We describe the utility of a standardized index (Z-score) in quantitative EEG (QEEG) capable of when referenced to a resting-state, sex- and age-differentiated QEEG normative database (ISB-NormDB). Our ISB-NormDB comprises data for 1,289 subjects (553 males, 736 females) ages 4.5 to 81 years that met strict normative data criteria. A de-noising process allowed stratification based on QEEG variability between normal healthy men and women at various age ranges. The ISB-NormDB data set that is stratified by sex provides a unique, highly accurate ISB-NormDB model (ISB-NormDB: ISB-NormDB-Male, ISB-NormDB-Female). To evaluate the trends and accuracy of the ISB-NormDB, we used actual data to compare Z-scores obtained through the ISB-NormDB with those obtained through a traditional QEEG normative database to confirm that basic trends are maintained in most bands and are sensitive to abnormal test data. Finally, we demonstrate the value of our standardized index of QEEG, and highlight it’s capacity to minimize the confounding variables of sex and age in any analysis.

Background: Social citizenship means creating a situation in which everyone can develop their full potential. Objectives: This study aimed to determine the social citizenship index with its various dimensions in selected countries. Methods: This study used a mixed-methods approach consisting of two phases. In the first phase, social citizenship items were extracted based on a systematic review of previous studies and interviews with experts using direct content analysis. In the second phase, the standardized index was assessed by performing the validity and reliability tests. To combine the dimensions, their values were standardized using the Z score. To analyze the data, factor analysis and normality tests were used. Results: The social citizenship index was categorized into four main dimensions, including health and education, livelihood, economic-political prosperity, and open society. In this study, 125 countries were categorized based on the Social Citizenship Index. The selected countries were classified into three categories based on the opinions of the research group and the cutting point of statistical quartiles: high (32 countries), medium (62 countries), and low (31 countries). Conclusions: It can be concluded that the social citizenship index with four main dimensions and 26 variables is a new tool that allows countries to be compared in the areas of providing welfare services to their citizens.


The study and analysis of the dynamics of the earth's climate is one of the scientific themes that has developed mostly at the recent years. This mobilized several scientists to study, describe or characterize the climate through several methods. These methods derived from climate science have given convincing results of high scientific significance, and above all through the appreciable quality of the indicators provided. In this context, and in order to appreciate this drought trend, we are using in the framework of this study of the Standardized Index of Precipitation and Evapotranspiration (SPEI) during the period 1961-2019. Indeed, the frequency and recurrence of drought are harmful events for the traditional production system in the Sahel region. Thus, the objective of this study is to identify the multiscale distribution of droughts. The results obtained define different types of droughts as well as their prevalence. These generally indicate the prevalence of slightly wet and slightly dry traits and are followed by moderately dry and moderately wet indices over all the stations studied. However, it should be noted a periodic occurrence of more or less long droughts which resulted in the preponderance of meteorological and agricultural droughts with occurrences mainly located in the periods 1974-1989 at Linguère station (1974-1989 and 1993- 2009), in Louga, between 1962-1973 and 1974-1982 in Podor, and, at the end between 1961-1970, 1974-1985 and 1993-2000 in Matam. In addition, the drought sequences are manifested earlier at the level of the stations of Matam and Podor. On other hand, at Linguère and Podor stations, the extreme drought indices were higher for all time scales chosen (SPI_1months, SPI_3 months and SPI_12 months).

Hemileia vastatrix is the most important fungal pathogen of coffee and the causal agent of recurrent disease epidemics that have invaded nearly every coffee-growing region in the world. The development of coffee varieties resistant to H. vastatrix requires fundamental understanding of the biology of the fungus. However, the complete life cycle of H. vastatrix remains unknown and conflicting studies and interpretations exist as to whether the fungus is undergoing sexual reproduction. Here we used population genetics of H. vastatrix to infer the reproductive mode of the fungus across most of its geographic range including Central Africa, SE Asia, the Caribbean, and South and Central America. The population structure of H. vastatrix was determined using eight simple sequence repeat markers (SSRs) developed for this study. The analyses of the standardized index of association, Hardy Weinberg equilibrium, and clonal richness all strongly support asexual reproduction of H. vastatrix in all sampled areas. Similarly, a minimum spanning network tree reinforces the interpretation of clonal reproduction in the sampled H. vastatrix populations. These findings may have profound implications for resistance breeding and management programs against H. vastatrix.
