With the increased penetration of the photovoltaic (PV) energy, the power system stability problem becomes an issue, as the output power of PV plants has unpredictable fluctuations. To maintain the power stability of the PV plants, battery energy storages (BESs) play an important role due to their fast and accurate response speed. However, it is challenging that the BES with multiple sub-modules responds well to the PV power fluctuations resulting from the various influence factors, such as defects, faults, and partial shading. Therefore, a bi-level control strategy is proposed in this paper, aiming at minimizing the operation cost of BES in maintaining power stability. The control strategy consists of the PV power fluctuations identification block and the mitigation block. In specific, the identification block can output the power fluctuation of a PV system by the PV power fluctuation identification technique. The technique is developed based on the characteristics of PV-string current under electrical faults and partial shading conditions. Meanwhile, the mitigation block can manage the multiple battery sub-modules with different regulation characteristics to meet the power fluctuations. At last, the promising results are obtained by MATLAB\Simulink with the coordinated operation of those two blocks, including the precise condition of the PV system and the optimal power output of each battery sub-module. Therefore, a comprehensive bi-level control strategy is developed to regulate the operation of battery sub-modules for PV-BES systems.

This paper analyzes the power stability of the hybrid dual-infeed high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) system containing a line commutated converter-based HVDC (LCC-HVDC) and a voltage source converter-based HVDC (VSC-HVDC). First, the concept and the calculation method of power stability for the hybrid dual-infeed HVDC system are introduced. Second, the influence of VSC-HVDC on the power stability of the system is investigated. Third, the relationship between the power stability and the effective short circuit ratio (ESCR) is discussed under different system parameters. Then, the value range of the critical effective short circuit ratio is determined. Finally, the evaluation criteria of power stability are proposed. The results show that the evaluation criteria of the single-infeed LCC-HVDC system can still be used, if the VSC-HVDC is in constant AC voltage control mode; if the VSC-HVDC is in constant reactive power control mode, the hybrid dual-infeed HVDC system cannot operate stably when the ESCR is less than 2.0 and can operate stably with high power stability margin when the ESCR is greater than 3.0. The ESCR index can still be used to measure the power stability of the hybrid dual-infeed HVDC system.

This paper presents an improved droop control strategy for grid-connected inverter power stability and power quality under distorted with consideration of grid fluctuation and inter-harmonics. An instantaneous frequency without PLL and amplitude of capacitor voltage feed-forward control strategy is given to power stability control, meanwhile a grid current feedback control is given by an incomplete derivation with a high-pass filter, so that the harmonics and inter-harmonics current can be suppressed. These approaches can provide both good active and reactive power dynamic response under fluctuation of frequency, and rejection ability against harmonic and inter-harmonic voltage. Based on model of inverter, the proposed control strategies are designed in detail. Simulations and experiments are present to validate the effectiveness of proposed method.

In order to improve the precision and beam quality of a pump laser for a spin exchange relaxation free inertial measurement device, we applied one scheme to achieve the square wave modulation and power stability control of the pump laser and another one to obtain the uniform intensity distribution of the laser beam, in which the acousto-optic modulator (AOM) and proportion integration differentiation (PID) controller were used to achieve the former, and the freeform surface lens was designed and optimized to achieve the latter based on the TracePro software. In experiments, the first-order diffraction light beam coming through the AOM had a spot size of about 1.1×0.7 mm2, and a spherical vapor cell with a radius of 7 mm was placed behind the freeform surface lens. Results show that the uniformity of the reshaped intensity distribution is higher than 90% within the target area with a radius of 7 mm both in the simulation and the experiment, which ensure that the uniform laser beam covers the area of cell. On the other hand, the power stability of the pump laser is controlled to be less than 0.05%. Compared with traditional methods, the complicated calculation process in optical design is better solved, and a higher uniformity with slight energy loss is achieved.
