Nursing Informatics Competency After Experiencing Simulated Electronic Health Records: Descriptive Study

Nursing has embraced flexible online advanced education as a means of increasing the supply of nurse professionals. Virtual simulation and other adaptive learning technologies enhance learning efficiency and student outcomes. A simulated electronic health record (DocuCare) was adopted in an online graduate nursing informatics course. An assignment using DocuCare to learn core concepts of nursing informatics was developed for graduate students enrolled in a nursing informatics course. A validated standard informatics survey instrument was used to measure three individual domains (basic computer skills, roles, and advanced computer skills (clinical informatics)) as well as the combined informatics competency level. Overall, the nursing informatics competency level was between competent and proficient; basic computer skills and roles were above proficient; and advanced computer skills (clinical informatics) fell between competence and proficient levels.

Mind the Wikidata Gap

Wikidata, a community-curated knowledge base related to Wikipedia, affects our access to information, wielding more power than many realize. Seeing an opportunity for improving access to knowledge and promoting their collections, libraries, archives, and other cultural heritage institutions have been experimenting with Wikidata in various ways. One burgeoning area of activity is in Wikidata’s scholarly citation data, but that participation has largely concentrated in the sciences, leaving a gap in its theological and religious studies coverage. This presentation demonstrates how this gap matters to theological libraries and shows how you can contribute to efforts to fill it, even in small ways. Delving into Wikidata can be intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. As long as you have basic computer skills, you can find a way to participate.

Computer skills of health workers in rural Ghana and their use of social media: Implications for increased use of information technology in service delivery

Background: Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have improved the delivery of healthcare worldwide especially in disease control, patient management, and health data analysis. However, access to infrastructure like computers and knowledge of ICT is a major problem to various digital health initiatives among health professionals. Objective: The aim of the present study was, to assess healthcare workers' basic computer skills and use of social media and identify specific deficiencies that require training to help them function effectively. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study among 51 healthcare workers in seven health centers in a region in Ghana over three months using a self-administered pre-tested questionnaire. Results: Half of the participants had adequate basic computer skills, of which 60.87% were women (P=0.0205). Only 15.69%, who were all males, of participants used computer software at least once a month. Most participants also used Facebook and WhatsApp. Conclusion: Health professionals in the health centers need to be trained on basic computer skills and, information technology should be incorporated into the health systems for efficient health delivery.

EPSS – METHOD AND TOOLS FOR IMPROVING THE COMPETENCE IN THE XXI CENTURY

The paper discusses the features and usability of Electronic Performance Support Systems (EPSS) in education and improving the competence of adults. It is a serious problem for enterprises to search for employees (definite period, employment of students) for work that requires the use of business software. Learning (training) in the performance of tasks in such environment is an investment (requires time and expense). EPSS have been designed as tools to reduce the number of hours of training involving a trainer (human). These systems are coached - supported by people who use business software in their work on an ongoing basis. In the research we present how to implement them and in which way their popularization can help in hiring people without special pre-preparation, and only with the basic computer skills.
