Abstract We have carried out a detailed study of single-pulse emission from the pulsar J2048−1616 (B2045−16), observed at 732, 1369, and 3100 MHz frequencies using the Parkes 64 m radio telescope. The pulsar possesses three well-resolved emission components, with the central component resembling core emission. The single pulses show the presence of two distinct periodic modulations using fluctuation spectral analysis. About 12% nulls are found to create alternating bunches of nulls and bursts in a quasiperiodic manner with longer periodicities of 83, 28, and 14 rotational periods for simultaneous observations at 732 and 3100 MHz. At 1369 MHz, the quasiperiodic nulling is detected, as well, to modulate across the entire profile both in the core and conal components simultaneously with a fluctuation rate of about 50 rotational periods, and the nulling fraction is estimated to be around 10%. Additionally, the quasiperiodic modulations are significantly dependent on time. In addition to nulling, the pulsar also presents subpulse drifting in the single-pulse sequences with shorter periodicity. The subpulse drifting is presented in the conal components and is absent in the central core emission. The leading component is modulated in longitude with a period of three pulses. The trailing component remains phase stationary within the pulse window but periodically modulates in amplitude with a period of three pulses. Finally, possible physical mechanisms are discussed.

Abstract We study the structural and environmental dependence of star formation on the plane of stellar mass versus central core density (Σ1 kpc) in the nearby universe. We study the central galaxies in the sparse environment and find a characteristic population-averaged Σ1 kpc ∼ 109–109.2 M ⊙ kpc−2, above which quenching is operating. This Σ 1 kpc crit only weakly depends on the stellar mass, suggesting that the mass quenching of the central galaxies is closely related to the processes that operate in the central region rather than over the entire galaxies. For satellites, at a given stellar mass, environment quenching appears to operate in a similar fashion as mass quenching in centrals, also starting from galaxies with high Σ1 kpc to low Σ1 kpc, and Σ 1 kpc crit becomes strongly mass-dependent, in particular in dense regions. This is because (1) more low-mass satellites are quenched by the environmental effects in denser regions and (2) at fixed stellar mass and environment, the environment-quenched satellites have, on average, larger Σ1 kpc, M 1 kpc/M ⋆, and Sérsic index n, and as well as smaller size. These results imply that either some dynamical processes change the structure of the satellites during quenching or the satellites with higher Σ1 kpc are more susceptible to environmental effects.

New for Bulgaria, orbicular rocks among monzodiorite from the NW part of the Plana pluton are presented. They comprise a central core of mafic segregation with gabbro composition (mainly of amphibole and plagioclase), surrounded by pyroxene and plagioclase-rich “shells” or rims, with the outer rim in sharp contact with the monzodiorite matrix.

Greater Wellington Regional Council is responsible for the Regional Land Transport Strategy(RLTS) for the Wellington region, comprising of four cities, numerous towns and governedby eight disparate territorial authorities. The strong central core of Wellington City and thegeographically enforced ‘Y’ formation of the transport corridor have traditionally dominatedthe region’s urban development. To date, transport and land use planning in the region havebeen undertaken independently, when research demonstrates that a combination of land use, transport, financial and regulatory planning mechanisms are required to establish a successfulsustainable transport solution. This research examines six different policy interventionscenarios, and identifies the optimal transport - land use intervention (for growth projectionsto 2026) as the densification of development around key public transport nodes. This policyintervention meets the RLTS vision of providing a balanced and sustainable transport systemthrough the increased adoption of active modes across all trip types of short duration, anincrease in public transport use for longer distance trips and an overall decrease in daily tripsby car.
