R.J. Vanderbei in his works proves that any continuous on a compact set function has the $\varepsilon $-Lipschitz property which extends conventional Lipschitz continuity. Based on this feature Vanderbei proposed one extension of Piyavskii’s global optimization algorithm to the continuous function case. In this paper we propose one modification of the Vanderbei’s algorithm for a positive $\varepsilon $-constant and another modification for a positive $\varepsilon $-constant and $\varepsilon $ value independent termination condition. We prove proposed methods convergence and perform several computational experiments with designed software for known test functions.

We discuss inverse resonance scattering for the Laplacian on a rotationally symmetric manifold M = ( 0 , ∞ ) × Y whose rotation radius is constant outside some compact interval. The Laplacian on M is unitarily equivalent to a direct sum of one-dimensional Schrödinger operators with compactly supported potentials on the half-line. We prove Asymptotics of counting function of resonances at large radius. The rotation radius is uniquely determined by its eigenvalues and resonances. There exists an algorithm to recover the rotation radius from its eigenvalues and resonances. The proof is based on some non-linear real analytic isomorphism between two Hilbert spaces.

AbstractWe present three different types of bijective functions f : I → I on a compact interval I with finitely many discontinuities where certain iterates of these functions will be continuous. All these examples are strongly related to permutations, in particular to derangements in the first case, and permutations with a certain number of successions (or small ascents) in the second case. All functions of type III form a direct product of a symmetric group with a wreath product. It will be shown that any iterative root F : J → J of the identity of order k on a compact interval J with finitely many discontinuities is conjugate to a function f of type III, i.e., F = φ−1 ∘ f ∘ φ where φ is a continuous, bijective, and increasing mapping between J and [0, n] for some integer n.

We study the asymptotic dynamics of piecewise-contracting maps defined on a compact interval. For maps that are not necessarily injective, but have a finite number of local extrema and discontinuity points, we prove the existence of a decomposition of the support of the asymptotic dynamics into a finite number of minimal components. Each component is either a periodic orbit or a minimal Cantor set and such that the $\unicode[STIX]{x1D714}$ -limit set of (almost) every point in the interval is exactly one of these components. Moreover, we show that each component is the $\unicode[STIX]{x1D714}$ -limit set, or the closure of the orbit, of a one-sided limit of the map at a discontinuity point or at a local extremum.

In this paper, we study Hyers–Ulam and Hyers–Ulam–Rassias stability of nonlinear Caputo–Fabrizio fractional differential equations on a noncompact interval. We extend the corresponding uniqueness and stability results on a compact interval. Two examples are given to illustrate our main results.

AbstractWe study the limiting behavior of the Dirichlet and Neumann eigenvalue counting function of generalized second-order differential operators {\frac{\mathop{}\!d}{\mathop{}\!d\mu}\frac{\mathop{}\!d}{\mathop{}\!dx}}, where μ is a finite atomless Borel measure on some compact interval {[a,b]}. Therefore, we firstly recall the results of the spectral asymptotics for these operators received so far. Afterwards, we make a proposition about the convergence behavior for so-called random V-variable Cantor measures.

Abstract Given a φ-function φ and k ∈ ℕ, we introduce and study the concept of (φ, k)-variation in the sense of Riesz of a real function on a compact interval. We show that a function u :[a, b] → ℝ has a bounded (φ, k)-variation if and only if u(k−1) is absolutely continuous on [a, b]and u(k) belongs to the Orlicz class L φ[a, b]. We also show that the space generated by this class of functions is a Banach space. Our approach simultaneously generalizes the concepts of the Riesz φ-variation, the de la Vallée Poussin second-variation and the Popoviciu kth variation.
