Abstract We study the impacts of matter field Kähler metric on physical Yukawa couplings in string compactifications. Since the Kähler metric is non-trivial in general, the kinetic mixing of matter fields opens a new avenue for realizing a hierarchical structure of physical Yukawa couplings, even when holomorphic Yukawa couplings have the trivial structure. The hierarchical Yukawa couplings are demonstrated by couplings of pure untwisted modes on toroidal orbifolds and their resolutions in the context of heterotic string theory with standard embedding. Also, we study the hierarchical couplings among untwisted and twisted modes on resolved orbifolds.

AbstractIn this paper, we analyze the relevance of the generalized Kronheimer construction for the gauge/gravity correspondence. We begin with the general structure of D3-brane solutions of type IIB supergravity on smooth manifolds $$Y^\Gamma $$ Y Γ that are supposed to be the crepant resolution of quotient singularities $$\mathbb {C}^3/\Gamma $$ C 3 / Γ with $$\Gamma $$ Γ a finite subgroup of SU(3). We emphasize that nontrivial 3-form fluxes require the existence of imaginary self-dual harmonic forms $$\omega ^{2,1}$$ ω 2 , 1 . Although excluded in the classical Kronheimer construction, they may be reintroduced by means of mass deformations. Next we concentrate on the other essential item for the D3-brane construction, namely, the existence of a Ricci-flat metric on $$Y^\Gamma $$ Y Γ . We study the issue of Ricci-flat Kähler metrics on such resolutions $$Y^\Gamma $$ Y Γ , with particular attention to the case $$\Gamma =\mathbb {Z}_4$$ Γ = Z 4 . We advance the conjecture that on the exceptional divisor of $$Y^\Gamma $$ Y Γ the Kronheimer Kähler metric and the Ricci-flat one, that is locally flat at infinity, coincide. The conjecture is shown to be true in the case of the Ricci-flat metric on $$\mathrm{tot} K_{{\mathbb {W}P}[112]}$$ tot K W P [ 112 ] that we construct, i.e., the total space of the canonical bundle of the weighted projective space $${\mathbb {W}P}[112]$$ W P [ 112 ] , which is a partial resolution of $$\mathbb {C}^3/\mathbb {Z}_4$$ C 3 / Z 4 . For the full resolution, we have $$Y^{\mathbb {Z}_4}={\text {tot}} K_{\mathbb {F}_{2}}$$ Y Z 4 = tot K F 2 , where $$\mathbb {F}_2$$ F 2 is the second Hirzebruch surface. We try to extend the proof of the conjecture to this case using the one-parameter Kähler metric on $$\mathbb {F}_2$$ F 2 produced by the Kronheimer construction as initial datum in a Monge–Ampère (MA) equation. We exhibit three formulations of this MA equation, one in terms of the Kähler potential, the other two in terms of the symplectic potential but with two different choices of the variables. In both cases, one can establish a series solution in powers of the variable along the fibers of the canonical bundle. The main property of the MA equation is that it does not impose any condition on the initial geometry of the exceptional divisor, rather it uniquely determines all the subsequent terms as local functionals of this initial datum. Although a formal proof is still missing, numerical and analytical results support the conjecture. As a by-product of our investigation, we have identified some new properties of this type of MA equations that we believe to be so far unknown.

AbstractWe study some types of qc-Einstein manifolds with zero qc-scalar curvature introduced by S. Ivanov and D. Vassilev. Secondly, we shall construct a family of quaternionic Hermitian metrics $$(g_a,\{J_\alpha \}_{\alpha =1}^3)$$ ( g a , { J α } α = 1 3 ) on the domain Y of the standard quaternion space $${\mathbb {H}}^n$$ H n one of which, say $$(g_a,J_1)$$ ( g a , J 1 ) is a Bochner flat Kähler metric. To do so, we deform conformally the standard quaternionic contact structure on the domain X of the quaternionic Heisenberg Lie group$${{\mathcal {M}}}$$ M to obtain quaternionic Hermitian metrics on the quotient Y of X by $${\mathbb {R}}^3$$ R 3 .

AbstractLet $$(X,L_{X})$$ ( X , L X ) be an n-dimensional polarized manifold. Let D be a smooth hypersurface defined by a holomorphic section of $$L_{X}$$ L X . We prove that if D has a constant positive scalar curvature Kähler metric, $$X {\setminus } D$$ X \ D admits a complete scalar-flat Kähler metric, under the following three conditions: (i) $$n \ge 6$$ n ≥ 6 and there is no nonzero holomorphic vector field on X vanishing on D, (ii) the average of a scalar curvature on D denoted by $${\hat{S}}_{D}$$ S ^ D satisfies the inequality $$0< 3 {\hat{S}}_{D} < n(n-1)$$ 0 < 3 S ^ D < n ( n - 1 ) , (iii) there are positive integers $$l(>n),m$$ l ( > n ) , m such that the line bundle $$K_{X}^{-l} \otimes L_{X}^{m}$$ K X - l ⊗ L X m is very ample and the ratio m/l is sufficiently small.

Abstract Consider a holomorphic submersion between compact Kähler manifolds, such that each fibre admits a constantscalar curvature Kähler metric. When the fibres admit continuous automorphisms, a choice of fibrewise constant scalarcurvature Kähler metric is not unique. An optimal symplectic connection is a choice of fibrewise constant scalar curvature Kähler metric satisfying a geometric partial differential equation. The condition generalises the Hermite-Einstein condition for a holomorphic vector bundle through the induced fibrewise Fubini-Study metric on the associated projectivisation. We prove various foundational analytic results concerning optimal symplectic connections. Our main result proves that optimal symplectic connections are unique, up to the action of the automorphism group of the submersion, when they exist. Thus optimal symplectic connections are canonical relatively Kähler metrics when they exist. In addition, we show that the existence of an optimal symplectic connection forces the automorphism group of the submersion to be reductive and that an optimal symplectic connection is automatically invariant under a maximal compact subgroup of this automorphism group. We also prove that when a submersion admits an optimal symplectic connection, it achieves the absolute minimum of a natural log norm functional, which we define.

Abstract We prove the Kobayashi—Hitchin correspondence and the approximate Kobayashi—Hitchin correspondence for twisted holomorphic vector bundles on compact Kähler manifolds. More precisely, if X is a compact manifold and g is a Gauduchon metric on X, a twisted holomorphic vector bundle on X is g−polystable if and only if it is g−Hermite-Einstein, and if X is a compact Kähler manifold and g is a Kähler metric on X, then a twisted holomorphic vector bundle on X is g−semistable if and only if it is approximate g−Hermite-Einstein.

Abstract We investigate parallel Lagrangian foliations on Kähler manifolds. On the one hand, we show that a Kähler metric admitting a parallel Lagrangian foliation must be flat. On the other hand, we give many examples of parallel Lagrangian foliations on closed flat Kähler manifolds which are not tori. These examples arise from Anosov automorphisms preserving a Kähler form.
