Of the many subjects with which the curricula of our secondary schools are lo ded, none can be so readily tinted with romantic colours, or so easily illustrated by adventurous tales, and withal be so successfully employed in developing general reasoning ability, as can geography. If Popooatapetl and his brother mountains, and some other of those alluring names from atlases, would only lead the minds of some of our scholars to take the Golden Road to Samarkand', teachers of geography might be forgiven, if' they were seen to smile, when a pupil was heard to murmur the 'unpardonable sin', "I dimly heard the masterts voice." The bored expression, familiar accompaniment to "towns and products geography", should find no place in the class room today. Before a map of the world what imaginings should stir the mind. The islands of the Pacific, palm dotted, coral ringed; the impenetrable jungles of Africa and South America, threaded by mighty rivers; the curious rites and fantastic festivals of the Far East; the lure of Everest, and the call of the great White spaces to scientist and explorer; the ploughing steamer carrying homeward the wanderer, the flashlight signal from the masthead, "All ready to land you!" as the leviathan airship of the future finishes its journey.

This chapter aims to set up the context for novel engagements in notions of sense, knowledge, and meaning via sound. Sound is introduced as material as well as concept, and listening is considered at once as strategy and as expanded method to engage and challenge existing notions of prehension, interpretation, and significance, and to query their rationale. The suggestion is that the sonic offers itself to experience not as meaning but as a challenge to the making of sense, and that consequently through listening we can reach a different sense, that is plural and includes what we did not expect to know. These ideas are developed by listening to Christof Migone’s work HitParade (NewYork) (2012), a group performance which sounds bodies, surfaces, and microphones through their shared rhythm, and to Jana Winderen’s The Wanderer (2015), a field recording of zooplankton and phytoplankton between the North Pole and the Equator.

Abstract The review discusses four recent books and collections that approach in different ways the role of aesthetics in Nietzsche’s work, both as a question of poetic expression and as the shaping of sensibility. They testify to a deepening interest in the processes through which he forged his unique style. This involves micro-analyses of the composition of Nietzsche’s writings from the raw material of his notebooks. It also involves biographical and material contexts, as in Tobias Brucker’s monograph on the composition of The Wanderer and His Shadow. Instead of accepting the dichotomy between a Dichterphilosoph and a philosopher for whom style was merely an instrument for formulating truths, these books display in different ways how in the case of Nietzsche this dichotomy breaks down and gives way to a widened concept of philosophical writing that includes many different genres. Other works by Nietzsche discussed are Zarathustra and The Gay Science, and also Ecce Homo. Nietzsche seduced with his art, but he also saw through the art of seduction as practiced by the artist, opting for a position beyond the conventional split between poetics and philosophy.

This paper examines the definition of the market and its types in terms of size and location. It is the agent in which commodities are exchanged and the processes of sale and purchase at various levels. The market developed during different time periods while malls are recently appeared to invade cities. The research examines the bazaars in Islamic cities and their development and spread in the neighborhoods of cities. These bazaars were formed as part of the city's urban planning, its streets and buildings commensurate with the streets and buildings of the Islamic city. They developed in construction technology and architecture styles during various historical periods. They contain great architectural and construction elements and different sets of decorations and climate treatments, so that they have become unique architectural and construction museums. A special social relationship is formed in bazaars between the seller and the buyer while the wanderer in these traditional markets enjoys the local products and the spirit of the place with its distinctive architectural work. These bazaars have been established near the Friday mosques, where shoppers visit them, and their importance has been proven over the centuries and will remain the ideal place for shopping in Islamic cities.
