Abstract Ternary intermetallic compound Sm2Ru3Sn5 was synthesized in the system Sm-Ru-Sn by arc-melting and annealing at 600 °C in the field with high content of Sn. Its crystal structure was determined using single crystal X-ray diffraction data (at 240 K). The compound crystallizes in cubic system with space group I 4 ‾ 3m (No. 217), unit cell parameter is a = 9.4606 (8) Å, Z = 4, Pearson symbol c/40. The intermetallic compound Sm2Ru3Sn5 represents an ordered version of the centrosymmetric Ru3Sn7 structure (space group Im 3 ‾ m), in which 16f Sn-filled crystallographic site is split into two 8c sites, each of which is solely occupied of one sort of atoms – Sn or Sm. The occupation of these two 8c sites leads to a reduction of symmetry due to the removal of the inversion center.

The electronic structure of the GdNiGe ternary intermetallic compound was investigated in this work. We carried out the spin-polarized DFT+U calculations of its band structure within generalized gradient approximation accounting for strong electronic correlations in the 4f-shell of gadolinium ions. The antiferromagnetic ordering was reproduced in the calculations, in agreement with experimental data. The calculated equilibrium volume is within 2% accuracy to the experimental crystal structure data, which demonstrates the reliability of the method chosen. The 4f-shell of Gd was demonstrated to substantially contribute to the spectral and magnetic properties of the GdNiGe compounds, whereas other ions were found nonmagnetic, in agreement with experimental data.

We report the synthesis of a new ternary intermetallic compound Nd2Ni0.94Si2.94 that exhibits large magnetocaloric effect in the presence of reentrant spin cluster state formation.

Test of 5052 Al alloy contact reactive brazing has been conducted in the case of special brazing parameters, using Cu foil-Mg power-Cu foil as reaction layer material, the microstructure were analyzed and discussed primarily. The results show that the brazing seam structure consisted of α-Al solid solution and CuAl2 intermetallic compound; the organizations of brazed seam include Al (Mg, Cu) solid solution CuAl2 binary intermetallic compound, complicated ternary intermetallic compound and Al2MgO4.
