This review essay brings together reflections on four recent books about the current state of England's school system, how this was brought about and what might be a road to recovery. The books have some overlapping themes such as the academy system, testing, accountability and central political control, but interesting differences of approach; however, all of them raise fundamental questions about system change and the quality of young people's education. The conclusion consolidates and extends the theories from the four books with the aim of enhancing a clear understanding for education campaigners and finding ways forward. Both authors have been actively involved in building Reclaiming Schools, a research network established to underpin the work of the NEU, parents and other activists through reliable knowledge (see reclaimingschools. org). The Reclaiming Schools website has regularly drawn on the work of several of these books' authors. Full publication details for each book addressed in the review essay can be found at the end.

Introduction Professional conferences are where research findings are initially presented. Studies suggest many research ideas presented at conferences are never published. Previous studies have demonstrated that the full publication rate of abstracts presented at pharmacy meetings is approximately 20%. The objective of this study was to determine the full publication rate of hematology/oncology abstracts presented at major pharmacy organization annual meetings. Methods A systematic search of PubMed and Google Scholar was performed. Publication status was evaluated for hematology/oncology abstracts presented at annual meetings for the following organizations: American College of Clinical Pharmacy Annual Meeting, American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Midyear Clinical Meeting, Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association Annual Meeting, and International Society of Oncology Pharmacy Practitioners Annual Meeting. Data collected included the meeting of abstract presentation, number of authors, abstract study type, country of origin, journal of publication, and type of publication. Abstracts presented as trainee research were excluded. Results Of 451 oncology abstracts evaluated, the most common topic categories included pharmacotherapy (n = 244; 54.1%), clinical pharmacy practice (n = 84; 18.6%), and operational/compounding (n = 69; 15.3%). The overall publication rate was 17.5% (n = 79). Abstracts were published as full manuscripts over a spread of 48 different journals. Factors associated with full publication included abstracts with more than 5 authors (OR 3.86, 95% CI 2.32-6.43; p < 0.0001) and abstracts presented at oncology-focused pharmacy meetings (OR 2.92, 95% CI 1.49-5.72; p = 0.0018). Conclusion This study showed an overall publication rate of 17.5% for abstracts presented at pharmacy meetings, consistent with prior studies.

The article is devoted to the analysis of the letters of A.M. Rodchenko, which were written by him in Paris during the preparation of the pavilion of the Soviet Union for the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in 1925. The «new Soviet man's» perception of the culture of the Western world is being studied. Letters help to comprehend not only the European, but also the Soviet world of the period of the 1920s. December 5, 2021 will be the anniversary of the birth of Alexander Mikhailovich Rodchenko: 130 years! The round date, as well as the growing interest in everyday history, is due to the relevance of this article. The novelty is the interpretation of this source in the context of Alexander Rodchenko's views on Paris. Researchers turn to letters exclusively to study the Paris exhibition, bypassing Rodchenko's most interesting assessments and opinions regarding the alien and incomprehensible Western world. Rodchenko visited France for the first time and was extremely dissatisfied with it. He was uncomfortable, lonely, trying to distract himself from the alien world, he almost daily wrote letters to his wife Varvara Stepanova in Russia. The time frame of the Paris letters written by him dates from March 19 to June 14. Rodchenko stayed in France for about three months, having written 52 letters during this time. In 1927, they were partially published in the journal «Novy LEF». Their full publication took place only in 2014. I would like to note that the originals of the documents, apparently, are kept in the family's personal archive. For publication , they were provided by A. Lavrentiev, grandson of Rodchenko and Stepanova.

Background: Publication in a scientific journal is the desired outcome of the research cycle. However, previous anesthesiology research has not thoroughly examined factors predictive of subsequent publication after a meeting presentation. We aimed to assess the rate of peer-reviewed publication of abstracts presented at the Japanese Society of Anesthesiologists (JSA) annual meetings and identify factors associated with successful publication. Methods: This study included all abstracts presented at JSA meetings from 2015 to 2017. The outcome of interest was subsequent publication of abstracts in journals included in the MEDLINE database within 36 months after presentation. Differences between published and non-published abstracts were evaluated. Results: Among the 2,418 eligible abstracts, 487 were published within 3 years (publication rate, 20.1%). Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that factors independently associated with subsequent publication were: presentation style (poster discussions: adjusted odds ratios (AOR) 1.70, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.31-2.20; excellent abstracts: AOR 2.82, 95% CI 1.98-4.01); basic research (AOR 4.39, 95%CI 3.23-5.96), male first author (AOR 1.41, 95% CI 1.09-1.81); region (Kansai: AOR 2.16, 95% CI 1.57-2.99; abroad: AOR 4.57, 95% CI 2.58-8.09); facility characteristics (private university: AOR 3.97, 95% CI 2.60-6.08; public university: AOR 3.53, 95%CI 2.35-5.30; medical company: AOR 16.70, 95% CI 3.75-74.46); and number of collaborating facilities (two: AOR 1.50, 95% CI 1.15-1.97; three: AOR 1.83, 95% CI 1.23-2.73; four: AOR 2.40, 95% CI 1.27-4.54). Conclusions: Approximately one-fifth of abstracts presented at JSA meetings are published in peer-reviewed journals within 3 years. Factors independently associated with subsequent full publication are presentation style, basic research, male gender, specific region, affiliation characteristics, and number of collaborating facilities. Our data should stimulate further studies that elucidate ways to assist the full publication process of meeting abstracts.

AbstractThis article presents a full publication of three Christian funerary stelae from Egypt, which were bought in 1912 by Friedrich von Bissing and are now in the Staatliches Museum Ägyptischer Kunst at Munich. The first one represents an orans figure, the second depicts a crux ansata and the third has the names Pasep inscribed (in Greek) on the front and Phanes on the back. Although the precise provenance of these pieces is unknown, stylistic features suggest they are from Deir el-Bala’iza, Armant and Edfu respectively.

In the genre designated "travel literature", which reflects the impressions that our country and its people raised in foreign visitors, the book by French naturalist Pierre Marie Arthur Morelet, Voyage dans L'Amerique Centrale, L'ile de Cuba et le Yucatan (Paris, 1857), certainly occupies a place of honor given the quality of his landscape descriptions, the sharpness of his observations on the socioeconomic situation of Southern Mexico, his significant reflections on culture (rooted in his encyclopedic training) and the excellence of his pen. This article is an invitation to read his work, in the light of its recent full publication in Spanish.
