Abstract Surface wear is one of the major causes of damage to wire ropes in multi-layer winding systems. This damage leads to performance degradation and affects the service safety of wire rope. To reveal the wear evolution and the performance degradation of wire rope in service, the correlations between the wear characteristic parameters and the residual strength were investigated. The results show that the variation in the wear parameters is affected by the wear distribution and the structure of the wire rope. The main wear mechanisms between wire ropes are adhesion wear and abrasive wear. Different wear parameters should be combined to evaluate the wear state of the wire rope. The tensile temperature rise could accurately reflect the wear evolution of the in-service wire rope under the condition of a large wear degree. The negative correlation between the residual strength and the wear area of the damaged rope samples is the strongest.

Abstract At present, there is no research on the calculation of tension variation of the conductor with bending stiffness model between the continuous span during tension stringing construction. Aiming at the typical terrain with large elevation difference in UHV project, a vector finite element method for calculating the tension of the conductor with bending stiffness model passes through the pulley in the process of tension stringing is proposed. The process of the wire rope under the action of the tractor pulling the conductor passes through the pulley continuously is realized. The variations of tension of tensioner and tractor, reaction force of pulley and envelope angle of the conductor passes through the pulley are obtained by simulation of tension stringing conditions such as 1 pulls 1, 1 pulls 2, etc, which provides reference for equipment selection for the tension stringing construction of mountain terrain with large elevation difference.

ABSTRACT: This paper reports the analyses carried out with the company Pedrini SpA ad unico socio, located in Carobbio degli Angeli, Bergamo (IT). Wire ropes with diamond beads, used as cutting tools in multi-wire machines for cutting blocks of stone, were considered and a failure analysis of the wire ropes was carried out. The aim of the paper is to highlight the damage mechanisms of the wire ropes to increase service life of these cutting tools. Microscope observations and the penetrating liquids method were used to analyze the damaged wire ropes. Fatigue, corrosion and contact fatigue problems were observed and the effect of the centering of the beads on the wire rope was studied.

Due to the complexity of the interference operation environment of wire rope, the detection signals are usually weak and coupled in time-frequency domain, which makes the defect difficult to recognize, while the signal characterizations in phase space are also needed to be studied. Combining the nonlinear dynamic feature identification theories, phase space characteristics and chaotic features of wire rope defect detection signals are mainly investigated in this paper. First, principles of phase space reconstruction method for wire rope detection signals are presented by the chaotic dynamic indexes calculation of embedded dimension and delay time. Second, the change trends of the correlation dimension, approximate entropy and Lyapunov index of different phase space reconstructed wire rope defect detection signals are studied through the nonlinear simulation and analysis. Finally, a phase space reconstruction algorithm based on improved SVD is proposed, and the new algorithm is also compared with traditional signal processing methods. These results obtained by 6 groups of experiments were also evaluated and compared by the parameters of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and phase space trajectory chart, which manifests that the improved algorithm not only can increase the weak detection signal SNR to about 2.3dB of wire rope effectively, but also demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed methods in application.

For the rigid impact and flexible impact in space operation tasks, impact dynamic models between two objects are established in this paper, laying the model foundation for controlling or suppressing the impact. For the capture task between a grapple shaft and a rigid body, the impact dynamic model is established based on the Zhiying–Qishao model. Moreover, by introducing a friction factor into the original impact model, an improved dynamic model between two rigid bodies is proposed. For the capture task with flexible impact, an impact dynamic model between the grapple shaft and a flexible wire rope is established based on the dynamic model of the flexible wire rope. The ground experiments and simulations are carried out with two objects on an air flow table. The experiment results validate the impact dynamic model proposed in this paper.
