Samarinda is part of an anticlinorium, which is marked by the existence of many anticlines. In addition, various types of rock and aquifer can be found in the city due to the uniqueness of geological structure of the area. Nevertheless, the literature are lacking attention of hydrogeological condition of this area. This research aims to determine the hydrogeology of the Karang Mumus watershed, particularly in relation to its geology and land use conditions. The research uses an inductive method, with an analytical approach consisting of a study of the land use, hydrological conditions, geology, geomorphology and hydrogeology. The Karang Mumus watershed can be divided into three hydrogeological layers: (1) an aquitard layer, the top layer, which has a hydraulic conductivity of 4.3 × 10-6 m/sec, and is dominated by siltstone; (2) an aquifer layer in the middle, with a hydraulic conductivity of 2.6 × 10-4 m/sec, dominated by sand and sandstone; and (3) an aquiclude layer occupying the lower layer, with a hydraulic conductivity of 1.6 × 10-11 m/sec, and which is dominated by claystone.

The Siwalik foothill is bounded between the Siwalik Range in the north and Indo- Gangetic Plain in the south. The Siwalik Range is composed of sedimentary rock, mainly the alternating beds of sandstone and mudstone and conglomerate. The Indo-Gangetic Plain consists of coarse sand, gravel, pebble, cobble and boulders in the northern part (Bhabar zone) that becomes finer (up to gravel size) southwards. Because of porous geology, the Bhabar zone is the potential area for groundwater recharge, but there is a restricted water availability due to deeper water table. A detailed investigation of has been carried out in parts of Chulachuli Village Development Committee of Ilam district, Nepal to assess the hydrogeological condition. The secondary information and primary data collected in the field and interpretation of satellite imageries had been carried out to extract relevant information and update the geological map of the area. The Bhabar zone is characterized by the low availability of water for drinking and irrigation purposes while the Middle Terai is represented by better groundwater potentiality.

The topography, hydrogeological condition and engineering geological condition of various regions are complicated in China. The demolition and site preparation of mountains construction site generally need to do a large number of excavation and embankment fill, need to consider the problem such as landslide and slope, temporary earthwork stack. The available soil temporary stack involving the question such as safety, environmental protection, etc, with two instances to illustrate should according to quality, safety and environmental protection objectives for construction management of temporary pile soil.

On the basis of surrounding environment, including ground geological and hydrogeological condition of a connection line between line 1 and line 3 in Chengdu subway, open cut method is used to build the connection line. The whole line is divided into three sections, shotcrete and bolt support is adopted to maintain the stability of foundation pit by slope excavation, well rotary bored piles are used to support other foundation pit of the connection line. Meanwhile, the designed parameters of dewatering well points for the open cut tunnel are discussed and the anti-buoyancy ability of open cut tunnel is also analyzed in the paper. The purpose of this paper is to lead the design of open cut tunnels in Chengdu cities, including such similar subway tunnels in other cities in the world.

According to the engineering geological and hydrogeological condition of loess tunnel with large transection in the expressway from Datong to Hunyuan, and on the basis of the planned running speed of motorized vehicles in the loess tunnel, the excogitative parameters of tunnel support for relevant surrounding rock and its driving method have been put forth in this paper. The application of the presented new construction method for expressway loess tunnel has accomplished a great success.
