In the modern era of design governed by economics and efficiency, the preliminary design of a semi-submersible is critically important because in an evolutionary design environment new designs evolve from the basic preliminary designs and the basic dimensions and configurations affect almost all the parameters related to the economics and efficiency (e.g. hydrodynamic response, stability, deck load and structural steel weight of the structure, etc.). The present paper is focused on exploring an optimum design method that aims not only at optimum motion characteristics but also optimum stability, manufacturing and operational efficiency. Our proposed method determines the most preferable optimum principal dimensions of a semi-submersible that satisfies the desired requirements for motion performance and stability at the preliminary stage of design. Our proposed design approach interlinks the mathematical design model with the global optimization techniques and this paper presents the preliminary design approach, the mathematical model of optimization. Finally, a real world design example of a semi-submersible is presented to show the applicability and efficiency of the proposed design optimization model at the preliminary stage of design.

This Community Service Activity (PKM) aims to provide financial literacy education on online loans to groups of mothers and teenagers. A large number of online loan offers to this group means that knowledge of the characteristics and requirements of these online loans needs to be well understood. The implementation method of this PKM activity is carried out through the preliminary stage, implementation stage and monitoring stage. This PKM activity concludes that financial literacy education, especially related to online loans, is very beneficial for mothers and teenagers because many of these groups still do not understand basic accounting and finance. This group still does not consider the inherent risks of getting an online loan.

Abstract Sustainability Science (SS) is important in resource management, however not always well translated into actions. This research aims to find and implement practical applications of SS in the preliminary stage of landscape planning in Bunaken-Tangkoko-Minahasa Biosphere Reserve (BTMBR). The researchers put both perception and role of all local parties from the problem definition stage in landscape planning into account. The primary data was collected by using questionnaires. The secondary data includes literature review of SS in landscape planning, BTMBR’s characteristics, regulations and organizations. The researchers analyse landscape firstly by its 3-in-1-components namely space, environment, and human an later as unity. All parties consider watershed management as the entry point to sustainable and resilient landscape planning in this research case. The upstream part is perceived playing an important role, and because it is located in BTMBR core zone, this can be useful in future landscape management programs. The slope degree, which relates to watershed parts, is an important factor therefore landscape planning should consider different demand according to it. The Tondano Lake, as an important water element in BTMBR, do not have any conservation status. The researchers propose efforts to improve regulation and program including all local parties integration and involvement.

Mixed vaginitis is the simultaneous presence of at least two types of vaginitis, contributing to an abnormal vaginal milieu and leading to vaginal symptoms and signs. However, associations between symptoms and the type of mixed vaginitis have not been clearly elucidated, and research on mixed vaginitis is still in the preliminary stage. Therefore, the pathogenic mechanism of mixed vaginitis remains understudied. Mixed vaginitis generally involves the formation of mixed biofilms. The study of polymicrobial interactions and mixed biofilms will provide a new idea for the understanding of mixed vaginitis. Moreover, this review summarizes some effective management and laboratory diagnosis of mixed vaginitis to avoid inappropriate therapy, recurrence, and reinfection. It is of high clinical importance to obtain relevant clinical data to improve clinical knowledge about mixed vaginitis.

Periphrastic topic structures, as Chinese-style topic structures, belong to the category of prepositional topic fronting constructions in TSVO sequences. Findings from studies on periphrastic topic structures are inconsistent and present only a fragmented understanding. Therefore, the present study is conducted to make up for the gap and aims to reveal the developmental features of periphrastic topic structures (henceforth PTS) through investigating the production and the recognition of PTSs in Chinese college English learners’ Chinese-English interlanguage. The result suggests that with advances in learners’ English proficiency levels, periphrastic topic structures diminish from the preliminary stage to the intermediate stage gradually, but present a much higher degree of fossilization at the advanced level. Theoretically, this finding may further support Yang’s findings(2008) and validate the Selective Fossilization Hypothesis model (SFH model) proposed by Han (2009).

AbstractMany grant applications have a preliminary stage where only a select group are invited to submit a full application. Similarly, procurement contracts by governments are often awarded through a two-stage procedure. We model and analyze such environments where the designer cares about the style of the application as well as its quality. The designer has the option of choosing an initial stage, where contestants can enter and learn about their desirability while the designer learns about their style. We determine closed form solutions for equilibrium outcomes and designer payoffs and use this to analyze whether or not a second stage is desirable, different rules for deciding who will advance, and whether or not to communicate the number of contestants that qualify for the second stage.

The number of satellites and debris in space is dangerously increasing through the years. For that reason, it is mandatory to design techniques to approach the position of a given object at a given time. In this paper, we present a system to do so based on a database of satellite positions according to their coordinates (x,y,z) for one month. We have paid special emphasis on the preliminary stage of data arrangement, since if we do not have consistent data, the results we will obtain will be useless, so the first stage of this work is a full study of the information gathered locating the missing gaps of data and covering them with a prediction. With that information, we are able to calculate an orbit error which will estimate the position of a satellite in time, even when the information is not accurate, by means of prediction of the satellite’s position. The comparison of two satellites over 26 days will serve to highlight the importance of the accuracy in the data, provoking in some cases an estimated error of 4% if the data are not well measured.

The paper considers the keystones of obtaining a medical practice license by dentists of any specialties who want to begin the private medical practice in any organizational and legal form. To obtaining a license, a dentist must pass a certain preliminary stage: to choose organizational and legal form, to find necessary premises, equipment, and materials, to find qualified medical staff, get a sanitary-epidemiological inspection act, and to prepare documents for the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. At this stage, a future licensee faces some difficulties, because the regulatory requirements are often contradictory, and to process them you need to study a significant number of regulations. However, in case of careful preparation, obtaining a license for medical practice is a fairly simple process, if the future licensee considers all the requirements of applicable law in the preparatory stage.
