The article is devoted to improving the accuracy of the system for measuring and controlling the level of liquid materials in horizontal cylindrical tanks. The task of ensuring continuous accurate control of the level, volume and mass of petroleum products, taking into account the shape of the bottom of the tank, is set. In order to improve the accuracy of the measuring device, a laser rangefinder is installed, which allows you to determine the distance from the tank lid to the point of the surface level of the liquid product and calculate the volume of the liquid material by determining the average temperature and correcting for temperature changes when calculating the density, volume and mass of petroleum products with different shapes of the bottoms of a horizontal cylindrical tank. The developed method provides high accuracy, low power consumption, implementation is simple and economical. The device has no mechanically moving parts, so the measuring equipment is protected from failures and has a long service life.

One of the problems in petroleum industry is the process of thermo-chemical preparation of crude oil developed from wells containing water, gas and other mechanical impurities. Herewith, the path of water drops in horizontal cylindrical tank is specified with powers affecting them. In this case the size and form of the tank are necessary as well. The paper studies the issue of destruction of oil emulsions and dynamic deposition of water drops. A mathematical model for description of motion rate of water drops in the tank considering the powers affecting them and the tank parameters has been developed as well.

Most systems that are the subject of control engineering studies have some non-linearity. An example of this is the horizontal cylindrical tank, commonly used in process industries. To deal with cases like this, several control theories have been developed over time, each one presenting better results in certain systems. This work presents an alternative for the control of nonlinear systems, without necessary modeling or previous information about the system, based on a new optimization law for the artificial neural network training in real time.

Natural gas is relatively clean, and its demand is currently increasing. In most cases, gas fields are located at the bottom of the sea. Therefore, floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) systems are now attracting considerable attention. This paper is related to the dynamical design of a FPSO system; in particular, it focuses on the free surface elevation induced by the waves in a horizontal cylindrical and axisymmetric liquid vessel with end caps. In this study, the theory of the wave height and resonant frequency in a horizontal cylinder subjected to pitching via external excitation is developed. Then, a theory taking into account the effect of perforated plates is introduced. A special discussion is made with regard to the number and location of the perforated plates and the effect of a partial opening in a perforated plate on the damping. Finally, the experimental data of resonant wave heights up to the third mode are shown in comparison to the theoretically derived results.

Abstract This article presents partial results of the laboratory development of an anaerobic bioreactor designed for the physical modelling of (semi)continuous dry or wet anaerobic digestion processes. A horizontal cylindrical tank reactor of 0.4 m3 total capacity has been developed. The reactor allows the continuous stirring of a liquid batch or the intermittent stirring of a solid batch. The bioreactor has been used as a lab-scale digestor in the research project dealing with high-solids (dry) anaerobic co-digestion organic fraction of mixed municipal solid waste. The first experiment was performed on the mixture of MSW with corn silage (1:1) with the weight of 300 kg.
