The risk of low-back pain in manual material handling could potentially be reduced by back-support exoskeletons. Preferably, the level of exoskeleton support relates to the required muscular effort, and therefore should be proportional to the moment generated by trunk muscle activities. To this end, a regression-based prediction model of this moment could be implemented in exoskeleton control. Such a model must be calibrated to each user according to subject-specific musculoskeletal properties and lifting technique variability through several calibration tasks. Given that an extensive calibration limits the practical feasibility of implementing this approach in the workspace, we aimed to optimize the calibration for obtaining appropriate predictive accuracy during work-related tasks, i.e., symmetric lifting from the ground, box stacking, lifting from a shelf, and pulling/pushing. The root-mean-square error (RMSE) of prediction for the extensive calibration was 21.9 Nm (9% of peak moment) and increased up to 35.0 Nm for limited calibrations. The results suggest that a set of three optimally selected calibration trials suffice to approach the extensive calibration accuracy. An optimal calibration set should cover each extreme of the relevant lifting characteristics, i.e., mass lifted, lifting technique, and lifting velocity. The RMSEs for the optimal calibration sets were below 24.8 Nm (10% of peak moment), and not substantially different than that of the extensive calibration.

Cemento-ossifying fibroma (also known as ossifying fibroma or cementifying fibroma) is a benign osteogenic neoplasm. Pain and paresthesia are rarely associated with cemento-ossifying fibroma; thus, nerves must be preserved during excision. With the advent of computer-aided techniques, the use of virtual surgical planning and a customized template can improve the precision of resection and reconstruction, reduce operating time, and improve postoperative outcomes. In this report, we describe a case of cemento-ossifying fibroma in a female patient who underwent segmental mandibulectomy and reconstruction with an iliac bone graft. Additionally, we describe a simple and effective way to preserve the inferior alveolar nerve.

<div>In this paper, we address the problem of computing the dimension of data space in phase retrieval problem. Starting from the quadratic formulation of the phase retrieval, the analysis is performed in two steps. First, we exploit the lifting technique to obtain a linear representation of the data. Later, we evaluate the dimension of data space by computing analytically the number of relevant singular values of the linear operator that represents the data. The study is done with reference to a 2D scalar geometry consisting of an electric current strip whose square amplitude of the electric radiated field is observed on a two-dimensional extended domain in Fresnel zone.</div>

Purpose To investigate if lumbar and lower limb kinematics or kinetics are different between groups with and without a history of LBP during lifting. Secondly, to investigate relationships between biomechanical variables and pain ramp during repeated lifting. Methods 21 LBP and 20 noLBP participants completed a 100-lift task, where lumbar and lower limb kinematics and kinetics were measured during lifting, with a simultaneous report of LBP intensity every 10 lifts. Lifts were performed in a laboratory setting, limiting ecological validity. Results The LBP group used a different lifting technique to the noLBP group at the beginning of the task (slower and more squat-like). Kinetic differences at the beginning included less peak lumbar external anterior shear force and greater peak knee power demonstrated by the LBP group. However, at the end of the task, both groups lifted with a much more similar technique that could be classified as more stoop-like and faster. Peak knee power remained greater in the LBP group throughout and was the only kinetic difference between groups at the end of the lifting task. While both groups lifted using a more comparable technique at the end, the LBP group still demonstrated a tendency to perform a slower and more squat-like lift throughout the task. Only one of 21 variables (pelvic tilt at box lift-off), was associated with pain ramp in the LBP group. Conclusions: Workers with a history of LBP, lift with a style that is slower and more squat-like than workers without any history of LBP. Common assumptions that LBP is associated with lumbar kinematics or kinetics such as greater lumbar flexion or greater forces were not observed in this study, raising questions about the current paradigm around ‘safe lifting’.

Objective: To described a needle renal lifting technique using an 18-gauge needle to adjunct ureterorenoscopy (URS) in the management of complicated proximal ureteral stones. Case(s) Presentation: A 46 years old man presented with right flank pain for 1 month. This patient was diagnosed with ureteral stone and ureteral kinking that prohibits access to the proximal side of the ureter. Due to difficult access to the proximal ureter, we perform a needle renal lifting technique which is initialized by puncturing the middle renal calyx with 18-gauge needle. Then, the proximal end of the needle was pushed to the caudal direction to move the kidney to the cephalic direction and straighten the kinked ureter. After that procedure, the URS sheat can easily enter the proximal ureter to the stone site. Discussion: The success rate of this procedure is based on the operator skills to access the calyx and perform URS simultaneously. Like a previous technique, needle renal lifting is effective only when the kidney is mobile. Conclusion: The needle renal lifting technique can be used to adjunct URS in the management of complicated ureteral stones which prohibited access to the proximal ureter.

In this paper, the question of evaluating the dimension of data space in an inverse source problem from near-field phaseless data is addressed. The study is developed for a 2D scalar geometry made up by a magnetic current strip whose square magnitude of the radiated field is observed in near non-reactive zone on multiple lines parallel to the source. With the aim of estimating the dimension of data space, at first, the lifting technique is exploited to recast the quadratic model as a linear one. After, the singular values decomposition of such linear operator is introduced. Finally, the dimension of data space is evaluated by quantifying the number of “relevant” singular values. In the last part of the article, some numerical simulations that corroborate the analytical estimation of data space dimension are shown.
