Testbeds for wireless IoT devices facilitate testing and validation of distributed target nodes. A testbed usually provides methods to control, observe, and log the execution of the software. However, most of the methods used for tracing the execution require code instrumentation and change essential properties of the observed system. Methods that are non-intrusive are typically not applicable in a distributed fashion due to a lack of time synchronization or necessary hardware/software support. In this article, we present a tracing system for validating time-critical software running on multiple distributed wireless devices that does not require code instrumentation, is non-intrusive and is designed to trace the distributed state of an entire network. For this purpose, we make use of the on-chip debug and trace hardware that is part of most modern microcontrollers. We introduce a testbed architecture as well as models and methods that accurately synchronize the timestamps of observations collected by distributed observers. In a case study, we demonstrate how the tracing system can be applied to observe the distributed state of a flooding-based low-power communication protocol for wireless sensor networks. The presented non-intrusive tracing system is implemented as a service of the publicly accessible open source FlockLab 2 testbed.

In this study, we explore how clinical decision support features can be designed to aid teams in caring for patients during time-critical medical emergencies. We interviewed 12 clinicians with experience in leading pediatric trauma resuscitations to elicit design requirements for decision support alerts and how these alerts should be designed for teams with shared leadership. Based on the interview data, we identified three types of decision support alerts: reminders to perform tasks, alerts to changes in patient status, and suggestions for interventions. We also found that clinicians perceived alerts in this setting as coordination mechanisms and that some alert preferences were associated with leader experience levels. From these findings, we contribute three perspectives on how alerts can aid coordination and discuss implications for designing decision support alerts for shared leadership in time-critical medical processes.

An oncological emergency may be the initial presentation of a cancer, a sign of cancer progression, or a complication of cancer treatment. The most frequently encountered paediatric oncological emergencies include neutropenic sepsis, hyperleukocytosis, brain tumours presenting with raised intracranial pressure, tumour lysis syndrome and superior mediastinal syndrome. These are all life-threatening conditions that require urgent recognition and management. Health professionals working in an emergency department (ED) are likely to be involved in managing these children. This article brings together the current guidance and recommendations for these specific emergencies. It also includes two case studies that demonstrate the challenges health professionals can face while managing these situations. It is important that health professionals have an acute awareness of oncological emergencies. Confidence in recognising the presentations, diagnoses and initial management are essential because these conditions may be life-threatening and time critical.

E-commerce retailers face the challenge to assemble a large number of time-critical picking orders. Common parts-to-picker autonomous intelligent warehouses such as automated vehicle storage and retrieval system and robotic mobile fulfillment system are often a little ill-suited for these prerequisites. A mixed-robotic fulfillment system is a hybrid robot picking system based on multi-device collaboration. It is a fusion innovation of traditional automated vehicle storage and retrieval system and robotic mobile fulfillment system. This paper comprehensively considers the characteristics of the system and customer demand, through the construction of a queuing network model to evaluate the performance of the system. A series of problems such as order service time, throughput capacity, and vehicle quantity configuration are analyzed experimentally. The validity of the model is verified by a simulation model.

AbstractThe spontaneous cycloaddition of tetrazines with a number of different dienophiles has become a powerful tool in chemical biology, in particular for the biocompatible conjugation and modification of (bio)molecules. The exceptional reaction kinetics made these bioorthogonal ligations the methods of choice for time-critical processes at very low concentrations, facilitating controlled molecular transformations in complex environments and even in vivo. The emerging concept of bond-cleavage reactions triggered by tetrazine-based cycloadditions enabled the design of diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. The tetrazine-triggered activation of prodrugs represents the first bioorthogonal reaction performed in humans, marking the beginning of the era of clinical translation of bioorthogonal chemistry. This chapter provides an overview of the synthesis and reactivity of tetrazines, their cycloadditions with various dienophiles, and transformations triggered by these reactions, focusing on reaction mechanisms, kinetics and efficiency, and selected applications.

Abstract Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) is an emerging technology, which enables advancements in applications like industrial automation, automatic vehicle-to-vehicle communication, etc. which hosts various time-critical applications, ensuring bounded latency. The novel idea of this paper is to present OMNET++ simulation-based complex multi-hop TSN network using the native VLAN concept to bring out a cost-effective model for inter-TSN and Intra-TSN domains. This paper investigates the performance of hybrid IEEE standards, ie.IEEE 802.1Qbu and IEEE 802.1Qbv standards. The simulation results show that the combination of these standards, when effectively scheduled in switches will reduce the latency by 3.3 µseconds in time-critical applications. Further, it is observed that in Best effort traffic, frame loss is also very less in the range of 2-5 frames out of 1385 frames. These results certainly will be of great value in more complex TSN deployments.

Atheism is a major topic of discussion in modern time. Critical study of Contemporary atheist literature is a bona-fide task for the emerging researchers for the decontamination of Muslim youth. On the basis of Rationality, Empiricism and critical thinking, brains are draining toward the realm of non-religions. Every person born on the nature of Islam but onward adopt the prevailing doctrines. In the past century an overwhelming critique has been put in academic field by the new atheists in favouring atheism in masquerading by science. Science has nothing to do with supernatural or metaphysical phenomena. Atheism is being attributed to modernity. Considering overwhelming scientific attacks by contemporary atheist, it is the need of the hour to tackle account seriously and use Islamic doctrine to cope the penetrating insurgency of atheist through in Islamic world. Stephen hawking (late) is a famous theoretical physicist and has imparted a valuable influential thoughts regarding origin of time, origin of universe and other hot cosmological and physical issues. Brief answers to the big questions are his last compilation. He argues that for interpretation of origin of Universe nothing has to be with personal God. Instead of attributing God, he attributes the laws of nature for the origin of universe. He argues that it was “time” that causes the universe to begin. He mixed up mythical accounts with the creation accounts as described by the revelation of different religions. In first chapter, he focused on the question: Is there a God? He deliberately asked the question and mentioned that science has the capacity to answer that very question. He argues that before creation of universe God does not have “time” to initiate or trigger and creation process and hence God does not exit. Hawking arguments regarding origin of Universe and existence of God has been critically analysed.

Perinatal trials sometimes require rapid recruitment processes to facilitate inclusion of participants when interventions are time-critical. A two-stage consent pathway has been used in some trials and is supported by national guidance. This pathway includes seeking oral assent for participation during the time-critical period followed by informed written consent later. This approach is being used in the fluids exclusively enteral from day one (FEED1) trial where participants need to be randomised within 3 hours of birth. There is some apprehension about approaching parents for participation via the oral assent pathway. The main reasons for this are consistent with previous research: lack of a written record, lack of standardised information and unfamiliarity with the process. Here, we describe how the pathway has been implemented in the FEED1 trial and the steps the trial team have taken to support sites. We provide recommendations for future trials to consider if they are considering implementing a similar pathway. Trial registration number: ISRCTN89654042.

The work is devoted to modeling electromechanical transients when powered from a local source. The object of the study is TKG-1 «Pervomayskaya CHPP», LLC «Shchekinoazot». The time critical for maintaining the initial mode of power interruption is obtained when the design conditions are varied. The problem of evaluating the success of self-launching is programmatically solved in Matlab.

Blasting is an unavoidable activity in geotechnical engineering, road and tunnel construction, and mining and quarrying. However, this activity can expose the environment to various hazards that are challenging to control and, at the same time, critical for the safety of site workers, equipment, and surrounding structures. This research aims to evaluate the ability of sand–tire shred mixtures to reduce peak blast pressure, which is the leading cause of damage to underground structures under surface explosion. ABAQUS software is used to model the material behavior under explosion and is validated using the results of previous studies and an empirical equation. Different scenarios are created by using mixture layers with different thicknesses (2, 4, and 6 m) and tire shred contents (10%, 20%, and 30%) that are subjected to various surface explosion charges (100, 500, 1000, and 5000 kg). The thickness of the mixture layer is found to be directly related to the dissipation of explosion energy. However, the percentage of the rubber content in the mixture is only significant in reducing peak blast pressure when a thick enough mixture layer is used. The results confirm the adequate performance of the correctly chosen sand–tire shred mixtures in reducing peak blast pressure and protecting the underground structure from surface explosion hazards.
