Abstract There are the results of pipelines rolled joints welding machine modernization. The machine is designed using a welding rotator, linear electric drives, stepper motors, CNC system. The machine is controlled by a CNC system according to ISO 6983-1: 2009. The machine consists of: stepping rotary device, welding torch stepping device, controlled TIG welding power source, controlled welding wire feeder, welding current control system, workpiece rotation control system and welding torch. The welding torch movement trajectory controlling software has been created. It allows to weld by any type of welding torch recommended movements. The modernizing machine allows welding the pipelines rolled joints in automatic mode both in one pass and in multi-pass. The machine can be used for industrial pipeline elements welding, for welding modes testing, for studying the effect of welding modes on the quality of pipeline welds. The results can be adapted for sheet structures welding using the standard commands of the ISO 6983-1: 2009 standard. The results can be adapted to industrial welding robots control. The welding machine can be used for MIG / MAG welding and surfacing.

ISO 14649 standard, commonly recognized as STEP-NC is a data model interface for computer numerical controllers. STEP-NC goes much further that G codes and has a more comprehensive data model that overcomes the lack of process information in ISO 6983 files (G codes programming). The STEP compliant approach brings the possibility to integrate the machine controller to the overall enterprise information network, with the intention of having bi-directional data flow. This will provide the novel capability for upstream feedback of information from the numerical controller to the design and process areas in the process planning and manufacturing. This paper presents the key concepts of the proposed STEP Convertor of the STEP-CNC Mapping System. The objective of the main system is to take a generic STEP file as the input to drive a CNC machine tool. The main system is broken down into two main sub-systems, STEP Convertor and STEP-NC Translator. This paper will focus solely on the information structure and conceptualization of the STEP Convertor.

The paper presents the new possibilities of automation of CNC machine tool programming using STEP-NC (ISO 14649). The drawbacks of G-code language (ISO 6983) still widely used and the data structure of new STEP-NC standard are presented. Next, the automation possibilities, namely automatic recognition of manufacturing features based on ISO 10303 files, automatic generation of STEP-NC programs based on manufacturing features defined in ISO 10303-224/ISO 14649 and automatic modification of STEP-NC (ISO 14649) programs are presented.

Computer Numerical Control (CNC) controller is an important part of machine, composed of hardware and software models. Software model, usually called an interpreter translates input code as per internal structure of CNC machine. Now a day’s traditional controllers of CNC machine are found to be closed in nature, because they are depended of vendor’s specifications. Due to that dependence they do not facilitate access to the inner features of machine. In order to overcome these problems open architecture controllers were introduced. In this article a new ISO 6983 translator for open architecture CNC controller is being proposed. The developed software model is able to read commercially available Computer Aided Design (CAD) /Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) system generated International Standards Organization (ISO) 6983 file and extracts position, feed rate, spindle speed, tool etc data and translates to OAC machine. At the same time it is also able to generate output in user defined text and EXtensible Markup Language (.xml) formats. Further design of paper includes development of translator, followed by case study experiment and finally ends with conclusion.

This research explored ISO 14649 together with ISO 6983 and utilize STEP-NC in overcoming the problems of G & M code and at the same time take advantage of the current advances in computing and controllers. A new STEP-NC Code Generator called Milling STEP Coder, which focuses on the milling process that are able to generate STEP-NC codes based on ISO 14649 Part 11 was developed. This system also has the capabilities to visualize the STEP-NC codes generated in a parent to child relationship tree-view structure, as well as give an image visualization of how the end machining will appears. The developed Milling STEP Coder uses Software Prototyping Model as its software development methodology, instead of the normal waterfall model, as prototype is a valuable mechanism for gaining better understanding of the system requirements. A small-scale mock up of the system was developed following an iterative modification process. The advantages of the proposed Milling STEP Coder program was verified and evaluated. The Milling STEP Coder can generates STEP-NC codes through a STEP-NC compliant interface and will give industries and academician more in-depth understanding and confidence to make the switch from G & M code to STEP-NC.

Abstract The STEP NC system that replaces the ISO 6983 standard has been under development more than 10 years. However, just a few control developers find alternatives in the new standard that includes several completed modules. The paper shows in which role the industrial companies could use a new generation NC standard. The paper concludes the parameters that support the setting up of a mathematical model for a place-centered application with the help of case studies. The expected powerful opportunities of the application of a new generation NC standard are described with the help of case studies.
