Maroie de Diergnau is a recognized thirteenth-century woman trouvère to whom one song has been attributed. This article argues that another Old French lyric, Jherusalem grant damage (RS 191, L 265–939), found in the Chansonnier du roi (Paris, Bibliothèque nationale de France, fr. 844, known as trouvère chansonnier M) should also be attributed to the songstress.

The study focuses on current problems associated with the evolution of absolute participial construction and its linguistic status in the French language. It has been established that, borrowed from classical Latin, the absolute construction with an ablative was accepted to the Old French language, presumably in the 13 th –14 th centuries thanks to translations from the Latin language. Widely used in literature, the construction caused disputes among grammarians and only at the beginning of the 20 th century it was recognized as normative. In the second part of the article, a review of the Russian and foreign scientific literature is made, the most controversial issues and the author's own position based on corpus data are formulated. The properties inherent in all types of absolute participial constructions are determined: binarity, semantic duality, expression of predominantly temporary, causal meaning or value of an accompanying action, mobility, syntactic optionality in relation to a matrix sentence, the possibility of functioning only as part of a complex sentence. It was revealed that this construction is an economical formal way of expressing a proposition based on a secondary predicative connection. The features of constructions with present participles, past participles and complex past participles are analyzed. The conclusion is made about the need for a differentiated approach to the analysis of these types of absolute structures. The prospect of further studies of linguistic structures is shown.

This contribution aims to offer new insights into the context of the manuscript Paris, Bibliothèque nationale de France, fr. 1822. Keith Busby has recently ascribed this miscellany of Old French moral texts (sole witness of Jofroi de Waterford’s translations) to the Irish city of Waterford. The paper discusses this hypothesis, focusing on the codicological and historical aspects of the manuscripts. Moreover, the article presents my research on the (probably Anglo-Norman) redaction of the Livre de Moralitez transmitted by the codex.

Abstract International arbitration notion contains to be commercial and to be international together, different from national arbitration notion. To be international criterion is to the fullest extent arranged in old French CPC art. 1492, which contains also French Arbitration Code. According to this article which is protected by 13 January 2011 reform; arbitration which is about international commercial benefit is an international arbitration. In 1992 French Arbitration Commitee prepared a report with the name of “Perspectives for İmprovement of French Arbitration Law”. The amendements of the directive of 13 January 2011 is neither a revolution nor an easy make up but it is a real reform which can be known as by the words clarity, definiteness, flexibility, freedom of choice, effectuality and speediness. The reform of 2011 did not changed the liberal structure of the French international arbitration law which is stand by freedom of contract and limited only by public policy. Abstract Background Late complications and longer-lasting sequelae of COVID-19 infection in adults can occur. Cardiovascular involvement including reduced ejection fraction, coronary artery aneurysms, and pericardial involvement have been reported. Prompt recognition is the first step and secondly, these cardiovascular phenomena require an alternative set of therapeutics from the standard of care for acute COVID-19 infection. Case presentation Here we describe two cases that fulfill the current case definition of the recently defined multisystem inflammatory syndrome in adults (MIS-A). One patient is a 27-year-old white female and the other a 21-year-old French creole male, both without any prior medical history. Both were hospitalized and found to have significant cardiac dysfunction and treated with IVIG, high dose aspirin, and corticosteroids with resolution of their acute illnesses and cardiac sequelae. Conclusion Not only does the immediate impact of this viral infection need to be addressed, but also the long-term complications that could arise if not recognized and treated promptly as seen in our two cases. Patients can develop acute cardiovascular collapse and cardiogenic shock which requires high level of care and treatment within an intensive care unit. Depending on the complications, patients may require treatment for congestive heart failure, pericarditis, or even coronary artery disease acutely with close follow up to ensure improvement or resolution.

This article presents the miniatures in the art of rhetoric of a fifteenth-century French manuscript, Plimpton MS 281 (Columbia University, Rare Book and Manuscript Library). The text is Brunetto Latini’s Tresor, a thirteenth-century compilation written in Old French on the art of government. The iconography of Plimpton MS 281 seems to be new with regard to the art of rhetoric and to be intended for a legal milieu. By studying the images from the point of view of the history of the text, the aim is to understand what might have caused a change in the iconography of the art of rhetoric.

Abstract Normally, verbs showing allomorphy due to phonological changes become more regular over time through intraparadigmatic analogy. There are verbs, though, such as auxiliaries, modals or basic verbs of movement which stay irregular, obviously due to their extremely high token frequency. Especially studies with reference to Germanic languages show that irregularity often relates to a development leading to a clear(er) distinction of single forms within a paradigm. The article examines the applicability of the concept of relevance developped by Bybee (1985), the significance of token frequency and other factors discussed in studies anchored in the usage based approach with regard to the French and Italian verbs aller/andare, venir/venire and – for Old French – ester (cf. the suppletive paradigm of être) and Italian stare, considering the development from Latin to modern French and Italian.

Abstract This article investigates the usage of Old Nordic supernatural concepts in the Old Norse translations of Old French and Anglo-Norman chivalric romances and courtly lais from the twelfth to fourteenth centuries. This paper focuses on the usage of the term dvergr as a translation for the Old French nain, reflecting not only the narrative purposes involved in the choice of this word as a translation, but also the possible consequences it could have had on Icelandic folk belief when these works were read out loud alongside other works that formed part of Icelandic literature and Icelandic oral tradition.
