Abstract The aim of this chapter is to provide a compact overview of colorants and their use in coatings including a brief introduction to paint technology and its raw materials. In addition, it will focus on individual colorants by collecting information from the available literature mainly for their use in coatings. Publications on colorants in coatings applications are in many cases standard works that cover the wider aspects of color chemistry and paint technology and are explicitly recommended for a more detailed study of the subject [1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18]. Articles or information on paint formulation using coatings which contain colorants are rare [19]. This formulation expertise is often company property as it is the result of many years of effort built up over very long series of practical “trial-and-error” optimization tests and, more recently, supported by design of experiment and laboratory process automation [20, 21]. Therefore, it is protected by rigorous secrecy agreements. Formulations are in many ways part of a paint manufacturer’s capital, because of their use in automotive coatings, coil coatings, powder coatings, and specialist knowledge is indispensable to ensure their successful industrial use [22]. An important source to learn about the use of pigments in different coating formulations are guidance or starting formulations offered by pigment, additive, and resin manufacturers. These are available upon request from the technical service unit of these companies. Coating formulations can also be found scattered in books on coating and formulation technology [4, 5, 18, 23,24,25,26,27]. This overview can in no way claim to be complete, as the literature and relevant journals in this field are far too extensive. Nevertheless, it remains the author’s hope that the reader will gain a comprehensive insight into the fascinating field of colorants for coatings, including its literature and current research activities and last but not least its scientific attractiveness and industrial relevance.

A virtual laboratory with a network emulator environment using NetKit is one of series of basic network laboratories on basic computer network competencies where students are given practical trial opportunities at low costs and little effort in their implementation. Teaching computer network subjects to be easily understood by students needs an instructional media as a tool in delivering material. This media uses computer virtualization technology, i.e. creating a virtual laboratory, as a means of students in conducting experiments from the material that has been obtained. In virtual laboratories it is possible to implement network topology designs based on actual network topologies. This implementation is used as a testing tool before the network topology is implemented on the actual network. Therefore, errors can be identified first without disturbing the system that is already running. For testing, the students are given training using a basic network design consisting of the implementation of routing tests, firewalls, ftp server implementation and web server. This paper is aimed at describing ways to develop a virtual laboratory with a network emulator environment using NetKit. Moreover, several exercises on network topology implementation that are applied directly to the real world with NetKit are introduced, such as describing laboratory settings, describing the main parts of the lab, illustrating lab instructions, and reporting lab feeds.

The paper dedicates in commemoration of K.A. Bagrinovsky, known scientist, doctor of economic sciences, professor. His thesis was theoretic problems of mathematical modeling and operation of economy. His works in the operations research, the methods making decision, the simulation were received in scientific world. The analysis and the modeling of the mechanisms for scientific and technological development for the production systems of different level in economic hierarchic both centrally controlled economy and making mechanism were conduced by Bagrinovsky in CEMI RAS. The paper presents the investigations (2001–2015) of the analysis and the simulation of the different mechanisms of the innovational activity. It also discusses the methods of the development the complex of the simulation models. In a sense simulation modeling is the science and the art as the selection of the salient parameters for the construction model, intake simplification, the computer experiment and the making decision based on scarcity of accuracy models rest on the heuristic power of men: the practical trial, the intelligence and the intuition. K.A. Bagrinovsky introduced the considerable endowment in the development of this direction for economic and mathematical investigation.The principal object was to show that the relationship between the innovational policy and the technological structure, scientific research sector and the introducing of the progressive production and the organizational structure is obtainable by the models. The character of these relationships may be to use in control of the parameters for the modernization economic. The construction simulation models and the experimental computation analysis were presented the investigations the different mechanisms of the innovational development ant the variants of the estimation have been accomplished on the modeling level by the computer experiment.

In this paper, the View Cast software was used in the optimization of cast-steel rear axle production. The simulation results were adopted in the design of the gating system (including the dimensions of the gating system, the number of the risers and its dimensions) and the iron chills. Practical trial-manufacturing, compared with the numerical simulation, has shown that the new design had effectively eliminated the defect and improved the cast.
