This research aims to describe the type, shape, and function of the cyclical deiksis of Kutai language in Muara Muntai District of East Kalimantan Province. Data analysis techniques are organized in several steps, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion withdrawal. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that the type of cyclical system of Kutai language consists of persona deiksis, place decission, and time decisity. The decyclical form of Kutai language persona is divided into three, namely the first pronomina that refers to oneself, the second pronoun that refers to the speaker to the interlocutor, and the third pronoun that is the person being talked about. A form of place decisis as a gift of form to a place in a language event. The form of decyclical time giving the form of expression time is done in speech. The function of decises is divided into three, namely, the function of decission persona includes as a pointer to belong, as the subject, as an object, is a function that is found in many studies. The decyclical function where use in research leads a lot as a place description indicator. The decyclical function of time in this study shows the description of time.

Chapter 2 builds on the mnemonic significance of the Etna Idea as traced in Chapter 1, partly by relating Pietro Bembo’s activation of literary memory on Etna to the Classical phenomenon of mnemonic topography, or the embedding of the socio-historical, cultural, and literary past into descriptions of material landscape. De Aetna is also viewed in Chapter 2 in relation to the Renaissance tradition of travel writings that combined topographical surveillance with the visitation of antiquity in merging past and present, or in connecting place description with antiquarian recovery. A further memory function of De Aetna lies in its possible dialogue with, and even its direct response to, Petrarch’s celebrated account of his ascent of Mont Ventoux in 1336. The chapter duly visits that account, but as part of a larger attempt to locate Pietro’s Etna adventure within the broader history of mountaineering and the mixed attitudes to mountains from antiquity to the sixteenth century.

This is a study of adjectival modification, that is the use of adjectives and adjectival participles, in the genres of book information and place description. Book information represents a genre with a subtle, covertly persuasive function, while place description is taken to have little or no persuasive force. The study starts out with a quantitative element, establishing lexical densities of the eight texts in the data. This is followed by qualitative analyses of the functions which adjectives have in the genres examined. Answers are sought to these primary questions: 1) What is the role of modifying adjectives in the lexical density of the texts analysed? 2) What discourse functions do these adjectives fulfil in the two genres? The conclusions of the study include: 1) High occurrence of modifying items does not automatically equal nominal style. 2) High occurrence of modifying items is not an automatic sign of high lexical density. 3) The frequent use of modifiers in non-fiction is not limited to persuasion, since adjectives are also frequent in the genre in which the descriptive function is foregrounded.

The off-grid photovoltaic (PV) system with batteries and with the LED light source was constructed and tested in in laboratory conditions. The PV system is used for emergency illumination and it is independent of the electric grid. The PV system is suitable for example in agriculture in store, in horse barn or in outdoors place. Description of the construction and testing is presented in this paper as well as results of the tests. The PV system was self-sufficient during the summer and autumn period till the November 3, 2011. Since November the illumination mode was modified. The illumination intensity was lowered, the discharging speed was decreased.

Since earlier linking phenomenology to space syntax by the research of David Simon, studying place image based on phenomenology explanation is always the common focus between space syntax and phenomenology. With the common focus further studied, some issues such as descriptive pattern on place space, place configuration and place sense will be combined with space syntax theory. In this paper, based on the internal relations between space syntax and architectural phenomenology, the mechanism of place description, place configuration and place self-adaptive mechanisms were analyzed by space syntax, and a method also will be presented to interpret place phenomenon by using space syntax.

The uncertain relationship between studying regions (or places) and focusing on themes (or systematic processes) has characterised geography since the ancient Greeks, with ‘chorography’ being the term employed to define the art of ‘describing the parts of the Earth’. Geography had been taught in British universities since at least the sixteenth century, when students at the University of Oxford were instructed about maps, globes and discoveries. This chapter examines the manifestation of regional studies in British geography during the twentieth century, paying attention to the institutional structures and some of the individuals involved, as well as the publications that appeared. In particular, the chapter discusses place description, regional geography and area studies.
