Abstract Understanding the availability and distribution of wetlands is key to conservation, exploitation and better management of wetlands resources. The wetlands of Kumadugu-Yobe river basin are widely spread within the sedimentary formation beyond the famous Hadejia Nguru wetlands. This study identified and map out the spatial distribution of KYRB wetlands using field observation information, the basin base map, the topographical map and high resolution Google image and Advance very High Resolution spectroradiometer (AVHRS) NDVI (Normalized Vegetation Differncial Index) data of 2018, in mapping the wetlands spatial distribution pattern. The findings of the study classified the basin wetlands in to flood plain along the river banks, surface depressions ponds and Oasis. The basin wetlands are spread all over the sedimentary geological formation of the basin. The wetlands of the mid and downstream parts of KYRB are largely spread along river Yobe, river Kumadugu-Gana, small tributaries (Alaraba, Damaturu, Budum-Gana among others), famous Hadejia-Nguru wetlands, Oases at the northern parts of the river Yobe and isolated pockets of ponds. The study recommended for effective geo data base for the wetlands.

Performance-related pay policies applied to the Police have been implemented in Brazil and Latin America since the 2000s in an attempt to reduce the main violent crime indicators. The Integrated Targets System (Sistema Integrado de Metas – SIM), the Pacifying Police Units (Unidades de Polícia Pacificadora – UPP) and the Additional Service Regime (Regime Adicional de Serviço – RAS), initiated in the state of Rio de Janeiro in 2009, sought to reduce “strategic state crime indicators” whose results are monitored by the civil police report data. In order to understand how these policies have been implemented in the state of Rio de Janeiro between 2007 and 2017, the study adopts a quantitative approach upon criminal analysis and a qualitative one based on interviews and field observation at civil police stations and military police battalions.

The reviewed book is one of the few anthropological studies of encounters of indigenous and “Western” ontologies in the resource-dependent economies of South America. Using qualitative methods—primarily field observation—the authors demonstrate the inadequacy of perceiving the interactions between indigenous communities and extractive companies only as a conflict. The review shows how the structural organization of most chapters makes it possible to imagine the relationship between capitalist and indigenous worlds as being much more complex and not corresponding to the romanticized image of an “authentic Indian”. In addition to its academic significance, the reviewer draws attention to a practical aspect: how the problematization of ontological differences contributes to the implementation of industrial and infrastructure projects that can have an impact on indigenous communities. At the same time, the review also demonstrates some inconsistencies that occur either throughout the book or in separate chapters. These include, for example, the isolation of the positions of non-indigenous actors, the unintentional reproduction of stereotypical ideas about indigenous communities, the lack of historical context for the categorization of South American societies on the basis of indigeneity. The authors’ innovative understanding of extractivism as a model of value extraction opens up new possible scenarios for the research of indigenous ontologies in the context of global capitalism.

Abstract The problem of reservoir sedimentation occurs worldwide, including in the Wonogiri reservoir, Indonesia. The reservoir was built from 1977 to 1980, but the dam faces a severe problem of sedimentation. Sediment inflow in the Wonogiri Reservoir comes from several sources, especially from Keduang River, a tributary from Mount Lawu. The sediment management problems are generally complicated and different in every place. In some conditions, it will be possible to prevent sediment from entering the reservoir by adding an internal barrier as applied in the Wonogiri Reservoir. The reservoir is divided into two reservoirs by a closure dike equipped with an overflow dike and a new spillway. This paper will describe the development of closure dike based on field observation and data obtained from the Ministry of Public Works and Housing. Moreover, this paper will also describe the sedimentation status of the Wonogiri reservoir based on the recent bathymetric data. The development of closure dike already completed, which consists of Closure Dike A (700 m), B (700 m), C (302 m), and Overflow Dike (298 m). The recent bathymetric survey revealed that the capacity of effective storage of the main reservoir is 322.84 MCM.
