Samarinda is part of an anticlinorium, which is marked by the existence of many anticlines. In addition, various types of rock and aquifer can be found in the city due to the uniqueness of geological structure of the area. Nevertheless, the literature are lacking attention of hydrogeological condition of this area. This research aims to determine the hydrogeology of the Karang Mumus watershed, particularly in relation to its geology and land use conditions. The research uses an inductive method, with an analytical approach consisting of a study of the land use, hydrological conditions, geology, geomorphology and hydrogeology. The Karang Mumus watershed can be divided into three hydrogeological layers: (1) an aquitard layer, the top layer, which has a hydraulic conductivity of 4.3 × 10-6 m/sec, and is dominated by siltstone; (2) an aquifer layer in the middle, with a hydraulic conductivity of 2.6 × 10-4 m/sec, dominated by sand and sandstone; and (3) an aquiclude layer occupying the lower layer, with a hydraulic conductivity of 1.6 × 10-11 m/sec, and which is dominated by claystone.

In today's world, when it is so important to use every piece of land for a particular purpose, both economically and ecologically, identifying optimal land use is a key issue. For this reason, an analysis of the optimal land use in a section of the city of Olsztyn, using the L-system Urban Development computer program, was chosen as the aim of this paper. The program uses the theories of L-systems and the cartographic method to obtain results in the form of sequences of productions or maps. For this reason, the first chapters outline both theories, i.e. the cartographic method to identify optimal land use and Lindenmayer grammars (called L-systems). An analysis based on a fragment of the map of Olsztyn was then carried out. Two functions were selected for the analysis: agricultural and forest-industrial. The results are presented as maps and sequences in individual steps.

Sukabumi District located in Southern West Java known as a region that has diverse natural characteristics, however, it is vulnerable to disasters, especially landslides. Moreover, this study focuses on Cisolok District because this region always occurred landslides every year due to topography aspect. The aim of this study is to analyze the influence of geomorphology to landslide-prone area in Cisolok District to reduce landslides. This study used overlay analysis for geomorphology mapping, while the Frequency Ratio (FR) method used for landslide-prone area mapping. Several physical variables used in this study such as slope, elevation, lithology, geological structure, road network, stream network, land use, soil type, rainfall, and landslide location. The result shows that the study areas have diverse geomorphology units dominated by volcanic slope with steep topography. While landslide-prone area consist of four classes : namely 17,03% low, 62,05% medium, 14,4% high, and 6,51% very high. Variety of landslide vulnerability in study area influenced by terrain form, land genesis, and geomorphic process.

As the capital of the province of East Kalimantan, Samarinda City developments has a rapid progress from year to year. Samarinda City Development has a tendency oriented towards infrastructure development without regard to the existence of the quality of the existing environment. Imbalance of development in Samarinda city is to start decreasing the water catchment area, so its make increasing intensity of flood in the Samarinda City. The purpose of this study was to analyze the impact of changes in land use in the Samarinda city on the ability of the water catchment area. This research method using descriptive approach, the data collection system of primary and secondary. Intensity flood in the Samarinda city  is increasing from year to year, this condition happened as a problem that always occurs during the rainy season. Current development trends, always take an area that should be an infiltration  area for Samarinda City. Culture and inadequate infrastructure conditions such as lack of system of drainage and polder, was another factor causing the high intensity of flood  in Samarinda City. Therefore, the relevant regulations development guidelines for Samarinda  City must consider all aspects of planning, in this case especially the important of a balance of cultivated land and protected areas or zones.Keywords: Changes in land use; intensity of puddles; Samarinda

The transit system serving Greater Vancouver has high ridership and a high rate of growth. Using as a base the well-designed, well-patronized trolleybus grid in the City of Vancouver, an inter-connected suburban bus network has been created, with radial, cross-radial, and local routes meeting on a timed connection basis at suburban shopping centres and other foci. Planners' thoughts for the future include greater emphasis on the micro and macro aspects of land use and relations to transit; the use of capital intensive modes for heavy trunk routes; and the use of various forms of para-transit for low-density and certain feeder applications.

Cellular automata (CA) models have been used in urban studies for dealing with land use change. Transport and accessibility are arguably the main drivers of urban change and have a direct influence on land use. Land use and transport interaction models deal with the complexity of this relationship using many different approaches. CA models incorporate these drivers, but usually consider transport (and accessibility) variables as exogenous. Our paper presents a CA model where transport variables are endogenous to the model and are calibrated along with the land use variables to capture the interdependent complexity of these phenomena. The model uses irregular cells and a variable neighborhood to simulate land use change, taking into account the effect of the road network. Calibration is performed through a particle swarm algorithm. We present an application of the model to a comparison of scenarios for the construction of a ring road in the city of Coimbra, Portugal. The results show the ability of the CA model to capture the influence of change of the transport network (and thus in accessibility) in the land use dynamics.

<p>An integrative interdisciplinary approach is currently developed to investigate groundwater systems in alpine and prealpine environments and how they respond to hydrological extremes such as droughts, heavy rain and floods in terms of water quantity, hydrochemical quality, and ecological status. The new approach is aimed at improving the understanding of the interaction between physical, chemical, and biological processes in groundwater responses to extreme events as well as developing indicators suitable for an integrative monitoring and management of the aquifers. For this purpose, observation wells of the existing state hydrographic monitoring net have been selected within the Austrian part of the Mur river basin, stretching from the alpine origin to the national border in the foreland. The investigation area thus comprises diverse hydrogeological settings and land-use types. The selected observation wells have long-term records of groundwater levels and are used for sampling campaigns under different hydrological conditions. Groundwater level fluctuations are evaluated using drought indices and statistical approaches, such as auto-correlation and cross-correlation with precipitation and stream stages. Our hydrochemical analyses of groundwater and surface waters also consider compounds indicative of agricultural sources (e.g., nitrate), wastewater-borne micro-pollutants, and stable isotopes of water. These indicators are used to identify different drivers controlling water origin and quality. The ecological status is characterized using microbiological measures, such as total number of bacteria and microbial activity, groundwater fauna, and the qualitative composition of dissolved organic matter (DOM). First results demonstrate a deterioration of water quality from groundwater to surface water and from the alpine region towards the foreland, corresponding to the more intense agricultural and urban land use in the foreland. Linkages between water quality and hydrological conditions are currently being evaluated and will be further examined using UV-Vis spectrometry for high-resolution in-situ monitoring of water quality changes (DOM and nitrate) at selected observation wells.</p>

The use of cargo cycles for last-mile parcel distribution requires urban micro-consolidation centers (UMC). We develop an approach to localize suitable locations for UMCs with the consideration of three criteria: demand, land use, and type of road. The analysis considers metric levels (demand), linguistic levels (land use), and cardinal levels (type of road). The land-use category is divided into commercial, residential, mixed commercial and residential, and others. The type of road category is divided into bicycle road, pedestrian zone, oneway road, and traffic-calmed road. The approach is a hybrid multi-criteria analysis combining an Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP) and PROMETHEE methods. We apply the approach to the city center of Stuttgart in Germany, using real demand data provided by a large logistics service provider. We compared different scenarios weighting the criteria differently with DART software. The different weight allocation results in different numbers of required UMCs and slightly different locations. This research was able to develop, implement, and successfully apply the proposed approach. In subsequent steps, stakeholders such as logistics companies and cities should be involved at all levels of this approach to validate the selected criteria and depict the “weight” of each criterion.

Considerando que o processo de desenvolvimento urbano implica na multiplicação dos impactos ambientais decorrentes do assentamento humano sobre a área de influência da cidade e a existência de diretrizes de ação visando à promoção da sustentabilidade urbana na Agenda 21 brasileira, bem como nas disposições do Estatuto da Cidade, especialmente no que se refere aos objetivos da política urbana, garantia do direito a cidades sustentáveis, planejamento do desenvolvimento urbano, estudo de impacto de vizinhança e ao Plano Diretor, o trabalho aponta possibilidades de efetivação destas diretrizes e dispositivos legais no gerenciamento urbano por meio de políticas públicas locais no âmbito dos transportes, habitação e uso do solo. Tais políticas deverão estar dirigidas a objetivos ambientais definidos em função do grau de qualidade ambiental urbana presente e da eqüidade da sua distribuição espacial, visando a uma situação futura desejada. Public policies and urban sustainable development Abstract Considering that urban development is directly related to the spreading of environmental impacts caused by human settlements within city limits and the existence of directives in the Brazilian Agenda 21 regarding the promotion of urban sustainability, as well as the content of the City Statute regarding urban policies towards sustainable cities and urban planing, this study presents possibilities of implementing directives and legal measures for urban management by means of local public policies concerning transportation, habitation and land use. Such policies should be directed towards environmental objectives, defined with regard to the present urban environmental quality and spatial distribution, aiming at a desired future condition.

The Mexican Caribbean and its main cities have the highest population growth rate in Mexico. This work goal was to analyze the growth of the city of Chetumal and the geopedological characteristics in which it has been developed, to identify potential hazards and thereby improve development programs. The methodology consisted in the study of geopedological characteristics and the analysis of land use changes in the city over time. The main problems of Chetumal are floods and subsidence. Floods are more common in areas where Gleysols soils are found in low-lying areas. The subsidence is associated to Leptosols with a phreatic mantle at a shallow depth where the precipitations favors dissolution of rock. The extrapolation of the relationships between geopedological conditions and the area occupied by the city, allows us to suppose that areas which the current Urban Development Program proposes for future city expansion will develop the same problems of subsidence and flooding as the areas already built in sites with similar conditions.
