Objective: To compare the effects of gaze stability exercises with proprioception training to improve gait and functional independence in cerebellar ataxic patients. Methods: A Quasi experimental study was conducted in the physiotherapy department in Lahore General Hospital, Lahore, Pakistan from January 2018 to June 2018.All patients were diagnosed with cerebellar ataxia and referred by neurophysician to physiotherapy department. Forty-six (46) patients were divided into two equal groups by lottery method. (Group A =proprioception training), (Group B =gaze stability with proprioception training). Data was analyzed by using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) 21. Results: In group A, males were 13(56.5%) and females 10(43.5%) while in Group B, males were 12(52.2%) and females 11(47.8%). Mean ages were (71.3±8.47) years in Group A and (70±7.67) years in Group B. Pre and Post Functional Independence Measure (FIM)score in groups A and B with mean and standard deviation were 13.08±1.86 and 15.43±1.74 respectively. Pre and Post Timed Up and Go (TUG) test score in groups A and B with mean and standard deviation were 0.79± 0.26 and 0.97 ±0.39 respectively. Both groups were statistically significant (P value ≤ 0.05) but on the basis of mean ± standard deviation Group B method was more effective than Group A. Conclusion: Gaze stability exercises added the effects of proprioception training in improving gait and functional independence in cerebellar ataxic patients. Keywords: Cerebellar ataxia, gaze, patients, proprioception

Background. Diseases of the musculoskeletal system are the most common cause of disability in the modern world, and the prevalence of these diseases is increasing at an alarming rate. Currently, various types of arthroscopic operations on the knee joint are performed – for meniscus damage (including meniscus suture), instability of the knee joint, damage to the cruciate complex, articular cartilage, patellar instability, free joint bodies, pathological folds, synovitis, knee arthrosis, and rheumatoid arthritis. Medical rehabilitation after arthroscopic surgery traditionally includes administration of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, opioids, local anesthetics, therapeutic exercise using isometric active exercises, hydrokinesis therapy, and various physical therapy methods. Aim. Study of the use of physiotherapeutic methods in the treatment of patients who underwent atroscopic surgery on the knee joint in the physiotherapy department at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Republic of Tatarstan Clinical Hospital in 2018–2019. Material and methods. The frequency of prescription of therapeutic physical factors for patients who underwent arthroscopic surgeries on the knee joint at the physiotherapy department at the Medical Unit of Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Republic of Tatarstan Clinical Hospital in 2018–2019 was investigated. The patients were accordingly divided into two groups: in 2018, 37 patients were prescribed physiotherapeutic procedures, in 2019 there were 48 patients. The age of the patients in 2018 was (33,9±9,4) years, in 2019 it was (34,2±9,1) years. Statistica 6 software package by StatSoft was used for statistical processing. Differences were considered statistically significant at p<0,05. Results and discussion. Paraffin therapy, treatment using Nuga-Best bed, amplipulse therapy, UHF therapy, cryotherapy, oxygen cocktails containing medicinal herbs were prescribed with less frequency in the treatment of patients operated for knee joint injuries in 2018 than in 2019. Despite the proven effectiveness of whirlpool baths and darsonvalization in treating musculoskeletal disorders were not prescribed for the rehabilitation of patients who underwent atroscopic surgeries at the physiotherapy department of Medical Unit of Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Republic of Tatarstan Clinical Hospital in 2019. Conclusion. When rehabilitating patients who have undergone arthroscopic intervention on the knee joint, it is advisable to thoroughly consider the use of therapeutic physical factors to improve the operation of the physiotherapy department.

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a severe disease mostly affecting the respiratory system. Even after the acute symptoms of COVID-19 subside, there are many post acute symptoms that are still present in the COVID-19 survivors. Post-COVID-19 fatigue is seen to affect people of all age groups. This case report emphasises on the Physiotherapy view point. There are very few studies showing the benefits of Physiotherapy exercises in Post-COVID-19 manifestations. A 21-year-old female presented to physiotherapy department. An 8-week Physiotherapy protocol was given and outcomes were assessed before and after the treatment protocol. The presented symptoms were found to be relieved, thus, showing the effectiveness of Physiotherapy in Post- COVID-19 phase.

Venous thromboembolism is a major contributor to global disease burden and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Physiotherapists often encounter people who are at elevated risk of venous thromboembolism, and as such are a vital part of an interdisciplinary approach to the prevention and management venous thromboembolism. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, appropriate and accessible patient and clinician information resources regarding venous thromboembolism are of paramount importance, to facilitate safety netting and optimise health outcomes with minimal face-to-face contact. This article describes an interdisciplinary approach to the development of patient and clinician information resources within an acute hospital physiotherapy department in the UK. This was conducted with the intention of providing appropriate safety netting for patients at risk of lower extremity venous thromboembolism and to actively facilitate prevention, detection and early intervention.

BackgroundInternational hospital accreditation instruments, such as Joint Commission International (JCI) and Qmentum, focus mainly on hospital policy and procedures and do not specifically cover a profession such as hospital-based physiotherapy. This justifies the need for a quality system to which hospital-based physiotherapy can better identify, based on a common framework of quality indicators for effective quality management.ObjectiveThis study aimed to identify the most important quality indicators of a hospital-based physiotherapy department in the eyes of hospital-based physiotherapists and their managers.MethodsBased on input from three focus groups and a structured literature review, a first set of quality indicators for hospital physiotherapy was assembled. After checking this set for duplicates and for overlap with JCI and Qmentum, it formed the starting point of a modified Delphi procedure. In two rounds, 17 hospital-based physiotherapy experts rated the quality indicators on relevance through online surveys. In a final consensus meeting, quality indicators were established, classified in quality themes and operationalised by describing for each theme the rationale, specifications, domain and type of indicator.ResultsThree focus groups provided 120 potential indicators, which were complemented with 18 potential indicators based on literature. After duplicate and overlap check and the Delphi procedure, these 138 potential indicators were reduced to a set of 56 quality indicators for hospital-based physiotherapy. Finally, these 56 indicators were condensed into 7 composite indicators, each representing a quality theme based on definitions of the European Foundation for Quality Management.ConclusionA set of 56 quality indicators, condensed into 7 composite indicators each representing a quality theme, was developed to assess the quality of a hospital-based physiotherapy department.
