The paper proposes a new approach that enables the structure analysis and reconstruction of a rough surface where the height of inhomogeneities (from the depression to the upper point) varies within the spread about 20 nm. For the surface diagnostics, carbon nanoparticles are used, which serve as sensitive probes of the local surface height. A single nanoparticle can be positioned at a desirable point of the studied surface with the help of an optical tweezer employing the He-Ne laser radiation. Then the particle is illuminated by the strongly focused exciting beam of 405 nm wavelength, with the waist plane precisely fixed at a certain distance from the surface base plane. The particle’s luminescence response (in the yellow-green spectral range) strongly depends on the distance between the exciting beam waist and the particle, thus indicating the local height of the surface. After scanning the surface area and the consecutive interpolation, the surface “vertical” landscape can be reconstructed with a high accuracy: the numerical simulation shows that the RMS surface roughness is restored with an accuracy of 6.9% while the landscape itself is reconstructed with the mean error 7.7%.

Abstract Objectives/Scope A 60-year-old well exhibited a leak at the surface and sustained annuli pressure (SAP) in all three annuli - A, B and C. The age of the well coupled with the symptoms suggested a complex multi-barrier failure scenario that needed to be diagnosed quickly and accurately so that the well could be secured safely. The paper shows how the comprehensive set of downhole diagnostics, including metal and cement barriers integrity assessment, aided in planning and execution of well intervention to secure the indicated failures. The well intervention team selected an approach to investigate the barriers status prior the rig came to the location. Surface diagnostics included evaluation of pressure trends, completion design, leak fluid composition and drilling records analysis which guided the selection of downhole survey. The input parameters for downhole through barrier diagnostics were: Downhole through barrier diagnostics targeted the evaluation of leak paths and failures in well barriers and included: This paper explores the concept, planning, execution and achieved results of the downhole diagnostics performed and how the results were implemented by Operator.

A complex approach to large-sized parts restoration is shown. There are shown methods developed for parts operation surface restoration depending on a wear degree. There are presented modern technologies and equipment for worn-out surface diagnostics. A method for layer-by-layer restoration and large-sized parts worn-out surface strengthening during product major repair is described. Basic recommendations on operation to increase auger shaft life are given.
