The design of a Skip-lot sampling plan of type SkSP-R is presented for time truncated life test for the Weibull, Exponentiated Weibull, and Birnbaum-Saunders lifetime distributions. The plan parameters of the SkSP-R plan under these three distributions are determined through a nonlinear optimization problem. Tables are also constructed for each distribution. The advantages of the proposed plan over the existing sampling schemes are discussed. Application of the proposed plan is explained with the help of an example. The Birnbaum-Saunders distribution is economically superior to other two distributions in terms of minimum average sample number.

In this paper, the exponentiated gamma distribution (EGD) with generalized Type-I hybrid censored data under constant-stress partially accelerated life test (CSPALT) model is considered. The Bayesian and E-Bayesian estimation methods, as well as the maximum likelihood estimation method, are discussed for the parameter of the distribution and the acceleration factor. The E-Bayesian and Bayesian estimates are derived by using the squared error loss (SEL) and the LINEX loss functions. The MCMC method is applied for deriving the Bayesian and then E-Bayesian estimates. Moreover, a real data set is given for the illustrative purpose. After all, an evaluation is performed for the results of the proposed methods.

The study’s purpose was to find and create a nourishing fruit juice made from avocado to suit nutritional and health demands. In this regard, the avocado juice was formulated using a statistical technique, and its biochemical and phytochemical characteristics were evaluated. Statistically formulated fruit juice was evaluated for its sensory characteristics, proximate composition, nutrients and vitamins, total phenols and flavonoids, and for its antioxidant ability, in addition to a shelf-life test. The optimal amount of all ingredients included in the mathematical model for the preparation of the juice was 150 g of Persea americana (Avocado) fruit pulp, 12.5 g of honey and 100 mL of water. In fact, the composition of avocado juice was found to have higher phenolic (910.36 ± 0.215 mg EAG g−1/mL) and flavonoid (56.32 ± 1.26 mg QE g−1/ mL) amounts. DPPH, ABTS and FRAP antioxidant assays tended to be high compared with a standard. The shelf-life analysis indicated that the processed avocado juice (V7) had a long shelf life. In view of all these merits, a statistically formulated recipe for avocado fruit juice was recommended for the formulation of the most preferred health drink.

Abstract Across disciplines, we have long sought to understand the factors that contribute to purpose in life. Theorists have posited that having life goals, feeling productive, and remaining active are essential contributing elements to purpose in life (Crumbaugh & Maholick, 1969; Rowe & Kahn, 1997; Ryff, 1989). While these factors can undoubtedly contribute to purpose in life, they may not fully explain purpose in life for older adults in very late life (85 years old and older) who have long past and short future time horizons. In this presentation, we explore the concept of purpose in life for older adults in very late life and how current measures may not fully or accurately apply to this group. We examine the two most commonly used measures of purpose in life, the Purpose in Life Test (Crumbaugh & Maholick, 1964, 1969) and the Ryff Purpose Subscale (Ryff, 1989; Ryff & Keyes, 1995), and identify specific items that should be reconsidered for use with older adults in very late life. We then reconceptualize purpose in life for the oldest old based on several foundational theories, including Socioemotional Selectivity Theory, the Theory of Gerotranscendence, and Terror Management Theory. Stemming from this analysis, we posit that purpose in life in very life consists of three domains – the very long past, the very near future, and the transcendental post-mortem. Based upon this reconceptualization, we recommend the development of new measures of purpose of life in very late life that capture these three domains.

The multiple corrugated diaphragm (MCD) coupling is a new flexible coupling developed based on the diaphragm and diaphragm disc coupling. Compared to traditional couplings, the MCD coupling has the advantages of high torque diameter, high torque weight, and high compensation capability. It is more suitable for high power speed and high power density working conditions. The MCD coupling is subjected to axial, angular, torque, and centrifugal force loads. The fatigue failure caused by alternating stress is the primary failure mode of the coupling. The fatigue life of the MCD coupling cannot be accurately calculated because of the complexity of the force in operation. Some theoretical simplifications can only obtain the approximate result. In this paper, a parameterized finite element model of the MCDs is established. A method for calculating the fatigue safety factor of the MCD coupling is proposed based on a modified Goodman curve to know the design of the MCD coupling. The feasibility of this method is verified by the fatigue life test of the coupling.
