A Hypothetical Approach to Cosmic Inflation Incorporating Binary Entropy

The current paper presents an alternative hypothesis for the termination of cosmic inflation based on Huang’s model of spacetime involving the movement of a superfluid through a random resistor network. Using this model, we previously derived a mathematical relationship between the velocity of a reference frame and the probability that a random bond is intact. As an extension of this finding, the permutations of open and closed bonds are now shown to represent potential microstates, thus providing a means of relating motion within the network to binary entropy. Applying this concept to cosmic inflation, termination of this process is an expected consequence of the changes in binary entropy associated with the increasing velocity of expansion.

1D Supergravity FLRW Model of Starobinsky

We study two homogeneous supersymmetric extensions for the f(R) modified gravity model of Starobinsky with the FLRW metric. The actions are defined in terms of a superfield R that contains the FLRW scalar curvature. One model has N = 1 local supersymmetry, and its bosonic sector is the Starobinsky action; the other action has N = 2, its bosonic sector contains, in additional to Starobinsky, a massive scalar field without self-interaction. As expected, the bosonic sectors of these models are consistent with cosmic inflation, as we show by solving numerically the classical dynamics. Inflation is driven by the R2 term during the large curvature regime. In the N = 2 case, the additional scalar field remains in a low energy state during inflation. Further, by means of an additional superfield, we write equivalent tensor-scalar-like actions from which we can give the Hamiltonian formulation.

Cosmic inflation in some viable modified models of f(R) gravity of polynomial-exponential form

In this paper, we present the cosmic inflation scenario in some viable models of the f(R) modified gravity of polynomial-exponential form. Results show that the magnitude of the parameter β in these viable models is at the order of 5.67x10–76 and the time of inflation is at the order of 4.6 x 10–35 s.

Jointly modelling Cosmic Inflation and Dark Energy

Quintessential inflation utilises a single scalar field to account for the observations of both cosmic inflation and dark energy. The requirements for modelling quintessential inflation are described and two explicit successful models are presented in the context of α-attractors and Palatini modified gravity.

Primordial black holes and gravitational waves from the cosmic inflation

Τα τελευταία δεδομένα της Κοσμικής Ακτινοβολίας Υποβάθρου στα μικροκύματα που δόθηκαν από την αποστολή Planck μας έδωσαν καινούριους περιορισμούς στη μελέτη του πληθωρισμού. Επιπλέον η πρόσφατη ανίχνευση από το LIGO/VIRGO άνοιξε ένα καινούριο παράθυρο στην μελέτη του πληθωρισμού. Ειδικότερα η πιθανότητα ότι οι αρχέγονες μέλανες οπές (ΑΜΟ), και ως αποτέλεσμα αυτών ένα ποσοστό της σκοτεινής ύλης (ΣΥ) στο Συμπάν, μπορούν να μελετηθούν μέσω του πληθωρισμού πυροδότησε πολλές ερευνητικές μελέτες τα τελευταία χρόνια. Ακόμα τα μελλοντικά πειράματα για την ανίχνευση των βαρυτικών κυμάτων (ΒΚ), όπως το LISA, αναμένονται να δώσουν σημαντικά αποτελέσματα τα επόμενα χρόνια για την ανίχνευση των ΒΚ, των οποίων η μελέτη μπορεί να γίνει επίσης από πληθωριστικά πρότυπα.Σε αυτήν την εργασία μελετάμε τον κοσμικό πληθωρισμό και ειδικότερα μοντέλα τα όποια είναι εμβαπτισμένα σε θεωρίες υπερβαρύτητας. Ειδικότερα μελετάμε πληθωριστικά μοντέλα που μπορούν να εξηγήσουν την παραγωγή ΑΜΟ και ΒΚ. Τα μοντέλα αυτά πρέπει να έχουν μια ενίσχυση στο ενεργό φάσμα. Για να πετύχουμε αυτή την ενίσχυσή μελετήσαμε τρεις ξεχωριστούς μηχανισμούς. Ο πρώτος αποτελούνταν από ένα ενεργό βαθμωτο δυναμικό με ένα σημείο καμπής, ο δεύτερος από ένα δυναμικό με βήματα, ενώ ο τελευταίος βασίστηκε σε υβριδικά μοντέλα και συγκεκριμένο στο 'καταρράχτη' του δυναμικού.Εφαρμόσαμε αυτές τις τρεις τεχνικές σε θεωρίες υπερβαρυτητας με σκοπό να έχουμε ρεαλιστικά μοντέλα που σέβονται τους περιορισμούς του κοσμικού πληθωρισμού. Τον μηχανισμό με το σημείο καμπής τον εφαρμόσαμε σε θεωρίες no-scale. Ειδικότερα, τροποποιήσαμε υπερδυναμικά που οδηγούν στο βαθμωτό δυναμικό Starobinsky ώστε να προκύψει ένα σημείο καμπής στο ενεργό βαθμωτό δυναμικό, το οποίο θα μπορέσει να εξηγήσει μια ενίσχυσή στο ενεργό φάσμα. Ακόμα εξηγήσαμε την δημιουργία ΑΜΟ και ΒΚ από κατάλληλες τροποποιήσεις στον κινητικό όρο της Λαγκρανζιανης, ή αλλιώς στο δυναμικό Kahler, ώστε να προκύψει ένα σημείο καμπής στο βαθμωτό δυναμικό.Σε επόμενο βήμα μελετήσαμε το μηχανισμό με μορφές τύπου βήματος στο βαθμωτό δυναμικό. Εφαρμόσαμε τον μηχανισμό αυτό σε σύμμορφες υπερβαρυτικες θεωρίες με α-ατρακτορες. Το ενεργό φάσμα που προέκυψε από αυτά τα μοντέλα έχει, εκτός από την ενίσχυση στα μικρά μήκη κύματος, μια επιπλέον ταλαντωτική συμπεριφορά. Για το υβριδικό μοντέλο που προτείνουμε επιβάλαμε διορθώσεις από θεωρίες υπερβαρυτητας με σκοπό να συμφωνούν με τις παρατηρήσεις. Το μοντέλο αυτό μπορεί να εξηγήσει το 100% της ΣΥ με μια κατάλληλη επιλογή παραμέτρων. Επιπλέον, μπορεί να εξηγήσει το σήμα από τα δεδομένα του NANOGrav αλλά σε αυτήν την περίπτωση η αφθονία σε ΣΥ είναι αρκετά μικρότερη. Υπολογίσαμε τα βαθμωτά ενεργά φάσματα, την αφθονία των ΑΜΟ και την ενεργειακή πυκνότητα των ΒΚ για όλα τα προαναφερόμενα πρότυπα. Μελετήσαμε ακόμα το θέμα του fine-tuning των παραμέτρων και πως μειώνεται μέσα από αυτά τα μοντέλα. Όλα τα μοντέλα που παρουσιάζουμε σε αυτήν την εργασία είναι σε πλήρη συμφωνία με τους πληθωριστικούς περιορισμούς.

Unified emergence of energy scales and cosmic inflation

In the quest for unification of the Standard Model with gravity, classical scale invariance can be utilized to dynamically generate the Planck mass MPl. However, the relation of Planck scale physics to the scale of electroweak symmetry breaking μH requires further explanation. In this paper, we propose a model that uses the spontaneous breaking of scale invariance in the scalar sector as a unified origin for dynamical generation of both scales. Using the Gildener-Weinberg approximation, only one scalar acquires a vacuum expectation value of υS ∼ (1016−17) GeV, thus radiatively generating $$ {M}_{\mathrm{P}1}\approx {\beta}_S^{1/2}{\upsilon}_S $$ M P 1 ≈ β S 1 / 2 υ S and μH via the neutrino option with right handed neutrino masses mN = yMυS ∼ 107 GeV. Consequently, active SM neutrinos are given a mass with the inclusion of a type-I seesaw mechanism. Furthermore, we adopt an unbroken Z2 symmetry and a Z2-odd set of right-handed Majorana neutrinos χ that do not take part in the neutrino option and are able to produce the correct dark matter relic abundance (dominantly) via inflaton decay. The model also describes cosmic inflation and the inflationary CMB observables are predicted to interpolate between those of R2 and linear chaotic inflationary model and are thus well within the strongest experimental constraints.

Gauge-field-induced torsion and cosmic inflation

In this paper, inflation in the framework of Einstein–Cartan theory is revisited. Einstein–Cartan theory is a natural extension of the General Relativity with nonvanishing torsion. The connection on Riemann–Cartan space–time is only compatible with the cosmological principal for a particular form of torsion. We also show this form to be compatible with gauge invariance principle for non-Abelian and Abelian gauge fields under a certain deviced coupling procedure. We adopt an Abelian gauge field in the form of “cosmic triad”. The dynamical field equations are obtained and shown to sustain cosmic inflation with a large number of e-folds. We emphasize that at the end of inflation, torsion vanishes and the theory of Einstein–Cartan reduces to the General Relativity with the usual FRW geometry.

TwInflation

The general structure of Hybrid Inflation remains a very well-motivated mechanism for lower-scale cosmic inflation in the face of improving constraints on the tensor-to-scalar ratio. However, as originally modeled, the “waterfall” field in this mechanism gives rise to a hierarchy problem (η−problem) for the inflaton after demanding standard effective field theory (EFT) control. We modify the hybrid mechanism and incorporate a discrete “twin” symmetry, thereby yielding a viable, natural and EFT-controlled model of non-supersymmetric low-scale inflation, “Twinflation”. Analogously to Twin Higgs models, the discrete exchange-symmetry with a “twin” sector reduces quadratic sensitivity in the inflationary potential to ultra-violet physics, at the root of the hierarchy problem. The observed phase of inflation takes place on a hilltop-like potential but without fine-tuning of the initial inflaton position in field-space. We also show that all parameters of the model can take natural values, below any associated EFT-cutoff mass scales and field values, thus ensuring straightforward theoretical control. We discuss the basic phenomenological considerations and constraints, as well as possible future directions.
