AbstractThis paper traces the expansion of a network of IoT sensors to improve the effectiveness of a centralised control room in Brazil in anticipating natural hazards. This centralised model relies on using IoT data by highly qualified experts replacing previous smaller local structures. We draw on the notion of Situational Awareness to carry out the study. Results show that although the operators were not always familiar with the characteristics of locations, the use of IoT data heightened their situational awareness in the centralised control room by improving perception and comprehension. However, they still relied on local knowledge and learned experiences to support projection and anticipation of risks. The study highlights that although data analytics systems are capable of expanding operators’ perception of local elements, they must be complemented by local richer forms of information, needed to anticipate risks and make critical decisions with major impact on local population.

We study the fundamental properties of classical and quantum Markov processes generated by q-Bessel operators and their extension to the algebra of all bounded operators on the Hilbert space [Formula: see text]. In particular, we find a suitable generalized Gorini–Kossakowski–Sudarshan–Lindblad representation for the infinitesimal generator of q-Bessel operator and show that both the classical and quantum Markov processes are transient for α > 0 and recurrent for α = 0. We also show that they do not admit invariant states and, moreover that the support projection of any initial state instantaneously fills the full space.

Immature stages of Scaptodera rhadamistus (Fabricius) are described for the first time along with notes on nidification and biology.  The larvae differ from other Scarabaeinae species in the structure of raster on tenth sternum with two irregular bunches of serrations ventrally one on either half.  Pupae with pronotum transverse having rounded margins resemble adults, and consist of four lateral, single caudal and single pteronotal support projection.  Adult males and females differ in coloration, structure of pronotum, presence of spine like process on mesosternum and, in the structure of male and female genitalia.

We characterize the support projection of a state evolving under the action of a quantum Markov semigroup with unbounded generator represented in the generalized GKSL form and a quantum version of the classical Lévy-Austin-Ornstein theorem.

We prove two characterizations of the support projection of a state evolving under the action of a quantum Markov semigroup and a quantum analogue of the Lévy–Austin–Ornstein theorem. We discuss applications to open quantum systems.

Each bounded linear operator a on a Hilbert space K has a hermitian left-support projection p such that and (1 – p)K = ker α* = ker αα*. I demonstrate here that certain operators on Banach spaces also have left supports.Throughout this paper X will be a complex Banach space with norm-dual X', and L(X) will be the Banach algebra of bounded linear operators on X. Two linear subspaces Y and Z of X are orthogonal (in the sense of G. Birkhoff) if ∥ y ∥ ≦ ∥ y + z ∥ (y ∈Y, z ∈ Z); this orthogonality relation is not, in general, symmetric. It is easy to see that pX is orthogonal to (1 – p)X if and only if the norm of p is 0 or 1, when p is a projection on X.
