It is of great significance for the government to control the network public opinion in time and maintain social stability to predict the network public opinion in emergency. This paper proposes a novel improvement method to “S-curve” theory in the context of big data and establishes three novel network public opinion prediction models. These models take into account the proliferation trend of initial and follow-up network public opinion over a long period of time when emergencies are formed and the objective environment suddenly changes, based on the information diffusion model conforming to the traditional “S-curve” theory. The novel improvement and establishment allow our model to have more accurate predictions than other scholars’ models that mainly study the first network public opinion in a shorter period of time. And it is more applicable to real social conditions, in line with the public’s cognition of reality, and provides more reference for the government to take preventive and corresponding positive guiding measures in advance. To better establish the model, we obtained the 24-day Weibo data associated with the incident of “Malaysia Airlines” loss of contact from big data for model establishment, public opinion prediction, and comprehensive evaluation. The result innovatively shows that, in addition to the initial public opinion that is worthy of attention, the follow-up public opinion is also noteworthy and proves that our model has more practical value.

Traditional learning curve theory assumes a constant learning rate regardless of the number of units produced. However, a collection of theoretical and empirical evidence indicates that learning rates decrease as more units are produced in some cases. These diminishing learning rates cause traditional learning curves to underestimate required resources, potentially resulting in cost overruns. A diminishing learning rate model, namely Boone’s learning curve, was recently developed to model this phenomenon. This research confirms that Boone’s learning curve systematically reduced error in modeling observed learning curves using production data from 169 Department of Defense end-items. However, high amounts of variability in error reduction precluded concluding the degree to which Boone’s learning curve reduced error on average. This research further justifies the necessity of a diminishing learning rate forecasting model and assesses a potential solution to model diminishing learning rates.

Let Ckn,l be a simple closed k-curves with l elements in Zn and W:=Ckn,l∨⋯∨Ckn,l︷m-times be an m-iterated digital wedges of Ckn,l, and F(Conk(W)) be an alignment of fixed point sets of W. Then, the aim of the paper is devoted to investigating various properties of F(Conk(W)). Furthermore, when proceeding with this work, this paper addresses several unsolved problems. To be specific, we firstly formulate an alignment of fixed point sets of Ckn,l, denoted by F(Conk(Ckn,l)), where l(≥7) is an odd natural number and k≠2n. Secondly, given a digital image (X,k) with X♯=n, we find a certain condition that supports n−1,n−2∈F(Conk(X)). Thirdly, after finding some features of F(Conk(W)), we develop a method of making F(Conk(W)) perfect according to the (even or odd) number l of Ckn,l. Finally, we prove that the perfectness of F(Conk(W)) is equivalent to that of F(Conk(Ckn,l)). This can play an important role in studying fixed point theory and digital curve theory. This paper only deals with k-connected digital images (X,k) such that X♯≥2.
