Abstract Objectives Due to time-consuming curricular and extracurricular activities, students in dentistry and medicine can profit from efficient learning strategies. One strategy could be the preparation with individually designed educational software that embed different multimedia sources. The aim of this study was to determine the efficiency of such a program compared with an e-book similar to a traditional textbook. Materials and Methods Dentistry students of the Johannes Gutenberg-University of Mainz passed an entrance multiple-choice test on the topic of odontogenic tumors and were then randomized into two groups. Afterward, both groups had 14 days to study on the topic of odontogenic tumors either with a learning software or an e-book. A final exam was then taken and the two groups were compared. Statistical Analysis A least significant difference post hoc analysis comparing the group average values was performed. The level of significance was p <0.05. Results Seventy-one students took part in the study. While students from the first and second clinical semester showed significantly better results and improvements with the e-book, an opposite effect was observed in students from the third and fifth clinical semester with significantly better results and improvements with the software. Conclusion Depending on the clinical experience and knowledge, a multimedia educational software can help students in dentistry to enhance efficiency in the preparation for exams.

Odontomas are benign odontogenic tumors subdivided morphologically into complex or compound odontomas. This paper describes the case of a complex odontoma in a 31-year-old male who complained of a painless swelling in right mandibular region which was diagnosed radiographically as complex odontome. Surgical enucleation of the lesion was done and sent for histopathological examination.

Ameloblastoma and adenomatoid odontogenic tumors are the most common odontogenic neoplasms. However, hybrid variant of the two lesions, Adenoid Ameloblastoma with dentinoid is extremely rare. The lesion comprises of characteristic histopathological features of Ameloblastoma and Adenomatoid odontogenic tumor and also shares certain clinical characteristics with either of the entities. Adenoid Ameloblastoma with dentinoid may be considered at the more aggressive end of spectrum of benign odontogenic neoplasms. Owing to the frequent tendency of lesion to be underdiagnosed, careful histopathological screening of submitted biopsies is warranted. With the increase in number of reported cases in the recent years, it is likely to be included as a separate entity in the upcoming WHO classification. The present systematic review aims at collectively presenting the demographic, clinical, radiographic and histopathological features, treatment performed along with its outcome for all the cases of Adenoid Ameloblastoma with dentinoid reported in scientific literature till date. Keywords: Hybrid Odontogenic Tumor; Adenomatoid Odontogenic Tumor; Adenoameloblastoma; dentinoameloblastoma; Immunohistochemistry

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the relative prevalence, demographic distribution and clinical-pathological characteristics of the maxillary odontogenics cysts and tumors of the jaws in a pathology laboratory located in a university hospital in Northeastern Brazil. Methods: An observational and retrospective study was carried out, in which information was collected on histopathological diagnosis, age, gender and location of the lesion of patients who had been diagnosed with odontogenic cysts or odontogenic tumors between 2013 and 2020.  Results: Among the 546 specimens, 57 were odontogenic cysts and 41 were odontogenic tumors. The most frequent odontogenic cysts were the odontogenic keratocyst 21 (21.4%) and the root cyst 19 (19.4%). The most frequent odontogenic tumors were ameloblastoma 27 (27.6%) and odontoma 6 (6.1%). Conclusion: The data found in this study are possibly associated with the service assistance profile.

Calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumor (CEOT) is a rare benign neoplasia, locally aggressive, that tends to invade bone and adjacent soft tissues. CEOT accounts for less than 1% of all odontogenic tumors. This article reports two cases of CEOT with different mode of presentation clinically, radiologically and histologically.

Squamous odontogenic tumor is a benign epithelial odontogenic tumor that is very unusual in the maxilla & mandible. Mostly, these are present as single lesions, but rarely they can be multifocal lesions. The nature of maxillary lesions is more aggressive. Because of their benign nature, these lesions are frequently treated with conservative surgical techniques that include curettage and surgical enucleation. We will discuss the instance of a 29-year-old lady who was misdiagnosed and treated conservatively by us. This case was examined in the light of current knowledge of the prevalence, genesis, diagnosis, and treatment of squamous odontogenic tumors, as well as a literature review.
