Abstract For a Weyl group W of rank r, the W-Catalan number is the number of antichains of the poset of positive roots, and the W-Narayana numbers refine the W-Catalan number by keeping track of the cardinalities of these antichains. The W-Narayana numbers are symmetric – that is, the number of antichains of cardinality k is the same as the number of cardinality $r-k$ . However, this symmetry is far from obvious. Panyushev posed the problem of defining an involution on root poset antichains that exhibits the symmetry of the W-Narayana numbers. Rowmotion and rowvacuation are two related operators, defined as compositions of toggles, that give a dihedral action on the set of antichains of any ranked poset. Rowmotion acting on root posets has been the subject of a significant amount of research in the recent past. We prove that for the root posets of classical types, rowvacuation is Panyushev’s desired involution.

Development donors spend millions of dollars a year on Media Development. Supporting the growth of a free and pluralistic media is being heralded as an integral part of working towards good governance and democracy in developing countries. It is seen as a technology transfer, apolitical and worthy. This research seeks to explore development donors’ use of Media Development as part of an overall stateVbuilding strategy. It has investigated this by looking at the history and contemporary experience of the growing Media Development sector. It has uncovered growing unease around the priorities of the programmes used in this area. There are charges that its religious adherence to the commercialised neoliberal model of media threatens to marginalise the poor. There are concerns that Media Development is seen by donors as a way of training the ‘watchdog’ to oversee the funds that they no longer have control over in the new aid modality. This research is grounded in the Solomon Islands where a relatively new local media is the subject of a Media Development programme. This is a country that wears the labels of a ‘least developed nation’ and, in the recent past, a ‘postVconflict country’ and a ‘failed state’. The thesis is an attempt to get a snapshot of the Solomon Islands’ media and its relationship with aid donors by exploring these ideas with journalists, civil society, the main media assistance programme, commentators, and villagers living outside of the capital of Honiara. While the majority of the contributors see a Western model of media as inevitable with globalisation, there would appear to be an appetite for conversations around a more indigenised media that engages more fully with the local reality. There is an identifiable gap in research in this area of Media Development as a donor tool.

The ‘Peronist Left’ has become one of the chief actors in the often violent drama of Argentine politics today. It is the object of this article to place the events of the more recent past, at least since the return of Peronism to power in 1973, within the framework of the development of the ‘Peronist Left’ since the fall of Perón in 1955. Obviously the article makes no claim to be a comprehensive treatment of the subject. Such a treatment could only be part of a much more extensive study of the Argentine working class and the Peronist movement. In particular, the article concentrates on an analysis of the political ideology of the different currents that have made up the ‘Peronist Left’ since 1955, whilst recognizing that this ideology must ultimately be seen in the far wider context of the social and economic development of Argentine society. The first part will highlight the main features of this Left in the 1955–73 period and analyze the main currents within it. In the second part of the paper the events of the last two to three years will be looked at within this context.

This paper addresses the need for a comprehensive, corpus-based study of the prepositional passive in the recent past. Sets of prepositional passives from 1870 to 1999 were collected from the Corpus of Historical American English and compared with a control group of “regular” passive sentences. After presenting the diachronic frequency of prepositional passives over the time period, the study explores a number of special characteristics that have been suggested as being typical of the prepositional passive: lexicalization of verb + preposition, participle + noun + preposition combinations with light verbs such as made use of, coordination with another passive verb, “affectedness,” and the perceived significance of the subject referent. The results of the corpus-based investigation add new dimensions to our understanding of the construction’s use.

Pedophilia, which at the same time is considered as a sickness, was mostly handled in cinema history as an element of crime. Apart from the examples where the evil is punished, there also exists movies where the subject is handled but not named. And in recent past, movies that aim to empathize started to appear. These movies places pedophilia in the center, study the justifications behind actions and tries to establish sympathy. There are movies such as The Woodsman and Kind in which the main character is a pedophile, ones like Little Children where pedophilia is handled as a whole and ones like Nympnomaniac Vol 2 wherein pedophilia is elaborately scrutinized. Common trait of all these movies is the acceptance of pedophilia, which is coded as a state of absolute evil, as a reality and engaging in an effort to understand it. These four movies which, within the frame of autonomy of art and within the context of cinematographic ethics, empathize with a state that is opposite to moral norms are of importance regarding confrontation with parts of human nature that is considered evil.

Medical errors are recognized as an important issue within the scope of patient safety and it should be stated that they have started to take a noteworthy place in the public debate within the scope of health care policies. Medical errors, which have existed since the past but have been increasing recently, are very important within the scope of health services. In this context, it should be noted that it is quite small and has a number of studies from the recent past of Turkey. This study aims to compile and examine the researches made within the scope of medical errors and to investigate the factors affecting the medical error, the effects resulting from the errors, the attitudes towards the error and the types of errors, and to reveal the current information about the factors that affect them. we focus on medical error concept in this context, international and national research on the subject being discussed, relating to work done for medical bug in Turkey is presented, and gives advice on behalf of the work to be done in the future.

The paper describes the characteristics and behavior of unstable glaciers in the Pamirs, central Asia, over the last 30 years. These glaciers are divided into three groups: glaciers with registered surges; glaciers with signs of current instability; glaciers with signs of instability in the recent past. Examples are given to illustrate the nature of glacier fluctuations at a time of general glacier retreat in the Pamirs. A description is given of the evolution of Medvezhiy surging glacier, which was the subject of detailed annual observation from 1963 to 1991. Comparative characteristics of two building-up stages of this glacier, 1964–72 and 1974–88, are produced. On the basis of aerotopographic monitoring and with the aid of computer analysis, the kinematics of the glacier surface during the 1988–89 surge are traced in detail and the role of microsurges in the course of glacier build-up and the glacier surge is established.

The principles of measuring anxiety are reviewed. Scales of anxiety differ in their time focus: state-anxiety scales measure the present or recent past, whereas trait-anxiety scales measure the ways the subject generally feels. Commonly used scales have adequate validity, but there is incomplete agreement on the boundaries of the construct of anxiety. There are consistent differences in sensitivity among anxiety scales, and they vary greatly in the number of items, number of cues and in the method of scoring. For self-rating scales a large number of items with only two cues (e.g. ‘yes’ and ‘no’), or only two scores for each item, increases the sensitivity of the scale for screening as well as for detecting differences between drug and placebo. A large number of cues decreases the sensitivity of a self-rating scale; it is unknown whether a large number of cues is advantageous in group research, but a small number of items is adequate both for rating and self-rating scales.

Introduction. The subject of the mixtures of probability distributions has aroused a fresh interest in the fields of probability and statistics. Several authors, including Blischke, Rider, Robbins, Teicher, Patil and Seshadri, have discussed a variety of the associated probabilistic and statistical problems in varying details in the recent past. This paper attempts to solve by using the methods of infinite matrices some of the problems of the identifiability of countable mixtures of discrete probability distributions. It appears that here is still another area where Mathematics and Statistics can help one another grow. We are extremely thankful to Dr P. Vermes of Birkbeck College of the University of London for developing some theory of infinite matrices relevant to a couple of problems discussed in this paper. While most of the results discussed below are believed to be new, a few of them can be shown to be immediate consequences of a powerful result due to Teicher ((7)) obtained by using a different approach.

PAROLE-CHIAVE: Scienza giuridica otto-novecentesca. The advent of the primacy of law has placed the issue of its sustainability. The purpose of these pages is to follow some theoretical itineraries from the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries about how to conceive, through case law, a dynamics of law’s manifestation autonomous from political power mediation. The subject has its own relevance for an understanding of the current phase; on this, in fact, as I will seek to demonstrate, it seems to draw a diverse horizon of sense to the Law's autonomy compared to the recent past. I shall proceed by considering the doctrinal perceptions of two correlate questions: the characteristics of law's interpretation on the one hand, and the systematic profiles of jurisdiction on the other. KEYWORDS: Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries jurisprudence; primacy of the law; autonomy of the law; interpretation of the law; systematic profiles of jurisdiction.* Publicação original: MECCARELLI, Massimo.
