Aspergillus is an all-pervasive mold with the potential to cause severe invasive infections in the immunocompromised. A rare cutaneous manifestation of Aspergillus infection, primary cutaneous aspergillosis (PCA), occurs in just 1-5% of invasive aspergillosis cases. Prompt treatment is indicated as PCA may progress to a disseminated state. We present a unique case of an immunocompetent individual diagnosed with PCA two weeks after trauma and subsequent surgery.

Abstract We report a 10-year-old boy with IgA vasculitis (IgAV) with prolonged cutaneous manifestations who was successfully treated with colchicine. At the age of 9, he was diagnosed as having IgAV by typical purpura, abdominal pain, and hematochezia. Initially, his severe gastrointestinal manifestation subsided by prednisolone 60 mg/day and intravenous methylprednisolone pulse therapy. However, his gastrointestinal manifestation was glucocorticoid-dependent and refractory to factor XIII concentrate, intravenous immunoglobulin G, and mycophenolate mofetil. His abdominal pain and hematochezia responded to the combination therapy with dapsone and low dose of prednisolone 5 mg/day and did not relapse even after discontinuation of dapsone. On the other hands, the effect of dapsone on his cutaneous manifestation was dose-dependent. As well dapsone had no glucocorticoid-sparing effect. Approximately 12 months after onset, colchicine treatment was started, which resulted in remission of his chronic cutaneous manifestation. After prednisolone was tapered off, his cutaneous manifestation is currently well-controlled on colchicine 0.5 mg/day without adverse events. He had never complicated by kidney involvements. In conclusion, colchicine treatment exerts a beneficial effect in IgAV patients with prolonged cutaneous manifestation refractory to multiple drugs.

In December 2019, a new emerging virus causing mild-to-severe pneumonia was detected in China. The virus was described as a variant of SARS-CoV and was called SARS-CoV-2, then declared a pandemic by the WHO on 11 March 2020. Millions of people contracted the virus and presented with a symptomatology of variable severity, including upper respiratory tract symptoms, systemic symptoms and diarrhea. We herein report a rare skin presentation in a 33-year-old female that occurred both during COVID-19 infection and after receiving the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

Psoriasis is a chronic multisystem inflammatory disease that affects ~0.1–1.5% of the world population. The classic cutaneous manifestation of psoriasis is scaly erythematous plaques, limited or widely distributed. Moreover, psoriasis could be associated with comorbidities like psoriatic arthritis, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, nephropathy, bowel disease, and brain diseases. In this review, we suggest that psoriasis should be classified as cutaneous psoriasis or systemic psoriasis and propose the classification for distinction. This would help to better understand and manage psoriasis.

The aim of this cross-sectional study, that included 146 polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) patients, was to evaluate the prevalence, severity and pattern of cutaneous manifestation in Jordanian women with PCOS, as well as their correlation with hormonal abnormalities. A thorough complete cutaneous examination, hormonal assays (Luteinizing hormone [LH], follicle stimulating hormone [FSH], prolactin, total testosterone, free testosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate) and pelvic ultrasonography were done. The most common cutaneous features of PCOS were acne vulgaris (75.3%) followed by hirsutism (59.6%) then seborrhea (43.2%) and androgenetic alopecia (42.5%). Patients who had acne vulgaris presented at a younger age than patients who did not. Patients who had androgenetic alopecia and stria were older than patients with no such features. Moreover, all cutaneous manifestations of PCOS, except for acne, were associated with higher body mass index (BMI). Elevated LH:FSH ratio of more than 2:1 was the most common hormonal abnormality, followed by increased LH and total testosterone. Acne, hirsutism, androgenetic alopecia, seborrhea, acanthosis nigricans and skin tags are common cutaneous manifestations among Jordanian patients with PCOS. The existence of one or more of these features, especially in overweight and obese patients, should alert the physician towards the possibility of having PCOS.
