Using artificial intelligence (AI) based software defect prediction (SDP) techniques in the software development process helps isolate defective software modules, count the number of software defects, and identify risky code changes. However, software development teams are unaware of SDP and do not have easy access to relevant models and techniques. The major reason for this problem seems to be the fragmentation of SDP research and SDP practice. To unify SDP research and practice this article introduces a cloud-based, global, unified AI framework for SDP called DePaaS—Defects Prediction as a Service. The article describes the usage context, use cases and detailed architecture of DePaaS and presents the first response of the industry practitioners to DePaaS. In a first of its kind survey, the article captures practitioner’s belief into SDP and ability of DePaaS to solve some of the known challenges of the field of software defect prediction. This article also provides a novel process for SDP, detailed description of the structure and behaviour of DePaaS architecture components, six best SDP models offered by DePaaS, a description of algorithms that recommend SDP models, feature sets and tunable parameters, and a rich set of challenges to build, use and sustain DePaaS. With the contributions of this article, SDP research and practice could be unified enabling building and using more pragmatic defect prediction models leading to increase in the efficiency of software testing.

Abstract With the advancement of the times, computer technology is also constantly improving, and people’s requirements for software functions are also constantly improving, and as software functions become more and more complex, developers are technically limited and teamwork is not tacitly coordinated. And so on, so in the software development process, some errors and problems will inevitably lead to software defects. The purpose of this paper is to study the intelligent location and identification methods of software defects based on data mining. This article first studies the domestic and foreign software defect fault intelligent location technology, analyzes the shortcomings of traditional software defect detection and fault detection, then introduces data mining technology in detail, and finally conducts in-depth research on software defect prediction technology. Through in-depth research on several technologies, it reduces the accidents of software equipment and delays its service life. According to the experiments in this article, the software defect location proposed in this article uses two methods to compare. The first error set is used as a unit to measure the subsequent error set software error location cost. The first error set 1F contains 19 A manually injected error program, and the average positioning cost obtained is 3.75%.

Abstract For the traditional ensemble learning algorithm of software defect prediction, the base predictor exists the problem that too many parameters are difficult to optimize, resulting in the optimized performance of the model unable to be obtained. An ensemble learning algorithm for software defect prediction that is proposed by using the improved sparrow search algorithm to optimize the extreme learning machine, which divided into three parts. Firstly, the improved sparrow search algorithm (ISSA) is proposed to improve the optimization ability and convergence speed, and the performance of the improved sparrow search algorithm is tested by using eight benchmark test functions. Secondly, ISSA is used to optimize extreme learning machine (ISSA-ELM) to improve the prediction ability. Finally, the optimized ensemble learning algorithm (ISSA-ELM-Bagging) is presented in the Bagging algorithm which improve the prediction performance of ELM in software defect datasets. Experiments are carried out in six groups of software defect datasets. The experimental results show that ISSA-ELM-Bagging ensemble learning algorithm is significantly better than the other four comparison algorithms under the six evaluation indexes of Precision, Recall, F-measure, MCC, Accuracy and G-mean, which has better stability and generalization ability.

The high dimensionality of software metric features has long been noted as a data quality problem that affects the performance of software defect prediction (SDP) models. This drawback makes it necessary to apply feature selection (FS) algorithm(s) in SDP processes. FS approaches can be categorized into three types, namely, filter FS (FFS), wrapper FS (WFS), and hybrid FS (HFS). HFS has been established as superior because it combines the strength of both FFS and WFS methods. However, selecting the most appropriate FFS (filter rank selection problem) for HFS is a challenge because the performance of FFS methods depends on the choice of datasets and classifiers. In addition, the local optima stagnation and high computational costs of WFS due to large search spaces are inherited by the HFS method. Therefore, as a solution, this study proposes a novel rank aggregation-based hybrid multifilter wrapper feature selection (RAHMFWFS) method for the selection of relevant and irredundant features from software defect datasets. The proposed RAHMFWFS is divided into two stepwise stages. The first stage involves a rank aggregation-based multifilter feature selection (RMFFS) method that addresses the filter rank selection problem by aggregating individual rank lists from multiple filter methods, using a novel rank aggregation method to generate a single, robust, and non-disjoint rank list. In the second stage, the aggregated ranked features are further preprocessed by an enhanced wrapper feature selection (EWFS) method based on a dynamic reranking strategy that is used to guide the feature subset selection process of the HFS method. This, in turn, reduces the number of evaluation cycles while amplifying or maintaining its prediction performance. The feasibility of the proposed RAHMFWFS was demonstrated on benchmarked software defect datasets with Naïve Bayes and Decision Tree classifiers, based on accuracy, the area under the curve (AUC), and F-measure values. The experimental results showed the effectiveness of RAHMFWFS in addressing filter rank selection and local optima stagnation problems in HFS, as well as the ability to select optimal features from SDP datasets while maintaining or enhancing the performance of SDP models. To conclude, the proposed RAHMFWFS achieved good performance by improving the prediction performances of SDP models across the selected datasets, compared to existing state-of-the-arts HFS methods.
