The authorship identification task aims at identifying the original author of an anonymous text sample from a set of candidate authors. It has several application domains such as digital text forensics and information retrieval. These application domains are not limited to a specific language. However, most of the authorship identification studies are focused on English and limited attention has been paid to Urdu. However, existing Urdu authorship identification solutions drop accuracy as the number of training samples per candidate author reduces and when the number of candidate authors increases. Consequently, these solutions are inapplicable to real-world cases. Moreover, due to the unavailability of reliable POS taggers or sentence segmenters, all existing authorship identification studies on Urdu text are limited to the word n-grams features only. To overcome these limitations, we formulate a stylometric feature space, which is not limited to the word n-grams feature only. Based on this feature space, we use an authorship identification solution that transforms each text sample into a point set, retrieves candidate text samples, and relies on the nearest neighbors classifier to predict the original author of the anonymous text sample. To evaluate our solution, we create a significantly larger corpus than existing studies and conduct several experimental studies that show that our solution can overcome the limitations of existing studies and report an accuracy level of 94.03%, which is higher than all previous authorship identification works.

Semantic word similarity is a quantitative measure of how much two words are contextually similar. Evaluation of semantic word similarity models requires a benchmark corpus. However, despite the millions of speakers and the large digital text of the Urdu language on the Internet, there is a lack of benchmark corpus for the Cross-lingual Semantic Word Similarity task for the Urdu language. This article reports our efforts in developing such a corpus. The newly developed corpus is based on the SemEval-2017 task 2 English dataset, and it contains 1,945 cross-lingual English–Urdu word pairs. For each of these pairs of words, semantic similarity scores were assigned by 11 native Urdu speakers. In addition to corpus generation, this article also reports the evaluation results of a baseline approach, namely “Translation Plus Monolingual Analysis” for automated identification of semantic similarity between English–Urdu word pairs. The results showed that the path length similarity measure performs better for the Google and Bing translated words. The newly created corpus and evaluation results are freely available online for further research and development.

Pandemic era stressed the lecturer to create innovative learning process. The article aimed to show up the benefit of hot potatoes in online learning. Hot potatoes is one  of applications which consists of 6 tools in making interactive exercises. They are J Quiz, J Cross, J Cloze, J Mix, J Match, the masher. It helps lecturer managed exercises based digital text.  It can used on offline. This article used research and development by Addie. There are five steps in Addie model. They are Analysis, design, develop, implementation, and evaluation. Data found that hot potatoes supported students in learning process. They more enjoy in completed the exercises on hot potatoes. Digital text used is decreasing the using of hardcopy, it help students saving the cost.

Abstract During the early 1970s, the Sahel suffered from drought and famine. Previous research has emphasized how these factors weakened West African states. The drought, however, provided an opportunity for a transnational river organization in the Senegal River basin (the OMVS) to obtain financing for an integrated development program. Wall shows how the OMVS leveraged concern about famine to obtain funding. She uses digital text analysis to demonstrate institutional priorities shifting to focus on agriculture. This combination of document analysis with digital methods demonstrates how famine strengthened a multi-state organization, requiring a revision of how this event affected African political capacity.

Based on Éva Pócs’ manual charm index an online database was created for Hungarian verbal charms within the East–West Research Group at the Institute of Ethnology, Hungarian Academy of Sciences (Budapest), between 2013 and 2018. The main goal was to create a multidimensional digital database. Digital text preparation would open the gates to new interpretations and analyses, which would bring us closer to understanding the compound and complex phenomena of charms. In the Digital Database of Hungarian Verbal Charms users can search by various metadata, like date and place of collection/recording, name of collector/scribe, informant, type of source, function of the charm, rites/gestures, language of the text, keywords etc. This paper focuses on how different new arrangements and distant reading of the corpora can reshape our knowledge about the Hungarian verbal charms.

Upon the understanding of Applied Linguistics as an indisciplinary field of inquiry that aims to create intelligibility regarding language-centered social problems (MOITA LOPES, 2006), this article introduces a pedagogical instrument, a Critical Multiliteracies Thematic Project, as a means to develop learners’ critical social agency. The nature of this educational project derives from the pedagogy of critical sociointeractional literacy (TILIO, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2015), whose understanding of language teaching permeates notions of citizenship that defy hegemonic discourses by prompting the analysis of themes and language, and the adoption of a constant critical stance. As the pedagogical project in focus situates its practices through alternative Brazilian female voices, students of an extension English course are led to respond to the multiple discourses on gender-imbricated matters that dwells their social horizons (VOLÓCHINOV, 2017 [1929]). Hence, by investigating the dialogue established between the project and a student, this article intends to contribute to the production of knowledge on social life. In order to do so, we selected a task that integrates the project and a multimodal digital text produced by a student in response to the project. We close off the article by framing the relevance of ethically committed language education in promoting learners’ transforming practices.

In this paper we introduce Spyral, a notebook environment that works in tandem with Voyant Tools. Voyant Tools is an online digital text analysis environment. Spyral notebooks extend Voyant and allow users to create JavaScript online notebooks with both text and code cells. These notebooks are designed to allow for collaboration between scholars. We also discuss both the possibilities and some limitations of the notebook environment. We provide examples of both tutorial notebooks that can be used for pedagogical purposes as well as examples of Spyral notebooks used in collaborative analysis. Finally, we suggest potential areas for further development for Spyral.

Abstract With the development of digital technology, Computer technology, communication technology and multimedia technology gradually infiltrate into each other and become the main core of information technology. In information technology, digital, text, graphics, images, sound, video, animation and other information carriers are spread through computers and the Internet. Due to the openness, sharing, dynamic and other characteristics of the Internet, information security is threatened and interfered. Information security has become a strategic issue that people must pay attention to, which is related to social stability, economic development and national security. This paper studies a new kind of virtual track cryptography, which breaks through the traditional character memory method and transforms it into memory graphics by using mathematical modeling, and changes the surface memory method from memorizing numbers and characters to memorizing trajectory graphics, so as to make the traditional process of people memorizing passwords easier.

There were several epochs in history that have altered the life of mankind. The first epoch was when the oral text was written down. The second was when the German scribe Guttenberg invented the printing press, and the handwritten text became printed. Now text is becoming digital, and there is a natural digitalization of all spheres of human activity, including the legacy of Dostoevsky. Modern information technologies create a new type of text that not only preserves the advantages of oral, handwritten and printed text, but also acquires new capabilities. The digital text expands the range of sources, the volume of information, and stimulates new methods of studying the writer's creative work. Despite the fact that electronic libraries, which currently dominate the Internet, present digital copies of Dostoevsky's printed publications, new types of electronic publications and new tools for analyzing not only handwritten and printed, but also digital text, are emerging. The idea of Digital Dostoevsky is being implemented in Petrozavodsk University projects (since 1995), the Institute of Russian Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences (since 2016), and the University of Toronto (since 2019). Lexicographic work on Dostoevsky's vocabulary is being carried out in digital format at the Russian Language Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The article provides an overview and outlines the prospects for the development of Digital Dostoevsky. An important task of the global Digital Dostoevsky is the creation of national bibliographies and electronic libraries and publication of new sources related to the writer's life and work. It is necessary to create the conditions for optimizing and integrating the existing resources. The digital format allows to actively use new text analysis tools and information technology capabilities for research and educational purposes.
