ABSTRACT A setup for ion-laser interaction was coupled to the state-of-the-art AMS facility VERA five years ago and its potential and applicability as a new means of isobar suppression in accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) has since been explored. Laser photodetachment and molecular dissociation processes of anions provide unprecedented isobar suppression factors of >1010 for several established AMS isotopes like 36Cl or 26Al and give access to new AMS isotopes like 90Sr, 135Cs or 182Hf at a 3-MV-tandem facility. Furthermore, Ion-Laser InterAction Mass Spectrometry has been proven to meet AMS requirements regarding reliability and robustness with a typical reproducibility of results of 3%. The benefits of the technique are in principle available to any AMS machine, irrespective of attainable ion beam energy. Since isobar suppression via this technique is so efficient, there often is no need for any additional element separation in the detection setup and selected nuclides may even become accessible without accelerator at all.

Second order nonlinear optical polarization P(2) has been calculated theoretically for several crystals having zinc-blende symmetries. Three distinct wavelengths 457 nm, 488 nm and 514 nm emitted from a continuous wave (cw) Ar-ion laser have been considered for the estimation of the second order nonlinear optical polarization. The study reveals nonlinear dependence of the second order nonlinear optical polarization on the applied electric field intensities at various wavelengths.

Abstract We provide an explicit expression for the second-order perturbative solution of a single trapped-ion interactingwith a lser field in the strong excitation regime. From the perturbative analytical solution, based on a matrix methodand a final normalization of the perturbed solutions, we show that the probability to find the ion in its excited statefits well with former results.

Abstract3-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-1-(2,5-dimethylfuran-3-yl)prop-2-en-1-one (DDFP), is prepared by the equimolar ratio of 1-(2,5-dimethylfuran)ethan-1-one and 3,4, dimethoxy benzaldehyde under ultrasonic irradiation. Structure of DDFP was established by the FT-IR, 1H and 13C-NMR spectroscopic methods and elemental analysis. The nonlinear optical properties of this dye using the z-scan technique with a cw argon ion laser at 514.5 nm are studied. Both the closed and open aperture z-scan data is used to estimate the nonlinear refractive index n2 and the nonlinear absorption coefficient β respectively. The measurements are carried out at five concentrations as well as at five laser powers. The values obtained are relatively very high and vary linearly with concentration. The studies on optical limiting behavior of this dye are also reported here.
