Background: Spleen is one of the largest lymphoid organs that are involved in haemopoitic function also during fetal life. Its anatomy is useful not only for Anatomist but also for Surgeons, Radiologists and Physicians. A lot of variations are observed in the spleen from its shape to size which is important to diagnose or treat the number of diseases. Methodology: This study was carried out on 60 spleens in the dissection hall of our medical college which were removed during routine undergraduate dissection. The parameters studies were shape of the spleen, number of notches (single or multiple), location of notches (Superior or inferior border), weight, breadth, width or length. Results: The 90% spleens has single notch. The weight of the spleens ranges from 89 gm to 220 gm with an average 142.6 gm. Range of breadth observed 3.5cm to7.4cm with an average 5.8cm, Range of width observed 2.8cm to 5.7cm with an average 4.1cm. Range of length observed 8.1cm to13.2cm with an average 11.7cm. Conclusion: Morphological variation is very common in spleen and varies according to the genetic, geographic, nutrition and work habits of individual and varies regions to regions of India. Morphological analysis is under reported and need to be carry out at different regions and places for obtaining more accurate data.

Deliveries in global supply chains are often made through lengthy shipping routes that are subject to many delays such as border crossings, inspections and so forth. Consequently, orders frequently crossover, that is, their order of arrival is not the same as the order that they were issued. In this paper we model a multiple location inventory system with Poisson demand and periodic review in which orders may crossover. The system’s performance measure is the window fill rate, i.e., the probability that a customer arriving to the system is served within her tolerable wait. We show that when spares are scarce the system’s overall performance decreases if spares are allotted equitably. Additionally, we show that there is a linear tradeoff between the tolerable wait and the number of spares needed to maintain a given performance level. The observations have practical implications to inventory mangers. First, that when resources are scarce it is optimal to cluster spares to only few locations. In contrast, when resources are abundant, then a more equitable solution is optimal. Second, that it is possible to design simple contracts that reward customers for their patience, or alternatively, that charge customers a premium for expedited service.

Internet-based communication technologies can reduce both carbon emissions and financial costs of academic conferences for individual participants—especially those from non-rich countries. We consider currently available technological solutions and logistic formats. In July 2018, we organized the leading international conference on music cognition (ICMPC15/ESCOM10) as a multiple-location, semi-virtual event with hubs on four continents (Europe, North America, South America, Australia) and 600 active participants. Every talk was live-streamed to YouTube (unlisted with URLs accessible only to registered participants) and seen by two audiences (local, remote). Remote presentations were either real-time or delayed. Discussions were two-way audiovisual (Zoom). Student assistants managed the technology. The 24-hour program ran for five days, with normal working hours at each hub. Most (61%) participants approved of the semi-virtual format. Greenhouse-gas emissions per participant were reduced by 60–70% relative to an equivalent single-location conference. No talk was delayed or canceled for technical reasons. A semi-virtual, multiple-location approach improves the globality, cultural diversity, and accessibility of academic conferences. That in turn improves the relevance and long-term quality of academic content. In future, emissions and international time-difference problems can be further reduced by increasing the number of hubs. Every academic conference, regardless of size, discipline, or country, can benefit from live-streaming some or all presentations. Conference participants and organizers can contribute to global mitigation efforts while at the same time promoting their academic disciplines by taking advantage of modern internet communication technologies. Video recordings of talks contribute to documentation and dissemination.
