelihood estimation. In conclusion, the new distribution is applied to two real life datasets together with two other related models to check its flexibility or performance and the results indicate that the proposed extension is more flexible compared to the other two distributions considered in the paper based on the two datasets used.

This article proposed a new distribution referred to as the transmuted Exponential Lomax distribution as an extension of the popular Lomax distribution in the form of Exponential Lomax by using the Quadratic rank transmutation map proposed and studied in earlier research. Using the transmutation map, we defined the probability density function (PDF) and cumulative distribution function (CDF) of the transmuted Exponential Lomax distribution. Some properties of the new distribution were extensively studied after derivation. The estimation of the distribution’s parameters was also done using the method of maximum likelihood estimation. The performance of the proposed probability distribution was checked in comparison with some other generalizations of Lomax distribution using three real-life data sets. The results obtained indicated that TELD performs better than the other distributions comprising power Lomax, Exponential-Lomax, and the Lomax distributions.

Developing new compound distributions which are more flexible than the existing distributions have become the new trend in distribution theory. In this present study, the Lomax distribution was extended using the Gompertz family of distribution, its resulting densities and statistical properties were carefully derived, and the method of maximum likelihood estimation was proposed in estimating the model parameters. A simulation study to assess the performance of the parameters of Gompertz Lomax distribution was provided and an application to real life data was provided to assess the potentials of the newly derived distribution. Excerpt from the analysis indicates that the Gompertz Lomax distribution performed better than the Beta Lomax distribution, Weibull Lomax distribution, and Kumaraswamy Lomax distribution.

This article proposed a new distribution referred to as the transmuted odd generalized exponential-exponential distribution (TOGEED) as an extension of the popular odd generalized exponential- exponential distribution by using the Quadratic rank transmutation map (QRTM) proposed and studied by [1]. Using the transmutation map, we defined the probability density function (pdf) and cumulative distribution function (cdf) of the transmuted odd generalized Exponential- Exponential distribution. Some properties of the new distribution were extensively studied after derivation. The estimation of the distribution’s parameters was also done using the method of maximum likelihood estimation. The performance of the proposed probability distribution was checked in comparison with some other generalizations of Exponential distribution using a real life dataset.

This article develops an extension of the Rayleigh distribution with two parameters and greater flexibility which is an improvement over Lindley distribution, Rayleigh distribution and other generalizations of the Rayleigh distribution. The new model is known as “odd Lindley-Rayleigh Distribution”. The definitions of its probability density function and cumulative distribution function using the odd Lindley-G family of distributions are provided. Some properties of the new distribution are also derived and studied in this article with applications and discussions. The estimation of the unknown parameters of the proposed distribution is also carried out using the method of maximum likelihood. The performance of the proposed probability distribution is compared to some other generalizations of the Rayleigh distribution using three simulated datasets and a real life dataset. The results obtained are compared using the values of some information criteria evaluated with the parameter estimates of the fitted distributions based on the four datasets and it is revealed that the proposed distribution outperforms all the other fitted distributions. This performance has shown that the odd Lindley-G family of distribution is an adequate generator of probability models and that the odd Linley-Rayleigh distribution is a very flexible distribution for fitting different kinds of datasets better than the other generalizations of the Rayleigh distribution considered in this study.

In this article, the Quadratic rank transmutation map proposed and studied by Shaw and Buckley [1] is used to construct and study a new distribution called the transmuted Lomax-Exponential distribution (TLED) as an extension of the Lomax-Exponential distribution recently proposed by Ieren and Kuhe [2]. Using the transmutation map, we defined the probability density function and cumulative distribution function of the transmuted Lomax-Exponential distribution. Some properties of the new distribution such as moments, moment generating function, characteristics function, quantile function, survival function, hazard function and order statistics are also studied. The estimation of the distributions’ parameters has been done using the method of maximum likelihood estimation. The performance of the proposed probability distribution is being tested in comparison with some other generalizations of Exponential distribution using a real life dataset. The results obtained show that the TLED performs better than the other probability distributions.

In this work, a new family of distributions, which extends the Beta transmuted family, was obtained, called the Modified Beta Transmuted Family of distribution. This derived family has the Beta Family of Distribution and the Transmuted family of distribution as subfamilies. The Modified beta transmuted frechet, modified beta transmuted exponential, modified beta transmuted gompertz and modified beta transmuted lindley were obtained as special cases. The analytical expressions were studied for some statistical properties of the derived family of distribution which includes the moments, moments generating function and order statistics. The estimates of the parameters of the family were obtained using the maximum likelihood estimation method. Using the exponential distribution as a baseline for the family distribution, the resulting distribution (modified beta transmuted exponential distribution) was studied and its properties. The modified beta transmuted exponential distribution was applied to a real life time data to assess its flexibility in which the results shows a better fit when compared to some competitive models.

With the purpose of understanding differing shapes of sales curve (unimodal and bimodal) this paper discusses a naive way for viewing the diffusion process for consumer durables. In this paper, a step functional model involving two-step Weibull distribution with four unknown parameters is characterized wherein the shape of the density function of the models depends upon the shape and scale parameter of Weibull distribution. Empirical analysis on real life sales datasets indicates that the Weibull step function model is more flexible and fits better than the other models.

As the Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are widely implemented in various fields recent years, the quality of WSNs has been increasingly concerned. WSNs can usually be divided into sub-nets, which assumed to work or fail independently. Through the failure data of those sub-nets, the additive NHPP model for reliability evaluation is composed, and then the maximum likelihood estimation is applied to estimate the unknown parameters in the model. Finally, the simulation shows that the additive NHPP model is better than general NHPP model under certain circumstances.
