Diversity has existed for a long time. Diversity is not a tool to cause conflict between humans. However, improper multicultural management can lead to conflict. Multicultural awareness is needed for humans with various differences, so that humans can live side by side and respect each other. This study is a normative qualitative through library research. The research is oriented towards discovering the conception of multicultural awareness as the Isyarah of Al-Qur'an. Primary data sources are taken from the Al-Qur'an and secondary data are taken from Tafsir books. This result shows that multicultural awareness in the Al-Qur’an perspective is essentially an attitude of glorifying humans regardless of background differences. A society that has multicultural awareness can be seen from the suitability of its attitude with characteristics and ethics. Multicultural awareness can build wasaṭiyyah attitude. With these characteristics, a person's multicultural awareness will be able to prevent radical-liberal behavior.

Reflecting on the situation during New Order and the Era of Reformation where disequilibrium between aspects of development and conflict occurred, this paper offers an empirical model of multicultural management. In short, this model directs the process of cultural critical reflection towards an effort to optimally encourage the spirit of multiculturalism. The decision regarding the empirical nature of this model was made because through this paper, it is hoped that this will lead to further research about multicultural management in Indonesia. There is no need for any conflict between the many subcultures of Indonesia; however, there is a need for a commitment to optimize multiculturalism as a major force to achieve the Bangunan Indonesia Baru. Commitment is not mere enthusiasm, but it can serve as an effective national movement as seen in modern leadership today that demand concrete action. The key to success of this model, which is Soerjanto Poespowardojo's idea, lies in the equilibrium between the maximization of developmental aspect (progress) and the minimization of conflict aspect.

Education and intercultural communication in the context of shaping intercultural competences In the context of anthropological and interactionist assumptions, the author indicates the challenges and tasks of intercultural education and communication in the process of shaping intercultural competences. The author draws attention and justifies the thesis that the changeability and dynamics of the multicultural world result in the need to develop a new theory of acculturation and a new policy of multicultural management. Also analysed are the intercultural competences that take on special significance in the revitalization of heterology, the science/learning about Others, and in the constant need for dialogue among cultures.

[ACCESS RESTRICTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI AT AUTHOR'S REQUEST.] This dissertation is an ethnographic study of retail work in Queens, New York. Through 10 months of fieldwork and 52 interview with retail workers, I look at how workers find meaning and belonging in precarious jobs. Retail capitalism depends on precarity, or a flexible and disposable workforce. Most retail workers are part-time with low wages and little job security. Though many popular and scholarly works depict corporate retail as a "bad job," retail workers themselves are diverse, competent, and form meaningful relationships. My dissertation examines the effects of precarity on one hand and the "work lives" of retail workers on the other. I find that retail workers use retail brands to construct personal identity, often contradicting the meanings intended by the retailers themselves. I also find that workers value intimacy and friendship at work, often more than they value the work itself. I argue that multicultural identity is particularly important to retail workers in Queens and other super-diverse cities. Retailers attempt to profit from this diversity through multicultural management, but generally fail to create a truly inclusive environment. My dissertation is important for anyone interested in work and labor, particularly low-status service jobs and other precarious work. It is important not to view workers as cogs in a machine, even in the most exploitative and temporary conditions. Precarious workers are active agents in constructing their work lives, though they may not always recognize the social and economic conditions that shape their world. By considering the forms of belonging that matter to workers--identity, intimacy, and inclusivity--we may be able to imagine forms of labor politics that energize a new generation of workers.
