This article presents a study on Television White Spaces (TVWS) to solve the connectivity of the WiFi service for the Colombian National Army in rural areas. The study analyzes regulatory aspects and technical equipment to provide a free internet access solution. Video transmission was experimentally validated, using OFDM with USRP N210 radios. With this preliminary analysis, it was possible to understand how the PHY and MAC layers of the 802.22 Standard work to select the appropriate devices.

Driven by the increasing interest from the research community, this paper presents the current role of software defined radio (SDR) in academic and commercial applications which is helpful for the researchers, professors as well as students working in the area of signal processing and wireless communication. The authors mainly focus on universal software radio peripheral (USRP) N210 which is employed as hardware and GNU Radio as software to implement SDR for various applications that help the researchers to test and analyze various proposed techniques for different systems. Furthermore, this paper presents the implementation of basic analog/digital modulation techniques, and recent research works carried out by using SDR. This paper also presents several limitations and current usage of SDR in commercial and academic applications.

Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) is used to provide position based on satellite constellation. The GNSS Software defined radio (SDR) is a software approach which is more flexible than Hardware receivers. In GNSS SDR, most of the RF frontends are interfaced with a host-Personal Computer (PC). The host-PC based GNSS-SDR systems suffer from computational complexity and latency between IQ samples of GNSS signals. There are several RF front ends available to capture the real time signals. Among all these, USRP RF frontends are flexible for the prototype development. Earlier the host-PC was interfaced with the USRP device for the SDR implementation. In this work the, USRP N210 is interfaced with Zynq SoC device for GNSS SDR applications. This approach will introduce parallelism, which in turn leads to reduction in latency between IQ samples. A custom Ethernet driver to interface the USRP N210 with Zynq SoC device is proposed. The experimental results showcase that the proposed SoC based approach is suitable for GNSS-SDR prototype

Abstract This paper presents first results and test of passive detection of Digisonde signal obtained at the Průhonice station, Czech Republic. Described technique can be used to analyze signals transmitted by the Digisonde and further received by simple loop antenna. The receiving system is based on the software defined radio (SDR USRP N210). The device works as the two channels receiver. This method will be employed to record oblique ionograms at several locations in the Czech Republic forming a simple array for detection of fine structures within ionospheric plasma using common DPS 4D transmitter. Using relatively inexpensive passive detection helps to increase a number of reflection points which leads to a better spatial coverage of the ionosphere sounding. The device represents a complementary measurement for detection of signal transmitted by Digisondes in European sector.

In this paper the performance of a Generalized Frequency Division Multiplexing waveform is evaluated when compared to an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing signal. For the development of the previous waveforms, the GNU radio software and the Software Defined Radio (SDR) equipment USRP N210 are used. Through a spectrum analyzer the power of both waveforms are measured and the Out-of-Band Radiation is analyzed. Then, the results obtained are compared and the advantages and disadvantages of the implementation of GFDM as a waveform within the fifth generation systems are exposed.
