The creation of Multidisciplinary Teams to monitor patients with COVID-19 and those infected with SARS-CoV-2 in a situation of home confinement was one of the measures established by the Portuguese government to help stop the spreading of the infection in the parishes of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area more affected by the pandemic. To know its way of functioning and acting, as well as the role of social workers in the context of crisis and public health emergency, a qualitative study was developed based on interviews by focus groups and document analysis. It was found that the Multidisciplinary Teams and the intervention model carried out were fundamental in helping to break the transmission chains and prevent the growth of new contamination, with social workers having a crucial role in supporting the most vulnerable households in a containment situation.

Abstract Background: The public health emergency has created challenges for the care of patients, particularly those with chronic diseases such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy. To elucidate the challenges faced by Chinese patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy during the public health emergency coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, we conducted an online cross-sectional survey, the responses of which were collected between March 27 and June 30, 2021. Results: In total, valid questionnaire responses were obtained from 2,105 patients, of whom 49 lived in pandemic lockdown areas. Of the 2,056 responders from non-lockdown areas, 42.8% reduced their outside daily activities, 49.4% reduced their use of rehabilitation services, 39.7% postponed regular follow-up appointments, and 40.8% complained of accelerated declines in motor function over the previous year. The corresponding figures for the 49 participants from lockdown areas were almost all higher, with 67.3% reducing outside daily activities, 44.9% reducing their use of rehabilitation services, 79.6% postponing regular follow-up appointments, and 55.1% complaining of accelerated declines in motor function. When asked whether they expected more assistance from society than they had received before the pandemic, 60.8% of patients in non-lockdown areas and 87.8% of those in lockdown areas responded affirmatively. When asked whether they felt more anxious than they had before the pandemic and needed psychological counseling, 11.5% of respondents in non-lockdown areas and 18.4% of respondents in lockdown areas responded affirmatively. In non-lockdown areas, 76% of respondents had at least one telemedicine visit, and 71% of them thought that telemedicine was helpful. In lockdown areas, 91.8% had used telemedicine at least once, and 66.7% of them found it helpful. Conclusions: These public health emergency control measures have affected the care of patients with chronic diseases worldwide, particularly pronounced in lockdown areas. It is imperative that healthcare workers assist patients and establish more robust chronic disease management systems. Telemedicine is an effective model for providing healthcare to such patients.

In this report, the COVID-19 Continuity of Court Operations During a Public Health Emergency Workgroup (Plan B Workgroup) makes recommendations about best practices and technologies that should be retained or adapted post-pandemic. The recommendations in this final Plan B Workgroup whitepaper are based on experience and feedback from Arizona’s courts addressing pandemic and post-pandemic practices. Although the original report, issued on June 2, 2021, included a May 2021 Survey of Arizona’s Courts, this updated report also includes information from a July 2021 State Bar of Arizona Survey and a September 2021 State of Arizona Public Opinion Survey addressing those practices. The workgroup’s findings and recommendations, which remain unchanged, can be summarized in five major categories: (1) Increasing Access to Justice, (2) Expanding Use of Technology, (3) Jury and Trial Management, (4) Communication Strategies and Disaster Preparedness, and (5) Health, Safety, and Security Protocols.

Implementing the right of peaceful assembly in the midst of a pandemic seems dangerous, especially when the disease is highly infectious. The United Nations Human Rights Committee then adopted General Comment No. 37 which explains the scope of protection of Article 21 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights 1966. This writing is normative research on the interpretation made by the Human Rights Committee and assessing the sufficiency of the said interpretation in protecting the freedom of assembly in the midst of public health emergencies. It is found that the Human Rights Committee has conducted a thorough method in interpreting the protective scope of Article 21 of the ICCPR, whereas the General Comment No. 37 provides a vast protective scope, including a thorough guideline on how to conduct the freedom of assembly in times of public health emergency.

Public health emergency coping capacity has been an important direction in crisis research in recent years. The use of the public health emergency coping capacity scale to evaluate the public’s response and feelings regarding public health emergencies is one of the essential ways to improve the effectiveness of public health emergency response. Based on literature research, this paper constructed the theoretical dimension of public health emergency coping ability and completed the development of the items of the initial scale in China. After using SPSS 22.0-conducted exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and reliability test, the scale dimensions and items were deleted and optimized. The final public health emergency coping capacity measurement scale in China included 12 items and four dimensions. The results showed that the developed scale has high reliability and validity, which is helpful for the relevant personnel to understand the level of public health emergency coping ability and provides an essential basis for timely and accurate emergency prevention and control interventions.
