<p>Research Problem:  There is a contradiction surrounding ebooks in that they are becoming more and more common in academic libraries but evidence often suggests that users still prefer print books to ebooks. The purpose of the study is to examine how users at the University of Canterbury are using the Library’s ebooks and what their attitudes towards ebooks are. The study also looks at what role age, gender, academic status and college affiliation play in shaping attitudes towards and use of ebooks.   Methodology:  The study used an online survey to discover how ebooks were used and viewed by users at the University of Canterbury. The survey was largely quantitative but included several comments sections where users could give more qualitative answers. The population sampled was the academic staff and PhD students of the University of Canterbury.   Results:   The results show that the participants are mostly aware of and using ebooks. Opinion is still divided on ebooks with some user still preferring print and many users preferring access to both print and ebooks. Age, gender, academic status and college affiliation all have some effect on attitudes towards and use of ebooks.   Implications:  Academic libraries need to take note of the opinions their users have about ebooks so as to better meet their needs. Some of the problems around ebook use can be solved by increased user education but others are the result of restrictions placed on ebooks by publishers and vendors. Other problems are inherent to the ebook format and cannot be ignored. Academic libraries can best meet their users’ needs by providing both print and ebook collections were possible.</p>

<p>Information literacy, bibliographic instruction or user education? These terms are widely used to describe the programmes designed to assist library clients in their use of library resources. There are as many variations in these programmes as there libraries. This study is designed to satisfy a professional curiosity regarding the appropriate uses of the above terms. Whilst the terms are often used interchangeably in the literature, their definitions suggest that this should not be occurring. Models of information seeking behaviours are compared with the definitions for user education, information literacy and bibliographic instruction. The matching of programme aims and objectives with the definitions of the three terms is an important aspect in the correct usage of the terms.</p>

The study investigated utilization of information and communication technology-based information resources in library user education programmes in South-South Nigeria. Four research questions and one hypothesis guided the study. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised 1022 respondents which consist of 62 staff and 960 library users. The instrument for data collection was questionnaire of a four-point rating scale and observation checklist. Tools used for data analysis of research questions were frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation; t-test was used to test the null hypothesis at selected probability of 0.05 level significance. The findings revealed that the ICT facilities available are limited for effective utilization of ICT-based information resources in library user education programmes. The study reveals that ICT-based resources listed in the table were utilized to high extent in South-South colleges of education libraries for user education programmes. It also shows that poor funding was the major challenge of utilization of ICT-based resources for user education programmes in colleges of education libraries under study.

The user education program is one of the university library's efforts in improving the information literacy skills of users, especially students. The user education program aims to guide students so that they can take advantage of the library and carry out information searches effectively and efficiently. In general, user education programs in university libraries are intended for all users, but some programs are intended for students, including final-year students. This research uses a descriptive quantitative research method, with purposive random sampling method as the sampling method, and final-year students of the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember as the research population.
