We theoretically investigate the optical output fields of a photonic-molecule optomechanical system in an optomechanically induced transparency (OMIT) regime, in which the optomechanical cavity is optically driven by a strong pump laser field and a weak probe laser field and the mechanical mode is driven by weak coherent phonon driving. The numerical simulations indicate that when the driven frequency of the phonon pump equals the frequency difference of the two laser fields, we show an enhancement OMIT where the probe transmission can exceed unity via controlling the driving amplitude and pump phase of the phonon driving. In addition, the phase dispersion of the transmitted probe field can be modified for different parametric regimes, which leads to a tunable delayed probe light transmission. We further study the group delay of the output probe field with numerical simulations, which can reach a tunable conversion from slow to fast light with the manipulation of the pump laser power, the ratio parameter of the two cavities, and the driving amplitude and phase of the weak phonon pump.

In order to improve the precision and beam quality of a pump laser for a spin exchange relaxation free inertial measurement device, we applied one scheme to achieve the square wave modulation and power stability control of the pump laser and another one to obtain the uniform intensity distribution of the laser beam, in which the acousto-optic modulator (AOM) and proportion integration differentiation (PID) controller were used to achieve the former, and the freeform surface lens was designed and optimized to achieve the latter based on the TracePro software. In experiments, the first-order diffraction light beam coming through the AOM had a spot size of about 1.1×0.7 mm2, and a spherical vapor cell with a radius of 7 mm was placed behind the freeform surface lens. Results show that the uniformity of the reshaped intensity distribution is higher than 90% within the target area with a radius of 7 mm both in the simulation and the experiment, which ensure that the uniform laser beam covers the area of cell. On the other hand, the power stability of the pump laser is controlled to be less than 0.05%. Compared with traditional methods, the complicated calculation process in optical design is better solved, and a higher uniformity with slight energy loss is achieved.

White laser with balanced performance of broad bandwidth, high average and peak power, large pulse energy, high spatial and temporal coherence, controllable spectrum profile, and overall chroma are highly desirable in various fields of modern science. Here, for the first time, we report an innovative scheme of harnessing the synergic action of both the second-order nonlinearity (2nd-NL) and the third-order nonlinearity (3rd-NL) in a single chirped periodically poled lithium niobate (CPPLN) nonlinear photonic crystal driven by a high-peak-power near-infrared (NIR) (central wavelength~1400 nm, energy~100 μJ per pulse) femtosecond pump laser to produce visible to near infrared (vis-NIR, 400-900 nm) supercontinuum white laser. The CPPLN involves a series of reciprocal-lattice bands that can be exploited to support quasiphase matching for simultaneous broadband second- and third-harmonic generations (SHG and THG) with considerable conversion efficiency. Due to the remarkable 3rd-NL which is due to the high energy density of the pump, SHG and THG laser pulses will induce significant spectral broadening in them and eventually generate bright vis-NIR white laser with high conversion efficiency up to 30%. Moreover, the spectral profile and overall chroma of output white laser can be widely modulated by adjusting the pump laser intensity, wavelength, and polarization. Our work indicates that one can deeply engineer the synergic and collective action of 2nd-NL and 3rd-NL in nonlinear crystals to accomplish high peak power, ultrabroadband vis-NIR white laser and hopefully realize the even greater but much more challenging dream of ultraviolet-visible-infrared full-spectrum laser.

This study looks at the three-level optical Stark effect of excitons in GaAs cylindrical quantum wires, utilizing the renormalized wave function theory. By applying the three-level model consisting of the first two electron levels connected via a powerful pump laser and the first hole level, we observe the appearance of the excitonic optical Stark effect through the appearance of two separated peaks in the exciton absorption spectra. In addition, the strong impact of the pump laser detuning and the wire radius on the optical Stark effect are also put under thorough examination. Finally, a brief guidance for experimental verification is also suggested.

Abstract Soliton microcombs provide a versatile platform for realizing fundamental studies and technological applications. To be utilized as frequency rulers for precision metrology, soliton microcombs must display broadband phase coherence, a parameter characterized by the optical phase or frequency noise of the comb lines and their corresponding optical linewidths. Here, we analyze the optical phase-noise dynamics in soliton microcombs and show that, because of the Raman self-frequency shift, the fundamental linewidth of some of the comb lines can, surprisingly, be narrower than the linewidth of the pump laser. This work elucidates information about the ultimate limits in phase coherence of soliton microcombs and illustrates a new strategy for the generation of spectrally coherent light on chip.

Using a fiber of that is 125 μm in diameter in rhodamine 6G ethanol solution, controllable multi- and single-whispering-gallery-mode (WGM) optofluidic lasers based on evanescent-wave-coupled gain are both available. With multi-mode WGM emission, lasing emission with almost pure TM (transverse magnetic) or almost TE (transverse electric) modes can be obtained when the pump laser has an electric field parallel (perpendicular) to the fiber axis, i.e., the polarization direction of output laser is the same as that of the pump laser. On the other hand, when the laser emission is single-mode, the TE output laser always emerges firstly above lasing threshold, then keeps TE mode while the pump laser’s intensity increases with polarization direction perpendicular to the fiber axis; on the contrary, TE emission will dwindle relatively, while the TM emission emerges and dominates the spectra, when the pump laser’s intensity increases with polarization parallel to the fiber axis. Our work proves that controlling the leakage of the evanescent wave from high-Q microcavities is crucial for both modes of lasing emission and its polarization.
