Since the promulgation of the new plan for the national college entrance examination reform in 2014, all provinces have been gradually promoting the new college entrance examination reform. In this context, schools are actively carrying out various reforms to improve the quality of education and teaching. However, can school reform only aim at the national college entrance examination? Facing the new national college entrance examination reform, what can schools do?

This article reports on a study of policymaking at transnational and local universities in China concerning English Medium Instruction (EMI) provision, and the impact this has on stakeholder experiences. It explores policymaking at two transnational universities, which are compared and contrasted with data collected at six other Chinese universities that offer EMI programmes. Data were collected via individual and group interviews with 26 key policy stakeholders during fieldwork at the eight universities and centred on language-related policy diffusion surrounding admissions, language support, and language use. Findings revealed a reliance on foundation year studies at transnational universities versus the Gaokao (national college entrance examination) at other universities to ensure students had the requisite proficiency upon admissions. Findings also revealed transnational universities were more likely to offer language support to their students and have language policies governing language use. Overall, the findings reveal a range of affordances and caveats associated with each institution’s contextualized policy making, causing ease and conflict for EMI stakeholders.

Resumes are critical for individuals to find jobs and for HR to select staffs. To explore the career patterns and demographic information correlation, 372,829 Chinese resumes working in Beijing in 2015 are collected with rich attributes. Besides, 1,837,281 documents in the People's Daily from May 1946 to December 2015 and the national college entrance examination scores of 42 majors in 27 Beijing universities from 2005 to 2015 are collected to build the multi-source dataset to assist resume data mining. The decade characteristics and major characteristics are explored from the multi-source dataset. Based on the data observation, an interactive visualization system called ResumeVis is developed to explore career patterns in the context of the times, especially the correlations among the resume attributes. The system is helpful for both job seekers and human resources.

China National College Entrance Examination(NCEE) reform originates from the thirst for innovative talents in China's economic development. In the past, the NCEE only focused on the level of students' admission to the school without paying attention to students' personal preferences, which led to many people not interested in their major and caused a waste of human resources. The new NCEE gives students an early start in thinking about their college majors and future careers. The new NCEE directly bring about a series of new changes in high schools.

In 2014, a blind massage therapist named Li Jinsheng took the National College Entrance Examination (NCEE) in Braille, the first to do so in China. To everyone's surprise, he turned in blank answer sheets for two of the four subjects, which generated strong criticisms from the general public and blind communities. This article examines the conditions, process, and aftermaths of this event to consider what it means to use an anti-discrimination framework and an impact case approach for disability rights advocacy. Data comes from observation of media representations and discussions, interviews with key actors and stakeholders, and a focus group with blind college students.Our analysis of Li's case shows that in China, anti-discrimination actions often take the form of using individual cases to attack single, identifiable policy barriers, and they are typically carried out by people who are not directly impacted by the state's paternalistic biobureaucracy or the vulnerabilities it generates. As such, these cases might not sufficiently represent the desires and struggles of most people with disabilities, and the individualistic approach might further alienate the disabled communities. While effective in dismantling the particular policy barrier, such anti-discrimination actions may fall short of addressing more systemic, structural issues. This article ends with reflections on the tensions in using anti-discrimination impact cases in China and beyond, and on how to work on deeper struggles and build broader alliances in disability rights advocacy.

Grammar fill-in-the-blank is different from previous single-choice questions. It uses text as a carrier to test students’ English ability, instead of traditional multiple-choice questions. However, is it better than the single-choice test? Is it effective? Taking the grammar filling-in-the-blank questions of the 2020 National College Entrance Examination Papers 1, 2 and 3 as the research object, starting from the grammar filling-in-the-blank, combined with the students’ expected answers, this article conducts an analysis and investigation. The results show that grammar fill-in-the-blank questions are highly effective, which can examine students’ grammatical ability.. However, some test points are still limited to the level of words or phrases, so the discourse function is not fully utilized. In this regard, the author puts forward specific suggestions for improvement.

Abstract In China, college entrance examination is the sensitive and important theoretical and practical problem concerned by the whole education system and society. The college entrance examination refers to the unified national entrance examination system for accessing the ordinary higher education institutions. In this study, the national values are examined to analyze the fairness and justice of China’s new college entrance examination system. The regional practices involve the process of new college entrance examination reform. The new college entrance examination is composed of a series of examination systems, including China’s current unified national college entrance examination system, as well as the comprehensive college entrance examination reform pilot program and independent enrollment reform program. In addition, the conclusion and implication have been offered to explore the rationales of shaping new college entrance examination in current China.
