This study was a survey design conducted with the aim of exploring non-English major students' perceptions of video-based tasks in listening classes. The data were collected both quantitatively and qualitatively through two main research tools, namely Likert-scale questionnaires and semi-structured focus group interviews respectively. First, quantitative data was collected through the questionnaires delivered to 86 non-English major students with the use of Google forms to investigate how they perceive video-based tasks in the AEF series in terms of three components, namely Goals, Input, and Procedures. Then, qualitative data, which was gathered from two focus groups of student volunteers, was used to confirm and supplement the findings from the first tool. It was then discovered that the student participants' responses to the video-based tasks in American English File (AEF) series are generally positive. Moreover, students can improve their listening ability, have more motivation in listening lessons as well as better acquire real-life input from the videos.

The present study aimed at evaluating English File series, which is widely used in language classrooms in Iran. The purpose of this study was further to determine the teachers and learners opinions with regard to the practical considerations, layout and design, activities, skills, language type, subject and content, and conclusion of English File series. To this end, 40 teachers and 45 learners majoring in English at private language institutes in Sanandaj were selected as the participants of the study. The teachers filled out Teacher Textbook Evaluation form developed and adopted from Litz (2005) and the learners filled out Student Textbook Evaluation form developed and adopted from Litz (2005). Descriptive statistics, Independent Samples t-test and MANOVA were carried out to interpret the data. The results of Descriptive Statistics revealed that most teachers and learners had the same positive opinions with regard to all factors of the series. The results of Independent Samples t-test revealed that there was a significant difference between the opinions of teachers and learners with regard to the factors of the series altogether. The results of MANOVA revealed that there were significant differences between the opinions of teachers and learners with regard to all factors of the series except the skills. Keywords: Textbook evaluation, English File Series.

In materials science or applied crystallography, X-ray diffraction represents a versatile and useful method with which one can obtain the orientation of single crystals or even the texture of a polycrystalline material. When the investigated sample consists of many phases, or phases of low symmetry, it becomes difficult to measure pole figures from single diffraction peaks. A combined Rietveld–texture analysis with the programMAUDis perfectly suitable to deal with conditions of overlapping diffraction peaks, including those arising from different phases. Even though nearly no alternative toMAUDexists, it is not always easy to use. The input of a file series of two-dimensional diffraction images, for example from a texture measurement, can be time consuming since each individual image must be loaded manually, and only the newest beta version ofMAUDallows semi-automated file input. The new programinput4MAUD, which is presented in this paper, offers a much more efficient way to automate both single and batch file series input intoMAUDas well as the preparation of basic batch refinements withMAUD. input4MAUDis written in Visual C++ and is currently available as a 32-bit statically compiled binary executable file for Windows.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the apical displacement produced by different rotary nickel-titanium instruments, testing the hypothesis that rotary systems with nickel-titanium instruments produce lower mean values of apical displacement than stainless steel hand instruments. A total of 100 maxillary permanent first molars were selected for the study. The mesiobuccal roots were sectioned at the top cervical third and embedded in blocks of self-curing resin. The specimens were randomly divided into 5 groups and the root canals were prepared using the following nickel-titanium instruments: Group 1 - Quantec system 2000 (Analytic Endodontics, Mexico); Group 2 - Pro-File T.0.04 (Dentsply/Maillefer, Switzerland); Group 3 - Pro-File Series 29 T.0.04 (Dentsply Tulsa, Switzerland); Group 4 - Pow-R T.0.02 (Moyco-Union Broach, USA). Specimens in Group 5 were prepared using stainless steel hand instruments Flexofile (Dentsply/Maillefer, Switzerland). All root canals were previously submitted to cervical preparation using Orifice Shaper instruments #1, 2, 3 and 4 (Dentsply/Maillefer, Switzerland). After odontometry, the remaining root canal was shaped employing increasingly larger instruments, so that the final instrument corresponded to Quantec #9, Pro-File Series 29 #6, and #35 for the other groups. Specimens in Groups 1 to 4 were prepared using an electric handpiece with 16:1 reduction at 350 rpm. The specimens in Group 5 were manually prepared. Apical displacement was measured and recorded by means of radiographic superimposition on a specific desk. Statistical analysis (ANOVA) of the results revealed that all groups presented apical displacements. Considering only the nickel-titanium instruments, Group 4 showed the lowest mean value while Groups 2 and 3 produced the highest mean apical displacement values (p<0.001).
