In this chapter, the author reviews the most common topical ophthalmic drops for diagnostic use in a pediatric eye exam. Topical diagnostic agents have become an integral part of an ocular health examination even in infants and young children. Topical local anesthetics are commonly used for eye procedures such as tonometry, gonioscopy, and minor office procedures. The proper use of mydriatic drugs allows clinicians to identify and diagnose various ocular abnormalities that might otherwise go undetected. Cycloplegic refraction is a reliable procedure to determine the true refractive status of patients with accommodative esotropia, pseudomyopia, and latent hyperopia. Cycloplegic refraction is also useful in non-communicative or uncooperative patients and when a functional vision problem is suspected such as when visual acuities do not correlate with symptoms or clinical expecteds. Many times, diagnostic drops can help a clinician be more confident of the patient's clinical findings.

The subject of this paper is an experimental and numerical analysis of the stability of the wall panels with one-side board sheathing for timber structures. The reinforcement of the panel is provided using glued timber composite I-shaped element consisting of a web made of a wood-based desk embedded into flanges of solid timber. The mechanism of the behaviour of these panels, mode of the failure and reliable procedure to determine the buckling load-bearing capacity not been fully explored so far. This work describes the behaviour of the wall panel under vertical load and the method of failure using experimental and numerical analysis. The reduction coefficient kJ was determined, which can be used for a simple calculation of the buckling capacity of a wall panel.

Background: Anal fissure is a linear painful mucosal tearing in the distal part of anal canal. It extends from dentate to anal edge. Aim: To compare the glyceryltrinitrate ointment and internal lateral sphincterotomy for anal fissure pain relief in acute/chronic pts. Study Design: Prospective study Place and duration of study: Department of Surgery Unit-II, Fatima Memorial Hospital, Shadman Lahore from 1st October 2018 to 31stDecember 2020. Methodology: 40 pts with acute and chronic anal fissure were enrolled. Half of the patients undergo internal lateral sphincterotomy while other opted 0.2% use of glyceryl trinitrate ointment. Each patient was followed for pain, recovery, complications and recurrence until 12 months for internal lateral sphincterotomy and 18 months in glyceryl trinitrate ointment. Results: There were 24 males and 16 females with a mean age of patients as 30±3.2 years. Initial follow-up of patients showed 100% pain and fissure improvement in internal lateral sphincterotomy group as compared to 60% in glyceryl trinitrate ointment group respectively. Conclusion: Internal lateral sphincterotomy is most efficient and reliable procedure in relieving anal fissure pains. Keywords: Anal fissure, Internal lateral sphincterotomy, Glyceryl trinitrate

Breast reduction has been widely studied throughout the years, with different types of resection and breast reshaping techniques being described based on one or two pedicles. This chapter introduces the combination of parenchymal resection and liposuction to treat Gigantomastia, leaving a short scar. Liposuction improves breast remodeling, whereas breast glandular resection and repositioning enhances the upper pole fullness. The Power-Assisted Liposuction Mammaplasty (P.A.L.M.) technique is a safe and reliable procedure, insuring an optimal vascularization to the breast through the preservation of the central, superior and lateral pedicle, thus reducing the complication rate. In this chapiter we emphasize the importance of the preoperative markings, considered as essential for optimal results.

BACKGROUND The optimal treatment for posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus in newborns has not been established yet. Moreover, despite many valid therapeutic alternatives, unfavorable neurodevelopmental outcomes are frequent. According to recent literature, these discouraging results could be related to secondary inflammatory damage of the white matter due to the gradual dissolution of the intraventricular hematoma, which should be removed. OBSERVATIONS Neuroendoscopic lavage (NEL) has proven to be a safe and reliable procedure, able to adequately remove the intraventricular clots and the products of blood degradation. To increase surgical control of the entire ventricular system, the authors illustrated a case in which they associated real-time transfontanellar ultrasound monitoring with NEL. LESSONS Coupling these two techniques, the authors performed a rapid ventricular wash and obtained intraoperative confirmation of complete and accurate clot removal.

AbstractWe propose a photonic procedure using cross-Kerr nonlinearities (XKNLs) to encode single logical qubit information onto four-photon decoherence-free states. In quantum information processing, a decoherence-free subspace can secure quantum information against collective decoherence. Therefore, we design a procedure employing nonlinear optical gates, which are composed of XKNLs, quantum bus beams, and photon-number-resolving measurements with linear optical devices, to conserve quantum information by encoding quantum information onto four-photon decoherence-free states (single logical qubit information). Based on our analysis in quantifying the affection (photon loss and dephasing) of the decoherence effect, we demonstrate the experimental condition to acquire the reliable procedure of single logical qubit information having the robustness against the decoherence effect.
