Abstract The presence of pulse front tilt (PFT), caused by angular dispersion (AD) in femtosecond laser pulses, could degrade the performance of the laser system and/or impact the experimental yields. We present a single-shot diagnostic capable of measuring the AD in the x–y plane by adopting an intensity mask. It can be applied to stretched pulses, making it ideal for diagnosing the AD along the amplification chain of a high-power laser system, and to ultrashort pulses exiting from an optical compressor. In this way, it can help in properly characterizing a laser pulse before it is delivered to the target area. In this Letter, we present experimental evidence of AD retrieval for different compression configurations, supported by theoretical analysis.

A refractive index (RI) tunable polysiloxane coating was fabricated based on the cross-linked network structure embedded with mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs), in which the MSNs were utilized to modulate the RI as well as to support the interior structure of the polysiloxane coating. The Si–O–Si inorganic backbone structure in combination with characteristics from the photopolymerization of active bonds produced the main cross-linked network structure, and controllable embedding of MSNs constructed the network-sphere structure. This approach eliminated the high-temperature post-treatment that was needed to remove the template, which ensures the safe application for temperature-sensitive laser crystal substrates and avoids coating structure collapse. In addition, degradation of the resulting coating can be minimized due to the similar chemical formation between MSN and polysiloxane coating. Hereby, a polysiloxane coating with expected spectral and laser damage-resistant properties can be obtained. This will facilitate the fabrication and application of a laser component with both high-transmission and high-flux capability for a high-power laser system.

A high peak and high average power femtosecond laser system based on media doped with Yb3+ ions is being developed at the Institute of Laser Physics of the SB RAS. For efficient laser amplification and to avoid optical damage is actually to compensate wave front distortion caused by grating astigmatism in pump channel. Based on theory of propagation of gaussian beam in space and through optical elements the calculation of optimal parameters of two lenses telescope and comparison with experimental data has been performed. The obtained results can be used for decrease of astigmatic effect on beam profile quality in design of laser systems with elements involving astigmatism.

A high-power laser system is employed to drive the fusion ignition to realize sustainable supply of green energy according to the inertial confinement fusion theory, in which frequency-converting crystals are sealed in the terminal vacuum chamber and utilized to turn the incident laser (1053 nm) to the desired one (351 nm). However, the reflected 351 nm laser from the pellet hohlraum that goes back through the frequency-converting crystal is found to be harmful for the upstream elements that are located before the terminal chamber. In this study, a specialized coating system for the frequency-converting crystals was designed and fabricated to both ensure high output power for the fusion and reduce the reflected 351 nm laser energy by absorption. Furthermore, the structural, mechanical, and laser-damage resistant properties of this coating were investigated as well.
