Belisario Domínguez was a Mexican physician, ophthalmologist, and politician. He traveled abroad to France, where he studied High School, later he entered the School of Medicine at Sorbonne University in Paris. Back in Mexico, Domínguez installed his medical office in his house. Belisario was recognized for his philanthropic attitude, he also often sought the well-being being of Chiapas and Mexico. In 1911 he became Comitán Municipal President, after the overthrown of presidente Porfirio Díaz. He witnessed the coup against President Francisco Madero by General Huerta. Belisario wrote a speech in which he expressed the shame of having a traitor and murderer as President. As consequence of the speech, he was killed. After Belisario's assassination, an outrage was incited, damaging the image of President Huerta. Belisario's civic value was honored with a medal that bears his name “ Belisario Domínguez Medal” in 1953 which is the greatest recognition that can be obtained by a Mexican.

Abstract This photo essay examines key events in the career of physician-activist Tolbert Small, a doctor for the Black Panther Party and one of the first American doctors to practice acupuncture. It features the historic 1972 Black Panther Party delegation to China where Small first learned about acupuncture, as well as the Harriet Tubman Medical Office where he incorporated acupuncture into his practice.

On the 5th of March this year in the chapel at the forensic medical office Kazan. An autopsy was carried out at the University of the university, the suddenly deceased Vilensk burgher Iosif A.N.


Background: Hypertension is a major health problem that physicians have to face globally. It is known as the most important risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Objectives: This study searched for the prevalence of hypertension among the residents of Cyprus. Methods: The study involved 195 patients with or without treatment for arterial hypertension with age ranged among 34-93 years, patients examined and followed for 2 years at the medical office. Hypertension was defined as Systolic blood pressure (SBP) ≥ 140 and/or Diastolic blood pressure (DBP) ≥ 90mm Hg. Data were analysed using statistics. Results: The overall prevalence of hypertension was 38.1% (male 42.7% and female 33.4%). The mean age of the respondents was 66.6 ± 12.4 years. 26.8% of the patients who enrolled in the study were obese. Alcohol and tobacco use were found in 33.2% and 42.2% of the population studied. Hypertension was significantly associated in age groups 45-85 years, and also being overweight or obese. Conclusion: The above data show a high prevalence of hypertension, even in patients under anti-hypertensive treatment. Policy makers should study the need for further awareness at the primary sector preventively and implement interventions for early detection and care of hypertension, in early stage.

Acoustical privacy and noise control design and implementation guidance is needed, regarding Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI) criteria for outpatient medical facilty tenant improvements (TI). TI in existing commercial buildings or medical office buildings may not have capital budgets or expected facility/lease life that hospitals enjoy. Full conformance to FGI criteria and guidelines may be limited; by economic feasibility and by constructability. Design professionals can use "good practice" space planning, demising assembly selection, and electronic sound masking to achieve appropriate acoustical privacy within reasonable capital expense budgets. Consider FGI criteria for demising partition, ceiling, door and window selections plus infrastructure equipment and material selections that can provide cost-effective lightweight, common construction standards. The objectives are to protect the privacy of patient information and provide quiet spaces, free of transient disturbance for clear speech communications. Continuous ambient sound increases speech privacy including speech transmitted from enclosed quiet spaces. Criteria for acoustics, speech privacy,continuous noise and masking exists in FGI. Temporal level changes (on/off, transients) and tonality (spectrum smoothness or balance) should be considered in basis-of-design (BoD). This paper will present design guidelines for selecting demising assemblies and supplemental sound masking for outpatient clinical spaces in commercial or medical office buildings.

Background: Safety culture is considered one of the most crucial premises for further development of patient care in healthcare. During the eight-year economic crisis (2010–2018), Greece made significant reforms in the way the primary health care system operates, aiming at the more efficient operation of the system without degrading issues of safety and quality of the provided health services. In this context, this study aims to validate a specialized tool—the Medical Office Survey on Patient Safety Culture (MOSPSC)—developed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to evaluate primary care settings in terms of safety culture and quality. Methods: Factor analysis determined the correlation of the factor structure in Greek data with the original questionnaire. The relation of the factor analysis with the Cronbach’s coefficient alpha was also determined, including the construct validity. Results: Eight composites with 34 items were extracted by exploratory factor analysis, with acceptable Cronbach’s alpha coefficients and good construct validity. Consequently, the composites jointly explained 62% of the variance in the responses. Five items were removed from the original version of the questionnaire. As a result, three out of the eight composites were a mixture of items from different compounds of the original tool. The composition of the five factors was similar to that in the original questionnaire. Conclusions: The MOSPSC tool in Greek primary healthcare settings can be used to assess patient safety culture in facilities across the country. From the study, the patient safety culture in Greece was positive, although few composites showed a negative correlation and needed improvement.

The specific goal of this project is to model the energy performance of a medical office building in Carrier HAP and NRCan EE4 simulation software in order to qualify for LEED Canada energy and atmosphere perquisite 2 and credit 1. LEED Canada requires that to be eligible for EAp2 and EAc1, the proposed building must be 25% more energy efficient than a reference building which is designed according to Model National Energy Code for Buildings (MNECB). The demise of EE4 has created a demanding need to look for substitute software. One of the tasks of the project is to analyze HAP for EAp2 and EAc1 compliance process. EE4 generates the MNECB reference building itself but in HAP the reference building has to be modelled manually. The results from HAP and EE4 show that energy savings are 39.10% and 38.31% respectively with respect to MNECB reference building.

Abstract Background The rapid technical development and portability of ultrasound systems over recent years has had a profound impact on the area of point-of-care-ultrasound (POCUS), both in general medicine and in obstetrics and gynecology. The use of POCUS enables the clinician to perform the ultrasound scan either at the medical office or the patient’s bedside and used as an extension of the physical examination. Real-time images can immediately be correlated with the patient’s symptoms, and any changes in a (critical) patient’s condition can be more rapidly detected. POCUS in OBGYN POCUS is also suitable for time-critical scenarios, and depending on the situation and its dynamics, the course and results of any therapy may be observed in real time. POCUS should be considered to be a routine extension of practice for most OB/GYN clinicians as it can give immediate answers to what could be life-threatening situations for the mother and/or baby. With its proven usefulness, the applications and use of POCUS should be incorporated in teaching programs for medical students, OBGYN residents and emergency physicians.
