A new rare-earth polyborate, trisodium europium octaborate, Na3EuB8O15, was prepared using the high-temperature molten-salt method and structurally determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. It crystallizes in the triclinic space group P\overline{1} and contains a one-dimensional [B8O15]∞ tube structure that is constructed from BO3 and BO4 polyhedra. The Eu3+ and Na+ cations reside in this structure to ensure cohesion and neutrality. The excitation spectra, emission spectra, decay time and Commission Internationale de l'Éclairage (CIE) chromaticity index of Na3EuB8O15 were studied. Under near-UV light excitation (393 nm), the polyborate shows an intense red emission, which mainly originates from the highest intensities of the 5D0→7F1 and 5D0→7F2 transitions.

The photometric properties of an radio frequency (RF)-based sputtering plasma source were monitored through optical spectroscopy. The colour of the plasma source was deduced based on conventional chromaticity index analysis and it was compared to the direct spectral data plots of the emission peaks to investigate the possibility of characterising the plasma based on its specific colour and exploring the potential of defining a new method by which the plasma sputtering process can be addressed based on the plasma colour parameters. The intention of this investigation is to evaluate the possibility of simplifying the monitoring and assessment of the sputtering process for applied scientists operating plasma sputter deposition systems. We demonstrate a viable potential for this technique in terms of providing information regarding the stability of the plasma, chamber pressure, and plasma power; however, further work is underway to verify and assess a relationship between the quality of the thin film coating and the colour characteristics of the deposition plasma. Here, we only focus on the feasibility of such an approach and demonstrate interesting observations. We observed a linear relationship between the colour functions and the plasma power, while the stability of the sputtering plasma can be assessed based on the plasma colour functions. The colour functions also follow a unique pattern when the working gas pressure is increased.

Solvent specific intramolecular electronic communication truncated optical behaviour, and white light emission with a CIE chromaticity index of (0.33, 0.33) using only single component via non-covalent nano-assembly of alkyne–phenanthrene conjugated perylenemonoimide (PMIAP) are demonstrated.

In this paper, the colorimetry characteristics of ten red tourmaline samples were studied through the visible light spectrometer Color I5 of X-rite company of the United States. In order to give a quantitative description of the color of red tourmalines, the chromaticity index of the samples was measured, and the red tourmaline color parameters with possible principle and technology for evaluation were obtained, including chroma coordinates, main wavelength, chroma, brightness, curves of reflection rate and chroma figures. Combining with the electron probe microanalysis and the chemical analysis, the relationship between the content change of color-caused ions and the color parameters was discussed by analyzing the existing states and content of color-caused ions Mn2+(ion), Cr3+(ion) and Fe2+(ion).
