In the international business communication, English has become a medium of communication. To respond to such a global challenge, it is vital to equip students with Business English courses to prepare them to be more competitive worldwide. Nevertheless, studying Business English is quite problematic to many non-native learners since they have to focus both on the subject matter and the language. The present study is conducted to investigate the perspectives of the students and alumni on the Business English courses at the Business Administration Department, State Polytechnic of Malang. A survey on the second year students and the alumni was conducted. The questionnaires were distributed to elicit their views on the courses, as well as their recommendations. The existing English syllabuses and materials were collected to be overviewed. The findings indicate most students are in favor of the course. Their motivation and interest in the course are good that they make some attempts to support their Business English skills acquisition. The business English competences, like: business presentation, business meeting, business socializing, negotiation, business correspondence, and knowledge, like global business issues are of their benefits to prepare them to work and develop their career in the future. The alumni claim they apply the Business English knowledge and skills in their workplace. However, the level of the application is different following their job position in the workplace. The students’ proposals for the course are that it should be presented in a more fascinating way and business communication skills are more emphasized. Besides, global business materials and vocabulary in business are to be more inserted. The alumni recommend providing more business communication practices and vocabulary enrichment. Showing the formal and informal English usage is also necessary. Besides, character building related to business needs to be inserted.  The Business English syllabuses and materials were in line with the students’ and alumni’s expectation. The content and materials have already covered business knowledge and skills as expected by the stakeholder.

Tujuan tersebut antara lain untuk mengetahui akulturasi bahasa yang ada di dalam masyarakat di kampung aur dan mengetahui Bahasa yang mendominasi di dalam masyarakat kampung aur. Dari hasil analisis data di temukan akulturasi bahasa ditemukan dalam masyarakat Etnis India, Tionghoa dan Batak di Lingkungan IX Kelurahan Aur Kecamatan Medan Maimun dengan persentase yang paling kecil yaitu Bahasa Batak 5,4% dan yang paling besar 13,6% dalam Bahasa Hokkien. Persentasi Akulturasi yang ada tidak terlalu besar dikarenakan mayoritas masyarakat Etnis India, Tionghoa dan Batak di Lingkungan IX Kelurahan Aur Kecamatan Medan Maimun dapat berbahasa Indonesia dengan keterampilan berbahasa 80,4%.  Bahasa Indonesia lebih dominan digunakan oleh masyarakat Lingkungan IX Kelurahan Aur Kecamatan Medan Maimun sebanyak 60%. Sedangkan untuk penggunaan bahasa daerah lebih sedikit. Penggunaan Bahasa India dan Batak sebanayak 14% sedangkan Bahasa Hokkien sebanyak 8%. Kemudian sebanyak 4% penggunaan bahasa lainnya seperti Bahasa Melayu, Bahasa Minang dan lain-lain.

Online learning integrated with face-to-face learning called blended learning is believed to be more useful than online learning or face-to-face learning itself. Schoology as a Learning Management System implemented in blended learning can help teachers to manage class information. Schoology allows students and teachers to share information and provides access to content or administrative features of certain courses. However, despite the benefits of blended learning via schoology mentioned, EFL teachers are still unwilling to exploit blended learning via Schoology in their reading classes. This literature study reviews several papers investigating the benefits and challenges of blended learning via Schoology as a Learning Management System. The purpose of the study is to observe the benefits and the challenges of blended learning via Schoology. The data were collected through primary and secondary resources. It is expected that the findings will boost the EFL teachers’ attention in applying blended learning via Schoology in their classes, and draw the attention of EFL teachers in covering the challenges of blended learning via Schoology to improve students’ learning experiences. Translation shift has turned into an appealing and intriguing topic to depart from. Shift cannot be avoided when it comes to transferring one language into another language. It is caused by the rules that each language has. Translation shifts are divided into 2 kinds which are category shifts and level shift. Category shifts fall into 4 categories which are structure shit, unit shift, class shift, and intra system shift. The objectives of this current study are to 1) discover types of translation shift which appear in the Indonesian and English translation versions of Holy Quran Sura An Nas and 2) find out the most dominant shift occurring in the Indonesian and English translation versions of Holy Quran Sura An Nas.  Qualitative design was employed to arrive at the answers to the quest. This current study has revealed that three kinds of category shift, which are unit shift, class shift, and intra system shift, are found except structure shift.  Holy Quran is divine Scripture. We seek refuge min syarril-waswāsil-khannās from setan yang bersembunyi (the evil of the retreating whisper) – detecting unit shift from adjective clause into prepositional phrase. This sort of investigation is mainly human inquiry to interpret the Source Language (SL) into Target Language (TL) in various versions within the limitation of human imperfection.

This study is completed to implement think-pair-share technique in discussing Know about Business module to enhance students’ ability in reading comprehension. This study was triggered by phenomena found in the classroom where students cannot understand reading texts thoroughly especially when it comes to difficult words and relationship among sentences in the reading texts. The implementation of Know about Business module which has a topic of entrepreneurship is expected to improve students’ learning interest especially in relation with reading skill. This study implements classroom action research methodology. In planning, teacher will prepare for a teaching scenario and learning materials which will be used in the classroom. In implementation, teacher will implement think-pair-share technique in Reading I course subject. During the think phase, teacher will give brainstorming questions so that students will be motivated to think critically. In this phase, students are now allowed to discuss with their friends. During the pair phase, students will gather in some small groups to further discuss the results of their critical thinking in the classroom. The next phase is share and it is when the students express their results of discussion in the classroom. The next phase of classroom action research is observation. In this phase, teacher will observe how the students’ progress is after the implementation of think-pair-share. If students have made progress, teacher will go on to the final phase which is reflection. Results of the research showed that reading comprehension of 1A English department students at Politeknik Negeri Malang improved through the implementation think-pair-share technique using Know about Business module. Students’ reading scores mean improved from 56.8 to 75.7 and all students could pass the reading comprehension passing grade. Results from the questionnaires also illustrated that students showed interests and enthusiasm in doing reading activities using think-pair-share techniques with the use of Know about Business module.

Penelitian ini berawal dari ketertarikan peneliti untuk mengetahui apa sebenarnya makna dibalik pernyataan Edy ini. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deksriptif dengan pendekatan analisis wacana kritis model tiga dimensi Norman Fairclough. Fairclough memusatkan perhatian wacana pada bahasa. Fairclough menggunakan wacana menunjuk pada pemakaian bahasa sebagai praktek sosial, lebih daripada aktivitas individu atau untuk merefleksikan sesuatu. Analisis Norman Fairclough didasarkan pertanyaan besar, bagaimana menghubungkan teks yang mikro dengan konteks masyarakat yang makro. Fairclough berusaha membangun suatu model analisis wacana yang mempunyai kontribusi dalam analisis sosial dan budaya, sehingga ia mengkombinasikan tradisi analisis tekstual dengan konteks masyarakat yang lebih luas. Titik perhatian besar dari Fairclough adalah melihat bahasa sebagai praktik kekuasaan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah, (1) Mendeskripsikan analisis dimensi teks dari wacana pernyataan Edy Rahmayadi, (2) Mendeksripsikan analisis dimensi kewacanaan yang tersebar dan dikonsumsi serta (3) Mendeksripsikan situasi, insitusional, dan sosial yang melatarbelakangi aspek kewacanaan yang terujar. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan penelitian kepustakaan dengan mengumpulkan dan mempelajari data dari literatur, buku-buku serta sumber yang relevan dan mendukung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dalam dimensi teks berupa diksi, tema, serta modalitas yang telah dinarasikan. Praktik kewacanaan muncul atas sebab akibat Edy mengujarkan pernyataan ini serta praktik sosial budaya menunjukkan bahwa Edy Rahmayadi yang mempunyai jabatan ganda meskipun tidak melanggar aturan dalam undang-undang dan partai politik usungan beliau yang tidak mempunyai kepentingan insitusional dalam media Kompas TV.

Amalan pemakanan sihat khususnya yang berpandukan piramid makanan seharusnya diikuti dalam aktiviti pemakanan seharian kita. Melalui panduan piramid makanan ini mengandungi empat jenis atau kumpulan makanan yang disusun mengikut tingkat atau aras berdasarkan jumlah dan kuantiti pemakanan yang disyorkan oleh pihak kesihatan seluruh dunia bagi memenuhi ciri - ciri pemakanan yang seimbang,sihat dan betul. Salah-satunya ialah sayur-sayuran hijau dan buah-buahan yang berada pada aras dua sebagai kumpulan makanan yang kaya dengan zat vitamin, mineral dan serat. Secara implisitnya, imej pemakanan sihat ini turut dipancarkan dalam penciptaan peribahasa contohnya peribahasa Tamil sebagaimana kajian ini dijalankan. Imej pemakanan sihat telah dikesan dalam dapatan data peribahasa Tamil yang dikutip melalui temu bual mendalam terhadap empat orang informan yang berbangsa India. Sejumlah lima peribahasa Tamil telah disaring menggunakan pensampelan bertujuan mempunyai imej pemakanan sihat iaitu sayur-sayuran hijau dan buah-buahan seperti “terung”, “ubi kayu”, “labu air” telah dikesan dalam 25 data peribahasa Tamil yang diperoleh. Oleh itu, kajian ini akan meneliti makna implisit dalam peribahasa ini menggunakan pendekatan semantik inkuisitif oleh Nor HashimahJalaluddin (2014) dengan mengaitkan data, teori, kognitif dan akal budi penutur. Dengan adanya maklumat-maklumat sebegini pengkaji mampu melihat hubungan bahasa, masyarakat dan pemikiran seseorang itu.

Penelitian ini dilatar‐belakangi fenomena perspektif stilistika dan estetika pada metafora. Analisis menunjukkan interpretasi makna Metafora bisa juga dilakukan berdasarkan intertekstualitas antar teks maupun konteks dalam cerita. Temuan yang diperoleh adalah struktur makna Metafora, yaitu: versi Ricoeur (Nominal, Predikatif, dan Kalimatif), versi Wahab (Komparasional, Substitusional, dan Interaksional), dan versi Riffaterre (Displacing, Distorting, dan Creating of Meaning); serta nilai‐nilai filosofi Metafora, yaitu: Etos (etika (ethics) moral, sosial, dan kultural), Logos (logika (logic) kematian / kehidupan), dan Patos (emosional (pathy: simpati dan empati) yang positif, negatif, dan relatif). Dapat disimpulkan Metafora memiliki struktur makna tertentu; dan merupakan citraan nilai‐nilai Moral, Sosial, Kultural, dan Emosional.
