The quality of water from surface and ground water sources in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State was studied to determine their suitability or otherwise for drinking and domestic purposes. Nine (9) samples, three (3) each from streams, dug wells and boreholes were randomly collected, during the dry season, in the months of October and November, 2016. The samples were analysed, and the values compared with WHO and NAFDAC standards to ascertain their compliance. The results of the analysis revealed that the physico-chemical parameters studied and concentrations of heavy metals determined, falls within the maximum permissible limits of WHO and NAFDAC standards for drinking water. However, the water samples were predominantly alkaline (pH 6.30 ± 0.10 to 7.00 ± 0.10), (6.70 ± 0.20 to 7.30 ± 0.20), and (7.60 ±0.20 to 8.20 ± 0.10), for boreholes, dug wells and streams respectively. The heavy metals concentrations were determined using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometric method. The suitability of water for domestic and drinking purposes indicates that water samples were within the standards prescribed for potable waters.

Research has been conducted to determine the quality of shallow groundwater (dug-wells and shallow bore-wells) and the local communities opinions around the landfill Suwung. The method of determining the station was done by purposive sampling, where the station sampling was determined by selecting a place which was expected to represent the whole area.Water sampling of dug-wells was conducted by using a water sampler and the shallow bore-wells using a 2-liter bottle. Data was analyzed by descriptive comparative referenceto class I water quality of the Bali Governor Regulation No.8 of 2007. The public opinion data was obtained by using aquesioner filled by respondents who have and use wells and shallow bore wells for their daily needsand it was analyzed by using frequency distribution tables.The results showed that the quality of shallow groundwater (dug-wells and shallow bore-wells) did not meet water quality standards in accordance with the rules of the class defined in the Governor of Bali Regulation No. 8 of 2007. The water pollution index (PI) of dug-wells at a distance of 1-400 meters was in hearily polluted category, while water fromshallow bore-wells drilled at a distance of 1-200 meters was in the category of hearily polluted and at a distance of 201-400 meters was in the category of medium polluted.There was an increasing range of groundwater quality deterioration in 1997, 2008 and 2014. In 1997, contaminated shallow groundwater has occured at a distance of 80 meters, while in 2008, the pollution has occurred up to a distance of 375 meters and in the year of 2014 the contamination occurred from a distance of 1 meter to 400 meters. The average of score Pollution Index (PI) of Water wells in the year of 2008 amounted to 14.55, while in 2014 up to 15.44. It is estimated that the water quality of dug-wells and bore-wells will meet the quality standards in accordance with the value of the pollution index at a distance of over 5000 meters and 750 meters of the Suwung landfill waste.Most of the respondents who live in the vicinity Suwung landfill waste tend to give an opinion that the shallow groundwater (dug-wells and shallow bore-wells) has decreased quality as drinking water. Approximately 75% of respondents thought that the well water in their environment has been reduced in quality.

Sungai Kaliyasa mengalami penurunan kualitas dan diduga mempengaruhi kualitas air sumur gali. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengkaji: 1) kualitas air sumur gali, parameter fisika, kimia, dan mikrobiologi dibandingkan dengan Permenkes RI No.416/Menkes/Per/IX/1990, 2) perilaku masyarakat, dan 3) hubungan perilaku masyarakat dengan kualitas air sumur gali. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan semua air sumur gali tidak berbau, TDS, mangan, dan pH memenuhi baku mutu, sedangkan warna, besi, klorida, dan total coliform tidak memenuhi baku mutu. Perilaku masyarakat secara umum tidak baik. Perilaku masyarakat secara signifikan berhubungan dengan kualitas air sumur gali di sekitar Sungai Kaliyasa. Hal yang dapat disarankan yaitu: 1) masyarakat membuat IPAL, 2) pemerintah dan masyarakat dapat merubah perilaku masyarakat. Kata Kunci: Kualitas air, sumur gali, perilaku masyarakat, Sungai Kaliyasa. Water quality of Kaliyasa River has decreased and suspected to affect water quality dug well.  Research’s aim review: 1) water quality dug wells, physics, chemical, and microbiology parameters compared with Permenkes RI No.416/Menkes/Per/IX/1990, 2) society behavior, and 3) societies behavioural relationship with water quality dug well. Observational result showed that all water quality dug well are odorless, TDS, manganese, and pH accomplished the quality standard. While the color, iron, chloride, and total coliform parameters were not accomplish the quality standard. Society’s behaviour commonly was inauspicious.  Society behaviour significantly associated with water quality dug well around Kaliyasa River. Suggestions: 1) society makes WWTP, 2) government and society can change society behaviour.

Pasir Regency (Tanah Grogot) has coastal areas which is potential economically. To support the development of the area the local government is planning the development of proper and efficient plan to overcome the water  problem of a coastal area. The plan could be implemented by conducting geophysical research and analysis of water quality of existing water resources. New Zealanders place great value on the quality of their freshwater rivers, streams and lakes for recreation, conservation and food gathering. But over the last 25 years they have become increasingly concerned at the deterioration in water quality, the loss of swimming holes and fishing spots, and the impact of pollution on native and valued introduced species and their habitat. The issue has deeply divided the community and become more and more acrimonious. Recreational and conservation groups blame industrial agriculture for much of the decline, and accuse central and local government of turning a blind eye to the problem and failing to protect the environment. Scientists have added their voices to the debate, but big agriculture and its lobby groups have responded aggressively, denying the problem exists, attacking their accusers and warning government against tackling the problem with tighter controls. Public frustration at the political paralysis and inaction has seen water quality become New Zealanders’ biggest single concern. The issue is now firmly established on the political agenda and one any political party wanting to govern the country ignores at its peril.
