Many industries today lead to increased levels of heavy metals such as mercury in water. This research aims to determine the effect of different concentrations of [Hg (NO3) 2] to Asean Sea Bass (L. calcarifer): Gill Histology. In this study, this fishes was treated with 3,16 x 10-2 ppm, 9,99 x 10-2 ppm, 3,16 x 10-1 ppm, and 9,97 x 10-1 ppm. Total fishes used for histological study was 15 fishes. Results of this research showed that increasing the consentrations of the [Hg(NO3)2] will also increase the damage on the stomach structure and fasten the mortality time of the fish. Damage that occurs is hypertrophy and hyperplacia on epitel cells, fuse of secundary lamellae and haemorhage on gill that were exposed to high consentration of [Hg(NO3)2].

This study aimed to know the effect of surfactant on growth, survival rate and gill histology of tilapia fingerling. It carried out on October to November 2014 at Hatchery and Aquaculture Technology Laboratory, Aquaculture Department Agriculture Faculty Malikussaleh University North Aceh. Experimented fish was given different concentrations of detergent. The treatments were A: control, B (detergent 3%), C (detergent 6%), and D (detergent 9%). Sampling data was done every seven days. Experimental design used was Completely Randomized Design with four treatments and three replications then it was continued by BNT test. Observed parameters were growth rate, survival rate, gill histology, feed efficiency, and water quality (temperature and pH). The result showed that different concentrations of detergent (3%, 6%, 9%) affected on growth and survival rate of tilapia fish. Control gave the best growth rate and feed efficiency which were 2,84 grams and 97,36%. While the highest survival rate was obtained in treatment of detergent 3% which was 100%. The water quality parameters during experiment were temperature ranged 26,6-28,1 ᵒC and pH ranged 7,1-7,8.

Ammonia is a common aquatic pollutant and is toxic to fish. The main nitrogenous compound excreted by fish is also ammonia, which may reach toxic concentrations in high-density fish culture, reducing growth and productivity. In this study, changes in gill structure and mucus cell distribution were examined when juvenile Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus, were exposed to chronic and acute concentrations of ammonia. For chronic exposure, the tilapia were exposed to daily increments in ammonia concentration rising from 0 mg L-1 ammonia on Day 0 to 5 mg L-1 by Day 8; the experiment was terminated on Day 9. There were obvious histopathological changes to the gills over this period including hypertrophy and fusion and of the secondary lamellae. The mucus cell number in gill histology sections were observed to increase until Day 6 then decrease thereafter until the termination of the trial. For the acute exposure, juvenile tilapia were exposed to 5 mg L-1 ammonia for 5 hours. Hourly changes to the gills were monitored, with notable changes to gill filaments and an observed increase in the mucus cell number over the duration of the experiment.
