Abstrak: Pertambahan penduduk di Kabupaten Muna menyebabkan peningkatan kebutuhan akan rumah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) mengidentifikasi  faktor penentuan lokasi pembangunan permukiman masyarakat dan perumahan yang dibangun oleh swasta; (2) menganalisis perbedaan faktor dominan dalam penentuan lokasi pembangunan permukiman oleh masyarakat dan perumahan yang dibangun oleh swasta. Metode analisis data yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah analisis kuantitatif dan analisis kualitatif yang dilanjutkan dengan analisis faktor lokasi pembangunan permukiman dan pembangunan perumahan. Hasil penelitian ini antara lain: (1) Faktor penentu lokasi pembangunan permukiman oleh masyarakat dengan 3 urutan teratas antara lain: pelayanan air, listrik dan telepon, faktor kondisi jaringan lingkungan, dan keberadaan ruang terbuka. Faktor penentu lokasi pembangunan perumahan oleh swasta adalah faktor tingkat kemiringan lahan, faktor ketersediaan jaringan listrik, faktor kedekatan jarak, dan faktor kemudahan dalam pemasaran; (2) Faktor dominan dalam penentuan lokasi pembangunan permukiman oleh masyarakat antara lain tempat tinggal asal, ketersediaan lahan yang luas, harga tanah yang terjangkau, masuk dalam wilayah kota dan kondisi lingkungan. Sedangkan pengembang cenderung mempertimbangkan faktor letak, yaitu lokasi termasuk dalam daerah pengembangan kota, kedekatan jarak, lokasi yang strategis, harga tanah dan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan perumahan daerah.Kata kunci: Faktor penentu lokasi permukiman, faktor penentu lokasi perumahanAbstrak: Population growth in Muna Regency causes an increase in the need of house.This research aims to: (1) identify factors in determining the location of settlements development and housing development; (2) analyze the differences of dominant factors in determining the location of residential development by the community and housing builtby the private sector. Data in this research is analized by using quantitative and qualitative analysis followed by factor analysis of location of settlements development and housing development. The results of this study shows that: (1) The determining factors for the location of settlement development by the community with the top 3 ranking, namely, water, electricity and telephone services, environmental network conditions, and the existence of open spaces. The determining factors for the location of housing development by the private sector are the land slope, the availability of the electricity network, the proximity factor, and the convenience factor in marketing; (2) The dominant factors in determining the location of residential development by the communityi.e.the original place of resident, the available land is wide, affordable land prices, included in the city area and environmental conditions. Mean while, private sector tend to consider location factors, namely location is in urban development areas, proximity to distances, strategic locations, land price and to meet regional housing needs.Keywords: Determining factors of settlement location, determining factors of housing location

Xenogeneic and allogeneic encounters following aggregated and clustered settlements of coral larvae (planulae) may carry important ecological consequences in shaping coral reefs’ communities. However, larval settlement behaviors and settlement location choices in the presence of conspecifics or heterospecifics have not been examined in detail, due to a lack of experimental tools. One potential approach is the employment of vital staining of planulae with dyes that do not impair larval metamorphosis processes, are stable for prolonged periods, and do not diffuse to un-labeled counterpart planulae. For these purposes, we examined the use of neutral red (NR) dye, as an identification marker, on the planulae of Stylophora pistillata, a Red Sea branching coral species. To examine possible NR impacts on larval settlement in the presence of conspecific planulae, we followed the settlement ratios of kin, non-kin, and mixed assemblages, as a proxy for metamorphosis success. We found no differences in settlement rates of stained vs. unstained larvae, lack of stain diffusion to other larvae and that NR stain is maintained for more than a week under a still water regimen. Thus, staining with NR may serve as a useful experimental tool, opening new opportunities in studying larval settlement patterns in sessile marine organisms.

The relation between human activities, climate variability, and geomorphodynamics in the Mediterranean region is widely discussed. For the western lower Bakırçay plain in the ancient Pergamon Micro-Region, geoarchaeological studies have shown changes in geomorphodynamics primarily on a site-basis. We reconstruct past geomorphodynamics in the area based on a meta-analysis of 108 14C-ages obtained from 25 sediment sequences mainly from colluvial and alluvial deposits by analyzing cumulative probability functions of the 14C-ages. Accounting for biases in the database, we applied different approaches and compared the empirical probability functions with simulated functions. Reconstructed geomorphodynamics in the western lower Bakırçay plain during the Holocene principally coincide with a trend of climate-driven sensitivity to erosion and population dynamics in the eastern Mediterranean, but are also related to the local settlement history. Our data analysis shows that transformations of the Pergamon Micro-Region between the Hellenistic and Roman Imperial times is contemporary to increasing geomorphodynamics that peak in Roman Imperial times. However, a cause–effect relationship between geomorphodynamics and settlement dynamics should be further evaluated. A comparison with data from other settlement centers in Anatolia shows that a coincidence between the peak in geomorphodynamics and a peak in settlement activity are not obvious and may be influenced by soil conservation measures, preferred settlement location, and inherited soil exhaustion.

The behavioural ecological approach to anthropology states that the density and distribution of resources determines optimal patterns of resource use and also sets its constraints to grouping, mobility and settlement choice. Central place foraging (CPF) models have been used for analyzing foraging behaviours of hunter-gatherers and drawing a causal link from the volume of available resources in the environment to the mobility decisions of hunter-gatherers. In this study, we propose a spatially explicit agent-based CPF model. We explore its potential for explaining the formation of settlement patterns and test its robustness to the configuration of space. Building on a model assuming homogeneous energy distributions, we had to add several new parameters and an adaptation mechanism for foragers to predict the length of their stay, together with a heterogeneous environment configuration. The validation of the model shows that the spatially explicit CPF is generally robust to spatial configuration of energy resources. The total volume of energy has a significant effect on constraining sedentism as predicted by aspatial model and thus can be used on different environmental conditions. Still the spatial autocorrelation of resource distribution has a linear effect on optimal mobility decisions and needs to be considered in predictive models. The effect on settlement location choice is not substantial and is more determined by other characteristics of settlement location. This limits the CPF models in analyzing settlement pattern formation processes.

Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) is one of the favorite education facilities that attract students from other regions. This fact can cause an increase in the need for a living place near UPI. Limited availability of land and increasing land needs affect the quality of the settlements. The objectives of this research are 1) to identify and analyze the factors that affect settlement quality around UPI, 2) to analyze a settlement quality around UPI, and 3) to examine the possible linkage between settlement quality and the students’ learning achievement. The method used is data extraction from satellite imagery to obtain settlement quality parameters: settlement density, building layout, the width of settlement driveway, settlement location, settlement driveway condition, and the existence of vegetation. Another data sets were collected through questionnaires on the students’ learning achievement. This research shows that there is no strong correlation between the quality of settlements and the students’ academic performance. This is evidenced by the highest GPA points achieved by students who live in only moderate quality settlements.
